The game expands the squad to four players and is designed around coordinating class abilities. The official Steam description puts it plainly: “Coordinate with your fireteam, leverage each class’s unique abilities, and adapt on the fly as encounters escalate from tense standoffs to all-out war.” The official Steam description does not publish a best squad formula, so treat composition as a coordination problem rather than a solved ranking.

Agree on roles before a mission
Before launching, make sure everyone knows which class abilities they plan to bring and how they intend to use them. The official materials confirm five unique classes, major upgrades, and a customizable Specialist endgame class, but do not establish that a particular class combination is strongest. Pick a lineup your group can use deliberately, then adjust if it is not helping you handle the encounters you face.
Coordinate ability use instead of duplicating effort

How to think about weapon choices and customization
The official site describes weapon customization through fire modes, Augments, and unique Weapon Traits; Steam also mentions pyro and electric ammo. These are real in-game systems, but the official sources do not provide a tested damage chart or best-in-slot weapon list. Use them to shape a weapon to your playstyle rather than assuming a particular combination is objectively strongest.

Patch-sensitive weapon and perk advice
Daybreak’s September 29, 2026 Hotfix #3 notes documented a fix for a replication bug that caused weapons not to deal damage, as well as an issue with attachments and perks granting incorrect starting ammo. The same notes flagged a Zvezda Plasma Rifle issue: rapidly activating fire could overheat the EVI-87 without firing. They also said Jackpot had been temporarily changed so it had no effect on heat weapons while longer-term changes were being tested.
Those notes describe the state recorded on September 29, not necessarily the current behavior on October 11, 2026. Before building around the Zvezda, heat weapons, attachments, starting ammo, or Jackpot, check the official Steam announcements for any later changes. The announcements also include a September 17 update covering performance, ammo-box and med-kit pickup issues, mission progression blockers, and Horde Mode rewards after wave 50—another reason to date-stamp patch-dependent advice.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 released globally on August 25, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
