Apple lists AirPods 5 with an H2 headphone chip, IP57 dust, sweat and water resistance, and earbuds weighing 4.3 g apiece. Battery life depends on which case configuration you choose: Apple’s estimates range from up to 4 to 7 hours per charge, depending on case and noise-control setting.

These are specifications published by Apple, not independent measurements. Apple describes the product as dust, sweat and water resistant (IP57); its specification page does not establish particular exposure limits or usage conditions.
Battery life: compare the two case configurations
Apple’s battery figures are estimates expressed as “up to” claims. The per-charge figure changes with both the case configuration and whether ANC is enabled. Apple publishes case-inclusive totals for ANC enabled; it does not list a case-inclusive total with noise control off.

What changes with the Wireless Charging Case?
The case configuration affects charging options, case weight, and some controls—not just the battery estimates.

The earbuds are listed at the same 4.3 g each, while Apple gives the two cases different weights. These are case options for AirPods 5, not separate earbud generations. Apple Support also lists the Wireless Charging Case’s year introduced as 2026: AirPods 5 Wireless Charging Case technical specifications.

Audio, microphones and sensors
Apple lists a custom high-excursion driver and custom high dynamic range amplifier. Listening and call-related features include:
- Active Noise Cancellation, Adaptive Audio and Transparency
- Conversation Awareness and Voice Isolation
- Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking and Adaptive EQ
- Studio-quality audio recording
- A pressure-equalizing vent system
The listed microphones and sensors are dual beamforming microphones, an inward-facing microphone, an optical in-ear sensor, motion-detecting and speech-detecting accelerometers, and a force sensor.

Controls and Siri features
Apple lists these press controls:
- Press once to play or pause media, answer a call, or mute or unmute.
- Press twice to end a call or skip forward.
- Press three times to skip back.
- Press and hold to change listening modes.
On AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case, Apple also lists volume control by swiping the force sensor. Other listed features include Siri voice control, Siri Interactions using head gestures, and a camera remote function.

AirPods 5 use Bluetooth 5.3. Apple says they can function as Bluetooth headphones with Apple devices running earlier software and with non-Apple devices, though functionality may be limited. The standard case charges through USB-C; the Wireless Charging Case also supports an Apple Watch charger or a Qi-certified charger.
