Short answer: Soul Binding improves an item’s stats and can be moved with other progression, but the exact materials and prices depend on the operation and item. NCSOFT’s Season 2 announcement says breakthrough, enhancement stages, and Soul Binding effects can transfer to another item, with a maximum of six transfers for each piece. A separate NCSOFT announcement requires 100% Soul Binding and two Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation items for its additional-effect operation.
Most action-by-action prices and the detailed behavior of extra stats come from an independent mechanics guide rather than an official rulebook. Treat those figures as current-client guidance, not permanent global rules. Before spending, read the item tooltip, the Soul Binding panel, and the transfer preview in your regional client.
What Soul Binding does in Aion 2
Soul Binding is the gear-stat system that changes the values and, in some cases, the types of stats on an equipment item. The system is separate from the sharing label an item receives after you claim it. A piece can therefore have Soul Binding progress while also being character bound, class bound, or server bound; those terms answer different questions.

Transfer includes Soul Binding effects
NCSOFT’s January 21, 2026 Season 2 announcement says equipment transfer moves breakthrough stages, enhancement stages, and Soul Binding effects to another item. It also sets a limit of six transfers for each piece. That is the clearest official limit currently described for transfer.
The announcement does not explain every sub-effect, slot, or stat value that moves. It also does not establish a universal limit on how many times you may use the individual Bind, Sync, or Reset operations. Do not treat the six-transfer limit as a six-action limit for Soul Binding itself.
Additional effects require a fully bound item
In its February 11, 2026 announcement, NCSOFT says players can apply additional Soul Binding effects when equipment has reached 100% Soul Binding. The announced material requirement is two Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation items. This is a specific additional-effect operation, not proof that every Soul Binding action uses Revelation stones.

NCSOFT’s May 27, 2026 announcement names Philosopher’s Stone: Power (Bound) as a material that enables Soul Binding for Genesis/Nemesis Dragon Lord equipment and other gear. The announcement does not provide a complete item-by-item map of every stone requirement. Check the item’s current tooltip before buying or consuming a stone.

Operations in the Soul Binding tab
An independent Aion 2 mechanics guide describes three core operations: Bind, Sync, and Reset. Its figures are useful for planning, but they are not official universal prices and may differ by region, item, or later patch.

The guide’s “30,000 Kinah” Bind figure should not be read as a guaranteed lifetime total. A third-party item database displays item-specific costs that rise by step; its example begins at 30,000 Kinah and 10 Soul Codex for step one. That database also cautions that transfer behavior beyond donor eligibility and costs is unverified. Your live item panel is the authoritative price for the action you are about to confirm.
How to choose between Bind, Sync, and Reset
Choose Bind when the stat types are already right
Bind improves the values of existing stats rather than replacing the stat categories. It is the least disruptive option when the item already has the attributes your build needs. Because the guide describes the value increase as random, budget for multiple attempts and stop when the marginal gain no longer justifies the Kinah and Soul Codex.
Choose Sync when one stat is the problem
Sync changes one stat into a different one. That narrower scope protects the other stats from a full reroll, but it consumes a Sync Stone or same-grade gear under the guide’s description. Confirm the offered replacement and the exact required material in the confirmation window; do not assume any stone works for every grade.

Choose Reset only for a complete rebuild
Reset rerolls all listed stats with Soul Codex: Reset. It is appropriate when several stats are wrong or when the item is being rebuilt for a different role. It is a poor choice if only one stat needs improvement, because a favorable stat can disappear along with the unfavorable ones.
Plan the extra slot as a long-term investment
The guide says every base slot must be maxed before an extra slot can be unlocked. Its listed price is 1,000,000 Kinah plus two Philosopher’s Stones. NCSOFT’s official announcement confirms a two-Revelation-stone requirement for an additional-effect operation at 100% Soul Binding, but it does not state that every extra-slot action uses exactly the same stones. Use the material name displayed for your item rather than relying on a general rule.
What Soul Binding costs
There is no single official “Soul Binding cost.” The cost depends on the operation, the item’s step, the stone type, and possibly the regional client or current patch.

- Bind: the independent guide lists 30,000 Kinah and Soul Codex for each action. The item database’s step-one example lists 30,000 Kinah and 10 Soul Codex, showing why a flat total can be misleading.
- Sync: the guide specifies a Sync Stone or same-grade gear; it does not establish one universal Kinah price for every item.
- Reset: the guide specifies Soul Codex: Reset. Check the live panel for any accompanying currency or quantity.
- Additional effect or extra slot: the guide lists 1,000,000 Kinah and two Philosopher’s Stones for an extra slot, while NCSOFT’s February announcement specifically requires two Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation at 100% Soul Binding for its announced additional-effect action.
- Special gear: NCSOFT identifies Philosopher’s Stone: Power (Bound) for Genesis/Nemesis Dragon Lord equipment and other gear in its May update. That does not establish the requirement for every equipment family.
Before confirming an action, record the displayed Kinah, stone name, and Soul Codex quantity. If the item tooltip and a guide disagree, the tooltip and confirmation screen describe the transaction your client will actually perform.
How transfer works—and what may not transfer
Use the official six-transfer limit for planning
Season 2 equipment transfer carries breakthrough, enhancement, and Soul Binding effects, and each item may be transferred up to six times according to NCSOFT. Count transfers on the item itself when planning upgrades; a future donor may have fewer remaining opportunities than a newly obtained piece.
Inspect the preview for extra-stat behavior
The independent Xtropolis guide says base Soul Binding stats transfer at their bound values, but the extra stat unlocked with Philosopher’s Stones does not transfer. NCSOFT’s announcement confirms that Soul Binding effects transfer generally but does not state this exception. Consequently, treat the distinction as third-party guidance, not an official guarantee.
Open the transfer interface and inspect the before-and-after preview. Verify which stat lines, values, enhancement stages, and breakthrough stages appear on the destination item. If an extra Philosopher’s Stone stat is absent from the destination preview, do not confirm unless that loss is intentional.

The available evidence does not provide a complete list of ineligible equipment. The guide describes item-specific stone requirements and variable slot behavior, while the item database says donor eligibility and some transfer costs are unverified. Eligibility must therefore be checked on the actual source and destination items, not inferred from their broad equipment category.

Step-by-step: safely improving an item
- Inspect the item. Open its Soul Binding tab and note the current stats, completion percentage, slots, required stone type, and displayed Kinah and Codex costs.
- Decide whether to preserve or replace stats. Select Bind for stronger values on the same stats, Sync for one unwanted stat, or Reset for a complete reroll.
- Check the material grade. Confirm whether the panel asks for Soul Codex, Soul Codex: Reset, a Sync Stone, same-grade gear, Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation, or Philosopher’s Stone: Power (Bound).
- Compare the horizon of the gear. If you expect to transfer the item soon, avoid spending on an effect that the transfer preview shows will be lost. If it is a long-term item, maxing base slots may make the extra-slot cost worthwhile.
- Confirm the live price. Third-party figures are planning references only. Use the amount shown by your regional client at the moment of confirmation.
- Review transfer before committing. If the item may move later, open the transfer preview and verify every stat line and progression stage that will arrive on the destination.
- Keep a record of transfers. Since NCSOFT limits each piece to six transfers, track completed moves so you do not spend resources assuming unlimited future transfers.
“Bound” can mean two different systems
Players often use “bound” for both Soul Binding and item-sharing restrictions. They should not be treated as synonyms.
Soul Binding
Soul Binding describes stat and progression changes made through the gear system. It affects how the item is enhanced, rerolled, or transferred. The independent guide’s descriptions of Bind, Sync, Reset, and extra slots refer to this system.
Character bound
NCSOFT support defines a character-bound claimed item as one that cannot be shared with other characters after claiming it.

Class bound
A class-bound claimed item can be shared only with characters of the same class, according to the support FAQ.
Server bound
A server-bound claimed item can be shared with all characters created on that server, as defined by NCSOFT support.
Those three definitions concern post-claim sharing rules for labeled items, including Founder’s Pack items. They do not automatically tell you whether a Soul Binding effect can be applied, rerolled, or transferred. Check both the sharing label and the Soul Binding panel.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Confusing the six-transfer cap with an action cap: NCSOFT gives a six-transfer limit per piece, not a universal six-use limit for Bind, Sync, or Reset.
- Using the wrong Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation and Power (Bound) have different documented contexts. Match the stone name shown by the item.
- Assuming an extra stat transfers: The exception is reported by a third-party guide, so verify it in the live preview before paying.
- Applying a flat cost to every item: Item-database examples show step-based costs. Treat 30,000 Kinah as an example or guide-listed action price, not a universal final total.
- Resetting to fix one stat: Reset replaces all listed stats; Sync is the narrower option when available.
- Reading “character bound” as “Soul Bound”: One is a sharing restriction and the other is a gear-stat system.
- Assuming regional parity: Announcements and guides may not reflect your client’s current item eligibility or prices. Check the live tooltip and confirmation dialog.
Practical decision checklist
- Is the item already using the stat types your build requires?
- Are you changing one stat or all stats?
- Which exact material name does the panel request?
- Has the item reached 100% Soul Binding for the additional-effect operation?
- Are all base slots maxed before attempting an extra slot?
- How many transfers has this piece already used out of the official six?
- Does the transfer preview retain every stat you are paying to create?
- Does the item’s character, class, or server-bound label prevent the sharing you intend?
Bottom line for spending materials
Use official rules for the framework: Soul Binding effects can transfer with equipment progression, each piece has up to six transfers, and NCSOFT’s announced additional-effect operation requires 100% Soul Binding plus two Revelation stones. Use the independent guide and database only as estimates for Bind, Sync, Reset, extra-slot, and step-based costs. The safest workflow is to inspect the current item tooltip, choose the operation whose scope matches your goal, and read the transfer preview before confirming any expensive effect.
