The Alienware AW3926QW pairs a 39-inch, 5120 × 2160 ultrawide OLED with a 330 Hz mode that drops resolution to 2560 × 1080. It is aimed at buyers who want a large, detailed screen for immersive PC gaming and broad desktop workspace—not a compact, glare-proof, or inexpensive display. Its appeal depends on whether your desk and graphics hardware can make good use of 5K2K at 165 Hz, and whether you value the faster mode enough to accept its lower resolution.

What the AW3926QW offers

Dell identifies the AW3926QW as its Alienware 39 5K OLED Gaming Monitor. The central feature is a 21:9, 39-inch OLED panel with two operating modes: native 5120 × 2160 at 165 Hz, or 2560 × 1080 at 330 Hz. The second mode does not make the full-resolution image run at 330 Hz; it trades away substantial detail for a higher refresh ceiling.

Specification AW3926QW
Screen size and aspect ratio 39 inches, 21:9
Native resolution and refresh 5120 × 2160 at 165 Hz
Dual-mode resolution and refresh 2560 × 1080 at 330 Hz
Panel and surface WOLED with RGB-stripe subpixels; glossy surface
Curve and mounting 1500R curve; VESA mounting supported
Video connections DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20; two HDMI 2.1 ports
USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode and up to 90 W power delivery
Other connectivity USB hub and KVM functionality

PC Gamer lists 300 nits full-screen brightness, 1,300 nits peak HDR brightness, a 0.03 ms response time, and DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. Those are the publication’s listed specification figures, not independent measurements made here. Check Dell’s US product listing for current regional specifications, stock, and purchase details; availability and pricing can change.

Which refresh mode makes sense?

Use 5K2K at 165 Hz for detail and immersion

The native mode is the reason to consider this monitor for expansive single-player games, visually rich titles, and detailed desktop work. Rendering 5120 × 2160 places a much heavier workload on a gaming PC than rendering 2560 × 1080, so the refresh rate your system actually delivers will depend on the GPU, game, and settings. Check performance for the specific titles you play rather than assuming the panel’s maximum refresh will be reached at native resolution.

Use 1080p at 330 Hz for fast competitive play

The dual mode raises the maximum refresh rate to 330 Hz, but reduces the image to 2560 × 1080. That can suit a player who prioritizes rapid motion and high frame rates over fine detail, but it is not equivalent to competitive play at 5K2K. TechRadar considered the display overkill for esports despite this mode, and the resolution tradeoff helps explain why: the headline 330 Hz figure applies only when using the lower-resolution mode.

RTINGS describes the monitor as excellent for PC gaming, citing low input lag, sharp motion, and support for common variable-refresh-rate formats. It also reports distracting VRR flicker when frame rates fluctuate in dark scenes. That is a reviewer-observed caveat, not a guarantee that every game, setting, or unit will show the same behavior. If stable dark-scene presentation is a priority, factor that report into your decision.

  • QUALITY ASSURANCE GUARANTEED: The new Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED Gaming Monitor comes with improved OLED reliability and a 3-year premium warranty, including coverage for OLED burn-in, for additional peace of mind.

How it looks for games and everyday work

RTINGS reports deep blacks, vivid colors, and sharp text. The panel uses an RGB-stripe WOLED arrangement without a dedicated white subpixel, a design intended to improve text clarity compared with WOLED layouts that include one. The reviewer found text sharp and the monitor suitable for office use; that does not make it a universal replacement for a matte productivity display, particularly in a bright room.

The glossy coating can make the picture appear clear, but it also reflects ambient light more readily than a matte surface. Position the screen away from windows and strong light sources if reflections would distract you. TechRadar also reports edge dimming in some scenarios; treat that as a review finding rather than a defect established for every unit.

The wide desktop area can make side-by-side windows and a game-plus-chat layout practical. USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and up to 90 W power delivery may support a laptop connection, while KVM functionality can help share peripherals between computers. Before relying on one cable, confirm that your laptop supports video over USB-C and that 90 W meets its charging needs; the usable setup also depends on which peripherals and inputs you connect.

Will it fit your desk and viewing setup?

A 39-inch, 21:9 screen occupies substantial desk width, and the 1500R curve shapes how close and centered you may want to sit. Tom’s Guide notes that the size can be too much for some setups. Measure available width and depth, allow for the stand and cables, and consider whether your normal viewing distance lets you take in the full screen comfortably.

WIRED praised the display size but found that the included stand allowed too much wobble. A VESA-compatible monitor arm is a possible alternative, but confirm the exact mounting pattern and monitor weight in Dell’s current documentation and match them to the arm’s limits before buying. WIRED rated the monitor 8/10, highlighting image quality, size, USB-C connectivity, and pricing relative to competitors while noting the stand concern and 165 Hz native refresh.

RTINGS reports console compatibility, including Dolby Vision support for Xbox Series X|S. Consoles do not support ultrawide output, however, so they show side bars rather than filling the 21:9 screen. Do not buy it expecting a console to use the entire panel as an ultrawide image.

How it differs from the LG 39GX950B-B

RTINGS identifies several practical distinctions between the AW3926QW and the LG 39GX950B-B: the Alienware’s RGB layout improves text clarity relative to the LG’s layout, while the LG’s matte coating reduces glare more effectively and the Alienware’s glossy finish can make images look clearer. These are review findings, not a universal ranking; the better surface depends on your room and preferences.

For a useful comparison, check the current versions and prices of both models, then weigh these factors:

  • Text: compare subpixel layouts and how small text looks in your own work applications.
  • Reflections: choose based on whether glare control or the appearance of a glossy image matters more in your room.
  • Refresh and resolution: compare native and any alternate modes, including the resolution at which each refresh figure applies.
  • System demands: account for the GPU performance required by each model’s resolution and the games you play.
  • Desk and ergonomics: consider footprint, curve, viewing distance, and stand or arm requirements.
  • Connections and ownership: compare USB-C charging, other ports, warranty terms, and current regional pricing.

TechRadar described the LG as the closest 39-inch 5K2K OLED competitor in its 2026 review. Its review snapshot listed the Alienware at $1,099 in the US and £999 in the UK, and the LG at $1,799; those are dated review prices, not a reliable statement of today’s price difference. Check current retailer listings and regional warranty terms before deciding.

Who should buy the AW3926QW?

It makes sense if

  • You want a large OLED for immersive PC gaming and value 5K2K detail at up to 165 Hz.
  • Your graphics hardware and the games you play can make worthwhile use of its native resolution.
  • You have enough desk space and a viewing position that suits a 39-inch curved ultrawide.
  • You want a mixed work-and-gaming screen with sharp text, USB-C video and charging, and KVM functionality.

Consider another display if

  • Your main priority is competitive gaming at native resolution; the 330 Hz mode works at 2560 × 1080 instead.
  • Your desk is compact or you need strong reflection rejection in a bright room.
  • VRR flicker in dark scenes would be unacceptable, given the issue RTINGS reports.
  • You need a lower-cost monitor; the review prices are historical snapshots, so compare current offers rather than relying on launch-era figures.

PC Gamer reported launch/review prices of $1,099 in the US and £999 in the UK, while TechRadar listed the same amounts at its 2026-09-08 review.
