But “AirPods Pro 2” can mean a Lightning- or USB-C-case version, and Apple now lists a newer AirPods Pro generation. Check the case and your device requirements before deciding whether to buy or upgrade.
Which AirPods Pro 2 version is this review about?
This review focuses on AirPods Pro 2 with the MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C), the version covered by Apple’s cited technical specifications. Apple also sold the second-generation earbuds with a Lightning charging case, so the generation name alone does not identify the connector. Confirm the case in the product listing before buying, particularly if USB-C is important to your setup. Apple’s USB-C version specifications identify the exact case; its product page is a place to verify which version is being offered.

Apple describes the AirPods Pro 2 feature set as including active noise cancellation, Adaptive Audio, Transparency mode and Conversation Awareness. These modes make the earbuds more adaptable to changing surroundings, but feature availability and hardware details should not be assumed identical across every case version.

What do the listening features offer?
Noise control and awareness
Active Noise Cancellation is designed to reduce outside sound, while Transparency mode lets environmental audio through. Adaptive Audio adjusts noise control to the listening environment, and Conversation Awareness responds when you begin speaking by lowering audio and helping voices come through. These are the headline features Apple identifies for AirPods Pro 2; they do not by themselves establish how well the earbuds perform against alternatives in a particular commute, office or call.

Hearing Test and Hearing Aid
Apple supports Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features on AirPods Pro 2 with the latest firmware when paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 or later. Apple says the features are intended for people aged 18 and older, and availability can depend on device and region. Check Apple’s specifications and support information for applicable conditions.
Apple’s October 2024 Hearing Health Features white paper characterizes its Hearing Test as comparable to industry-standard clinic-based audiometry. That is Apple’s description, not an independent validation presented here. Apple also cautions that the Hearing Test is not a substitute for medical advice if you have concerns about your hearing.

How strong are sound, comfort, ANC and battery life?
There is independent review coverage: SoundGuys published an AirPods Pro 2 review that its page notes was updated May 2, 2025, including discussion of hearing-aid functionality. That is useful as an attributed reviewer’s assessment, but it should not be mistaken for a current, directly comparable set of measurements across sound, noise cancellation, calls, fit and battery life.
No firsthand testing or consistent cross-product measurement set is established here for those dimensions. Fit and comfort are especially personal, and battery figures are meaningful only alongside the test method and conditions. Treat detailed performance judgments as belonging to the reviewer who performed the tests rather than as a universal guarantee.

Should an existing owner upgrade?
If you already own AirPods Pro 2, the practical reason to change is likely a specific need—such as wanting a USB-C charging case when your current case uses Lightning, or seeking features in Apple’s newer AirPods Pro generation. The earbuds already include the key noise-control and awareness features described above. A connector change alone may not justify replacing a working pair unless it solves a real charging or compatibility inconvenience.

- Apple-device users who want Apple’s noise-control modes and can confirm that their iPhone or iPad supports the features they intend to use.
