A 2026 wave of Instagram accounts pairs attractive AI-generated women with comedians’ reported jokes, then funnels the resulting views to Fanvue, OnlyFans and similar paid adult-content pages. The operators are often anonymous, while the reach and income can come at the expense of identifiable human creators.
What the accounts are doing
The scheme combines three assets that normally belong to different businesses: a sexualized visual persona, recognizable stand-up material and an algorithmically amplified short video. An operator creates a consistent-looking woman with image or video software, or places an AI face over footage of a real model or creator. The account then performs a joke associated with a human comedian and uses Instagram’s profile and traffic to advertise paid adult content.
That description covers a documented pattern, not proof that every AI comedian account infringes copyright. Individual cases remain allegations or creator-documented comparisons, and the people running the accounts are frequently unidentified.
Instagram’s recommendation system supplies the distribution. A clip can attract attention because of the image before viewers assess whether the timing, wording or premise is original. Sarah Purdum said one bot looked “comedian-esque” but did not get the joke. The weak performance can still work as promotional content if it generates a click.

How the joke-to-subscription funnel works

Build a repeatable persona
The operator generates the same-looking woman across posts, or face-swaps an AI identity onto footage taken from a real person. A WIRED/404 Media review of more than 1,000 AI-influencer accounts found 100 containing deepfake material. Sixty accounts disclosed AI use and 40 did not.

Insert a recognizable routine
The script may preserve a comedian’s wording, premise, delivery pattern or even clothing. George Brett Olson publicly compared his material and outfit with a Tiffany Sloan clip. Such side-by-side evidence can show copying, but it is not the same as a court ruling on infringement.

Package it as short-form entertainment
The video is edited for Instagram’s feed and recommendation surfaces. Jokes selected by one bot often concerned dating or women, subjects that fit the sexualized character and can make the account appear to be a comedy creator rather than an advertisement.

Send viewers to a paid page
The bio or a linked post directs traffic to Fanvue, OnlyFans or another adult-content service. Straight Arrow News described the stolen-joke videos as advertising pornography; another reported link led to an OnlyFans page. WIRED documented one account offering pay-per-view material priced from $3 to $22.

Use engagement to improve the next batch
Views, comments and follows become a marketing asset. Operators can produce variants, observe which hooks the algorithm rewards and use the resulting audience to sell subscriptions, pay-per-view posts or other services. The account does not need to be a good comedy act if the visual attracts enough initial attention.

Why comedians say the harm is larger than a copied punchline
A stand-up joke is usually promoted through a performer’s identity, voice and timing. When an AI body gets the distribution, the human who wrote and tested the material may receive neither attribution nor the resulting audience. Olivia Carter described the pressure this way: “I think Instagram has made a pressure where, like, comedians are now influencers and influencers look a certain way.”
She also warned, “For comedy in general, we’re creating a world where people expect comics to be like AI-generated women’s bodies.” Her concern is not limited to one stolen clip: recommendation systems may teach audiences and creators that a sexualized synthetic persona is the most efficient route to attention. Carter added, “I just think it’s encouraging an algorithm that pushes forward like, young hot women.”
Timing is part of the work being appropriated. “Jokes are meant to happen in real time,” Carter said. A generated performance can detach the words from the room, the performer and the years of testing that made the routine effective.

Adult-content creators report a parallel loss. Elaina St James said, “This is probably one of the reasons my views are going down,” linking the rise of synthetic accounts to reduced visibility for human creators. Those reports describe an economic and distributional effect; they do not establish that every decline came from one account or one platform change.
Are the “women” real people?
Sometimes there is no single real woman behind the face: the image, voice and motion are generated. In other cases, the face is swapped onto footage of a real model or creator without that person’s participation. The WIRED/404 Media sample found both undisclosed AI accounts and accounts using deepfake material, so viewers cannot infer the production method from appearance alone.

Reporting on the named examples has not established the operators’ identities, and an account name should not be treated as the name of a performer, comedian or adult-content creator. A profile can also change its name, delete posts or redirect its bio after a clip spreads.

Where the money comes from
Subscriptions and pay-per-view
A profile link can convert a free Instagram audience into recurring subscriptions or individual paid messages. The documented $3-to-$22 pay-per-view range illustrates the model for one account, not a standard price across services. Fanvue and OnlyFans are destinations in the reported funnel, while the Instagram post itself may be free.
Attention as inventory
Even viewers who never pay can increase the account’s value. Large follower counts and repeated high-view clips make it easier to promote another page, test new synthetic characters or negotiate promotional work. Kotaku reported that the Tiffany Sloan operation was monetizing views and engagement and creating variants to test what the algorithm rewarded.
What Instagram and subscription platforms can do
Enforcement currently depends heavily on evidence and reporting. Instagram told WIRED that it acts on violations when rights holders or their authorized representatives report them. That places a practical burden on comedians to find copies, document dates and submit a claim before a platform reviews the material.

A platform policy is only effective if detection catches a post or a rights holder can supply enough information for a review. A deletion also may not undo the reach gained before removal.
Trust-and-safety director Alexios Mantzarlis described the wider risk after reviewing the ecosystem: “It felt like a possible sign of what social media is going to look like in five years.”
What a creator should do after finding a copied clip
- Preserve the evidence. Save the URL, username, caption, upload date, video file and screenshots before reporting. Record the original joke’s publication date and any earlier performance or recording.
- Make the comparison easy to verify. Put the original and the AI clip side by side, marking matching wording, premise, sequence, gestures or clothing. Identify which parts are your work and which are merely similar.
- Use the platform’s rights and impersonation routes. Submit the report as the rights holder or through an authorized representative, and include the account, post and evidence rather than relying only on a general spam report.
- Report the destination page separately. If the profile redirects to a paid service, report the copied or deepfaked material to that service as well. Keep the case numbers and responses.
- Tell the audience what is verified. State that the clip is reported or documented as copied unless a court or platform has made a definitive finding. Avoid naming an alleged operator when reporting has not established that person’s identity.
What viewers should check before sharing
- Does the account clearly disclose that its face, voice or performance is AI-generated?
- Does the bio redirect to a paid adult-content page while presenting the feed as comedy?
- Does the wording match a comedian’s earlier recording, and can you locate the original?
- Are comments, captions or profile details changing after criticism?
Sharing a viral clip supplies the engagement the funnel is designed to capture. Watching without reposting, and reporting a documented deepfake or copied performance, reduces that distribution while giving the original creator a usable record.
