AIB means add-in board. In graphics-card terminology, it refers to the graphics board or card installed in a computer. The GPU is the graphics-processing chip mounted on that board. They are related parts of the same product, not interchangeable names.
What does AIB mean in GPU technology?
AIB is short for add-in board. In this context, it means the graphics board or graphics card added to a computer. A board can be installed by a computer maker during manufacturing, by a reseller during distribution, or by an end user later, according to an SEC-filed exhibit.
The term describes the board assembly, not a GPU model or a separate GPU architecture.

The GPU is the processing chip on the graphics board. The AIB is the board or card that carries it. Jon Peddie Research’s 2014 terminology page also distinguishes the card from the GPU chip on it; its historical market context is not a current market statistic.

What is an AIB partner?
An AIB partner, also called a board partner, develops graphics-card products using a GPU supplier’s chips. AMD describes companies on its Global & System Builder Partners page as using Radeon GPUs to develop graphics-card products. Examples listed there include ASUS, ASRock, GIGABYTE, MSI, PowerColor, Sapphire, and XFX.
A partner listing establishes that these companies have a role in developing graphics-card products; it does not establish that each partner designs every component of every card. AMD also notes that partner availability varies by region.

Does an AIB card differ from another card with the same GPU?
The AIB and GPU terms alone do not tell you how two cards compare. Cards using the same GPU may be separate board products, but the definitions and partner listings do not establish their performance, cooling, dimensions, noise, warranty, or price. Those details depend on the specific models and should be checked against their product specifications and your intended use.

If you are shopping for a desktop graphics card, compare the exact card’s performance for your workload, physical dimensions against your case clearance, power requirements against your power supply, display outputs, and cooling and noise characteristics. Check current price and availability for your region; manufacturer partner availability can vary.
