The exact year and category behind the headline “Al Tamimi collects top tax honour at IFLR/ITR Middle East Awards” cannot be confirmed from the available award records. Al Tamimi’s own awards page does document four wins at the 2025 ITR Middle East Tax Awards, but those results should not be treated as the unidentified honour in the headline.
What Al Tamimi won in 2025
Al Tamimi’s awards listing names four 2025 ITR Middle East Tax Awards. Three recognize a firm or practice; the fourth recognizes an individual. The listing identifies Shiraz Khan as the recipient of the individual award.
| Award category | Recipient or scope |
|---|---|
| Tax Policy Middle East Firm of the Year | Al Tamimi & Company |
| United Arab Emirates Tax Firm of the Year | Al Tamimi & Company |
| Saudi Arabia Tax Disputes Firm of the Year | Al Tamimi & Company |
| Middle East Tax Disputes Practice Leader of the Year | Shiraz Khan |
The categories distinguish regional tax policy work, country-specific tax services and disputes, and individual leadership. They are not interchangeable, and the 2025 results do not establish the year or category meant by the headline.
What the award-programme sources establish
IFLR said its Middle East Awards partnered with ITR to introduce 19 categories covering the tax industry. That figure describes the programme’s category count, not the size of the tax market or a ranking of firms. The IFLR page for the 2025 programme listed June 30 as the submission deadline, September 3 for the shortlist announcement, and October 22 for the ceremony; those dates are historical. IFLR’s winners hub says the 2025 event took place in Dubai on October 22, with detailed winners’ information available to subscribers.
#1 Best Overall
The available IFLR article about the 2024 awards, dated August 28, 2024, reports a shortlist and says winners would be announced at a Dubai ceremony on October 22, 2024. It does not confirm who won. A shortlist is not evidence of a win.
Al Tamimi’s tax practice
Al Tamimi says its tax practice operates across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Jordan, Egypt and Morocco. The firm lists services including M&A tax structuring and due diligence, corporate tax, zakat, VAT, withholding tax, international tax structuring, customs duties, transfer pricing and tax litigation. It also says it helps governments develop and draft tax legislation.

How to read the headline accurately
- Year: The headline does not specify one. The 2025 awards are a separately documented result, not a confirmed match.
- Category: “Top tax honour” does not identify whether the recognition was for a firm, an individual or another category.
- Awarding programme: The 2025 wins are listed as ITR Middle East Tax Awards; IFLR describes its Middle East Awards programme as partnering with ITR on tax categories.
- Evidence: Al Tamimi’s official listing supports its 2025 results. The IFLR 2024 source supports shortlist and ceremony timing only, not a 2024 win.
