UBS reports that 65% of the family offices in its 2026 survey currently allocate some money to artificial intelligence. The report links that broad participation—and comments from anonymous industry figures—to fear of missing out, even as it notes concerns about valuations. The figures show how common an AI allocation is among respondents; they do not prove that FOMO caused those investment decisions.
What UBS’s survey says about family offices and AI
In its Global Family Office Report 2026, UBS says 65% of surveyed family offices currently allocate to AI, and 7% plan to add AI exposure over the next 12 months. The 65% is the share of respondents reporting an allocation to the theme—not the share of their portfolios invested in AI. The report does not say that each participating office invests in every AI-related category it names.
UBS describes AI as the leading thematic investment priority. About half of the family offices with AI allocations invest in areas spanning the technology value chain:

- Data-center infrastructure
- AI software and platforms
- Semiconductor producers
Those categories indicate the breadth of exposure the report discusses; they are not a list of holdings shared by every respondent. UBS also reports that 60% of surveyed offices plan changes to their strategic asset allocation over the next 12 months, a broader figure that is not specific to AI.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Does the report show that FOMO caused the investments?
No. UBS presents fear of missing out as an interpretation consistent with widespread AI participation despite valuation concerns. The survey’s allocation and intention figures do not establish why offices invested, so they should not be treated as proof of a psychological cause.
The report illustrates its interpretation with anonymous client commentary. One Asian client is quoted as saying, “FOMO means family offices are investing in the rival AI ecosystems developing in the US and China.” The report also quotes an unnamed CEO of a Hong Kong-based family office company saying offices are “frightened of missing out” and investing in both ecosystems. That CEO describes diversification across strategies and asset classes to capture opportunities across the AI value chain.

These are individual comments, not measured findings about the motives of all survey participants. They help explain why the report uses the FOMO framing, but they do not show how many offices share that view or how much they invested in either ecosystem.
Why valuation concerns matter
The report pairs enthusiasm for AI with concern about valuation risk and possible overheating. That combination suggests a more complicated picture than a simple rush to increase allocations: UBS describes exposure as being refined rather than simply scaled back. Its reported 7% planning to add AI over the next 12 months is an intention figure, not evidence that those plans were later carried out.

The distinction matters for readers interpreting the headline. The survey supports the conclusion that AI is a widespread theme among the UBS client offices surveyed. It does not establish future returns, whether current valuations are justified, or whether the respondents’ planned changes will prove successful.

These figures describe a substantial sample of UBS clients, not every family office worldwide. The survey’s results should therefore be read as a snapshot of the participating offices rather than a universal measure of family-office investment behavior.
