Humanoid robots could become a new source of DRAM demand, but the market is still a forecast—not a proven growth driver for Samsung or SK hynix. Seoul Economic Daily reported on Oct. 11, 2026, that Counterpoint Research expects humanoid-robot DRAM demand to rise from about 8,300 terabits in 2026 to 172,000 terabits in 2030. That would make robots a potential addition to the broader AI-memory market; the available figures do not show how much revenue either supplier could earn from them.
How large could humanoid-robot DRAM demand become?
The reported forecast points to roughly twentyfold growth in humanoid-robot DRAM demand between 2026 and 2030. It combines two expected changes: more robots shipped and more DRAM capacity in each robot.

These figures are secondhand: Seoul Economic Daily attributes them to the two research firms but does not provide their underlying forecast reports or detailed methodology. Its English report says it was AI-translated from Korean and cautions that foreign-source quotations may not exactly reflect the original wording. Why might robots need more DRAM?
More memory in each machine
The reported estimate for DRAM capacity per humanoid robot rises from 19 GB in 2026 to 39 GB in 2030. More capable onboard AI systems could increase memory requirements, but the figures do not specify a standard robot configuration or establish how much DRAM every model will use.

The shipment estimate rises from 60,000 humanoid robots in 2026 to about 500,000 in 2030. If shipments grow as forecast, a larger installed base could multiply memory demand even if capacity per robot changed little. Both the adoption rate and the per-robot estimate remain uncertain.
Which memory types could benefit?
LPDDR is a plausible category to watch
Low-power DRAM may suit robots because energy efficiency matters in a mobile system. Samsung describes LPDDR5 as a low-power DRAM family for mobile and automotive products. NAND storage is complementary, not interchangeable
The report also identifies high-capacity NAND storage as a possible complementary opportunity. DRAM provides working memory for active computation; NAND provides nonvolatile storage. Growth in one category should not be treated as equivalent to growth in the other.

High-bandwidth memory is part of the broader AI-memory context, but the reviewed sources do not establish HBM as a standard memory configuration for humanoid robots. A general increase in AI-related memory demand is not proof of robot-specific HBM demand.

What does the forecast mean for Samsung and SK hynix?
Samsung has broader AI-memory momentum, not disclosed robot sales
Samsung reported record quarterly revenue and operating profit for its Memory Business in Q4 2025, amid strong conventional DRAM demand, expanding HBM sales and higher overall memory prices. Its FY2025 results release also described plans for 2026. Samsung said: “In 2026, the Memory Business will continue to maintain close partnerships with customers based on product competitiveness and aims to address customer demand through the timely shipment of competitive HBM4 and the expansion of sales of AI-related products such as DDR5, SOCAMM2 and GDDR7.” This is a broad AI-memory plan, not a statement about robot customers or robot-related revenue. SK hynix discusses physical AI, without a robot-specific sales forecast
SK hynix describes robots as one anticipated physical-AI application and outlines a broad AI-memory strategy. That establishes strategic interest in the area, but the reviewed material does not disclose a robot customer order or forecast revenue from humanoid robots. SK hynix’s company article

What would determine whether this becomes a growth driver?
- Shipments: whether humanoid-robot production approaches the forecast scale.
- Memory per machine: whether actual configurations match or exceed the projected capacity.
- System design: which DRAM and storage types manufacturers select, given power, performance and cost constraints.
- Supplier exposure: whether Samsung or SK hynix wins customer designs and converts them into sustained shipments.
- Financial impact: how much robot-related memory contributes relative to each supplier’s larger memory business.
The reported industry forecast alone cannot establish supplier market share, the timing of customer adoption, or an effect on either company’s earnings. Samsung’s results and SK hynix’s strategy provide context for their broader AI-memory positions, not evidence that either has already secured a robot-specific revenue stream.
