Outlit is pitching businesses on AI agents that would continuously monitor customer-related data, build individual profiles and recommend actions aimed at upselling, retention and reactivating lost leads. A Gizmodo report published October 15, 2026, describes a proposal to combine company records—such as call logs—with public or externally available information, including social-media posts, LinkedIn activity and personal details. The report does not establish that Outlit is already watching every customer, nor does it provide independent evidence that this level of surveillance improves business results.
What Outlit is proposing
Outlit’s concept is an always-on customer-intelligence service. Instead of reviewing a customer record only when a salesperson or support worker needs it, an AI agent would continuously examine signals connected with that person and update a profile over time. The company’s website is summarized as saying that it “continuously monitors the customers.”
The intended business use is straightforward: identify a reason to contact someone, predict when an account may be at risk, find an opportunity to sell more, or revive a lead that has gone quiet. The proposed output is not merely a dashboard of raw events. It is a person-level intelligence file and an action plan for what a company should do next.

The report describes a combination of internal business records and external information. Potential inputs include:

- Messages, meetings or activity captured in a company’s customer-management systems.
- LinkedIn activity and other social-media posts.
- Details about a customer’s life gathered from available sources.
Combining those sources changes the privacy question. A single public post may reveal little, while a continuously updated record that connects posts with calls, purchase history and personal circumstances can produce a detailed picture of an identifiable individual. The report does not specify a complete list of supported platforms, the retention period for each data type, or which information is collected with consent.
How the proposed monitoring would work
- Collect signals. The agent would ingest customer interactions held by the business and relevant information found outside the company.
- Assemble a profile. Those events would be combined into an individual customer record intended to show interests, circumstances, engagement and possible risk of leaving.
- Interpret changes. The system would look for signals that could indicate an upsell, a retention problem or a previously lost lead becoming worth contacting again.
- Recommend an action. It would produce an action plan for a sales, marketing or account team rather than leaving staff to interpret every data point themselves.
- Continue monitoring. New calls, interactions and online activity could keep changing the profile, making the process ongoing rather than a one-time analysis.
Founder Josh Earle told Futurism, in quotations reported by Gizmodo, that “Every company will soon assign an AI agent to every customer to watch their every move.” That is a prediction and company vision, not evidence that the model is already standard practice or broadly deployed.

Is Outlit watching every customer now?
Not on the evidence available in the report. The story explains what Outlit is pitching and quotes its founder describing a possible future in which each customer has an assigned agent. It does not provide a customer count, deployment list, independent product audit or proof that companies are currently monitoring all of their customers in this way.

“Personal stalker” is therefore a description of the proposed intensity of monitoring, not a finding that a named person is being followed by Outlit today. Whether a business uses such a system, which sources it connects and how often it updates a profile would depend on that business’s implementation and policies.

What does Outlit claim about privacy?
Outlit’s website promises that customer data is secure and anonymized. The report questions what “anonymized” means when the product’s purpose is to create intelligence files about individual customers. Removing a name is not the same as eliminating the ability to identify someone if a record still contains distinctive employment, location, relationship, purchasing or social-activity details.
The available account does not include a technical description of Outlit’s anonymization method, an independent security assessment, a data-deletion schedule or a detailed explanation of how customers can access, correct or opt out of a profile. Those omissions do not prove that the company’s safeguards fail; they mean the public report cannot verify the protection promised on the website.

Is this customer surveillance legal?
There is no definitive legal ruling in the report. Earle told Futurism, as quoted by Gizmodo, “There’s nothing that we’re doing that’s illegal, so we’re within our right to be able to monitor signals.” He also said businesses “need to know what’s going on with [their customers] — from every call that they’ve had, from every interaction, from every LinkedIn.” These are the founder’s statements, not an independent legal conclusion.

Public availability alone does not automatically settle whether combining information, profiling a person or using it for a new purpose is permitted. Businesses considering this model would need a jurisdiction-specific review rather than relying on a general claim that monitoring signals is lawful.

Could intensive monitoring improve retention?
Mining customer records can help a company notice missed follow-ups or signs that an account needs attention. That is the proposed rationale for Outlit’s retention and reactivation use cases. However, the report says the evidence is less clear that intensive monitoring of social posts improves customer outcomes. It supplies no measured conversion lift, churn reduction, customer-satisfaction result, controlled trial or other independent performance statistic.
There is also a practical trade-off. More signals can give an account team context, but irrelevant, outdated or misinterpreted information can lead to intrusive outreach and poor decisions. A profile that infers a customer’s priorities from personal activity may be wrong, and a wrong inference can damage trust even if the underlying data was collected lawfully.

Why the proposal matters
Outlit’s pitch illustrates a shift from customer records that staff consult to customer profiles that software watches continuously. That distinction affects transparency, consent, data minimization and the possibility of automated decisions about a person. It also raises a basic expectation question: should a customer reasonably anticipate that a call with a company will be combined with unrelated online activity and personal details to generate sales instructions?
