The Alienware AW3926QW is a 38.9-inch curved OLED gaming monitor with two distinct operating modes: 5120 × 2160 at up to 165 Hz, or 2560 × 1080 at up to 330 Hz. Its immersive, sharp image and gaming performance are the main attractions; its size and the resolution drop in 330 Hz mode are the main trade-offs. Whether it makes sense for you depends on desk fit, preferred games, compatible connections and the current price in your region.

What the AW3926QW offers

Dell’s US product listing identifies a 38.9-inch curved OLED panel. Its two headline refresh modes pair different resolutions, so the resolution and refresh-rate maximums do not apply at the same time.

Mode Resolution Maximum refresh rate
High resolution 5120 × 2160 165 Hz
High refresh 2560 × 1080 330 Hz

Dell also lists a 0.03 ms GTG response time in Extreme mode, plus AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and VESA AdaptiveSync support. The response-time figure is Dell’s stated specification for that mode, not a promise of identical results in every setting or use case.

Pros: where it stands out

A sharp, expansive OLED image

The 5120 × 2160 mode gives this wide 38.9-inch screen substantially more resolution than the 2560 × 1080 high-refresh mode. Tom’s Guide and TechSpot praise the monitor’s vivid, sharp and immersive image, as well as its gaming experience (Tom’s Guide review; TechSpot review). That combination makes the high-resolution mode the natural choice when fine detail and a broad view matter more than the maximum refresh rate.

A fast mode for competitive play

The 330 Hz option offers a higher refresh ceiling for games where responsiveness matters, but it runs at 2560 × 1080 rather than 5120 × 2160. TechSpot discusses the faster esports mode; consider it a separate setting for speed-focused play, not a way to get 330 Hz at the monitor’s full resolution.

Useful connections and USB-C power

Dell lists two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort 2.1 input, USB-A downstream ports, a USB-B upstream connection, and USB-C upstream and downstream connections. The upstream USB-C supports DisplayPort 2.1 Alt Mode and power delivery up to 90 W; the downstream USB-C supports charging up to 15 W. Check the source device’s ports and supported output modes before choosing a connection: having a port on the monitor alone does not establish that a PC or console can drive the mode you want.

Cons and practical trade-offs

Its size demands space

At 38.9 inches diagonally, the AW3926QW is a substantial display. Tom’s Guide notes that its size may be too much for some setups. Measure the usable desk width and depth, your viewing distance, and the space taken by the stand before buying; if you plan to use an arm, verify that it is compatible with the monitor and your setup.

The fastest mode gives up resolution

Moving from 5120 × 2160 at 165 Hz to 2560 × 1080 at 330 Hz is a significant reduction in resolution. Decide whether you are likely to use the faster mode often enough to value that trade-off. If your priority is detailed, wide-screen play, the 165 Hz mode is the relevant specification; if maximum refresh is the priority, plan around the lower-resolution mode.

Price and a reported issue need current confirmation

Prices vary by region and over time. A Tom’s Guide search-result excerpt showed $1,099 in its review context, but that is not a current universal price; check the seller and local Dell listing at the time you shop. Separately, PC Gamer published a headline saying Alienware was working on a fix, but the available report details do not establish which issue it concerns or whether a fix is now available. Do not assume the monitor has either a specific unresolved fault or a confirmed fix without checking the full report and a current manufacturer update.

Brightness figures reported by reviewers

PC Gamer reports 300 nits full-screen brightness, 1,300 nits peak HDR brightness and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. Treat the brightness figures as values reported by that review, not as independently verified measurements here. Peak HDR brightness and full-screen brightness describe different conditions, so the peak figure should not be read as brightness across the entire panel.

Who should consider the AW3926QW?

  • A good fit: You want a large curved OLED, value a sharp 5120 × 2160 image, and have room to sit at a comfortable viewing distance.
  • Worth considering: You play both detail-rich and competitive games and would use the 165 Hz full-resolution and 330 Hz lower-resolution modes for different purposes.
  • Look carefully at the trade-offs: Your desk is compact, you expect the highest refresh rate and full resolution simultaneously, or the current regional price does not fit your budget.

There is not enough directly comparable evidence here to rank the AW3926QW against other premium ultrawide OLED monitors. When comparing alternatives, check resolution at each refresh rate, panel technology and coating, screen size and curve, USB-C power delivery, and the current local price and warranty.
