There is no universally best AI tool for buyer-intent signals. The clearest option depends on which behavior you need to see: activity on your own website and CRM, software-evaluation actions on a review marketplace, broad topic research across the B2B web, or a combined account-intelligence workflow. 6sense, G2 Buyer Intent, Bombora Company Surge, and Demandbase document materially different approaches.

Use their signals to prioritize accounts, not to declare that a company is ready to buy. Matching quality, data freshness, topic coverage, and workflow integration determine whether an attractive score becomes useful pipeline evidence.

What buyer-intent signals actually tell you

A buyer-intent signal is an observable behavior that suggests an account may be investigating a problem, category, vendor, or solution. It is a clue about research activity, not proof that a buying group has approved a project, selected a supplier, or set a purchase date.

First-party activity

Your own website, product, CRM, and marketing-automation data can show visits to product pages, pricing pages, documentation, campaign responses, form submissions, and prior opportunity history. Because the behavior occurs in systems you control, it can be joined to known account fit and existing engagement. The trade-off is coverage: anonymous visitors, dark-funnel research, and activity before a visitor reaches your site are invisible.

Review-marketplace activity

Software buyers often compare categories, vendors, prices, and reviews before contacting a supplier. A review marketplace can expose those actions at the account level. The context is unusually specific for software evaluation, but it is less representative of buyers researching physical services, bespoke projects, or categories that are weakly represented on that marketplace.

Publisher and bidstream activity

Third-party publisher networks can observe content consumption and topic-level behavior across a wider B2B web. Bidstream-derived intent can add reach when an account has not visited your site. Its usefulness depends on the network’s publisher coverage, topic taxonomy, identity matching, and the rules used to separate meaningful interest from incidental reading.

Partner and modeled signals

Platforms may ingest outside providers, combine those observations with first-party activity, and use machine-learning models to estimate an account’s likelihood of progressing. A modeled score compresses many inputs into a prioritization aid. It does not turn probabilistic observations into verified purchase intent.

How AI intent platforms turn activity into an account signal

  1. Collect activity. The platform receives website events, CRM and marketing-automation records, keyword or topic activity, review interactions, publisher events, or partner feeds.
  2. Normalize and match. Names, domains, cookies, IP-derived company information, and partner identifiers are reconciled to an account. Matching can fail when a visitor uses a subsidiary domain, a shared network, a privacy service, or a company name that is ambiguous.
  3. Classify meaning. Natural-language processing and topic models decide whether a page, keyword, or article relates to a configured subject. Better classification reduces irrelevant matches; it cannot eliminate ambiguity in a short or generic query.
  4. Measure change. Systems look for volume, recency, recurrence, or unusual increases in activity. A trend can be more useful than a single page view, but the exact lookback and baseline differ by product.
  5. Score and route. The platform produces an account, topic, or buying-stage signal and sends it to advertising, marketing-automation, CRM, sales-alert, or account-based workflows.
  6. Validate in context. Revenue teams should compare the signal with firmographic fit, known contacts, first-party engagement, open opportunities, and buying-group evidence before changing coverage or outreach.

False positives are unavoidable. 6sense says accuracy varies by provider according to the breadth of its signal network, matching sophistication, and refresh frequency. Treat every score as a hypothesis that needs corroboration.

AI buyer-intent tools compared

Product Documented signal approach Scoring, freshness, or coverage detail Workflow caveat
6sense Native intent network, AI analysis and keyword recommendations, plus named integrations with Bombora, TechTarget, TrustRadius, and G2. Its predictive company-activity model combines CRM, marketing automation, web, business-network keyword activity, and third-party sources. Intent scores run from 0–100 and update daily, according to 6sense Support (updated July 23, 2025). Its product page says it tracks intent data in more than 40 languages, a vendor claim rather than an independent coverage measurement. The G2 connection matches a signal to an existing account by website domain. An unmatched G2 signal does not create a new account in 6sense.
G2 Buyer Intent Product and category page views, competitor comparisons, pricing engagement, and review consumption or contribution on G2’s software research marketplace. The documented emphasis is software-evaluation behavior rather than a universal cross-industry intent score. G2 says it integrates with platforms including 6sense and Demandbase. Its “verified” positioning is the company’s own description, not an independent validation finding.
Bombora Company Surge Increased research activity across the B2B web for selected topics. Bombora says every 6sense customer receives access to 12 topics; additional topic packages are described separately. Bombora is embedded in 6sense for segmentation, predictive models, and sales intelligence. Confirm the topics and entitlements in the package you are buying.
Demandbase Keyword-based intent from a B2B publisher bidstream and direct website engagement. AI and NLP determine relevance and trends; Bombora, G2, and TrustRadius signals can be imported. Demandbase describes intent as probabilistic. Its model methodology may change, so historical comparisons require version and methodology notes. A separate AI Insights feature summarizes activity. Availability and behavior depend on the current plan and product configuration.

These approaches are not a controlled head-to-head test. The available documentation does not establish comparable pricing, a neutral accuracy leaderboard, or a common definition of “intent.” Do not compare vendor network-size claims as if they were measured under the same period, scope, or audit.

6sense: a combined predictive account model

What it emphasizes

6sense combines its native intent network with AI analysis, keyword recommendations, and partner data. Its named third-party connections include Bombora, TechTarget, TrustRadius, and G2. The resulting predictive company-activity model can use CRM, marketing-automation, website, business-network keyword, and third-party activity.

How the score is defined

6sense Support defines the intent score as “the output of the Predictive company activity model that uses an account’s historical activity data to determine the likelihood of the account opening an opportunity in the next 90 days.” The documented range is 0–100, and scores update daily. That definition is a modeled opportunity-likelihood estimate, not a statement that a named buyer has committed to a purchase.

Where it can fit

  • Organizations that want one account-prioritization layer across first-party, network, and partner observations.
  • Teams already operating account-based advertising, sales alerts, and CRM workflows around a predictive model.
  • Companies that need keyword recommendations and multilingual coverage; 6sense’s product page claims more than 40 languages.

Important matching constraint

In the G2 integration, the signal is matched to an existing 6sense account by website domain. If no match is available, the signal does not create a new account in 6sense. Clean account domains and a deliberate account-coverage strategy therefore matter before judging the quality of the feed.

What not to infer

A high score does not establish that the account is in-market, that the right buying group is engaged, or that an opportunity will open. 6sense itself cautions that false positives remain a challenge. Use the score to decide where to investigate, then verify fit and engagement.

G2 Buyer Intent: direct evidence of software evaluation

Signal types

G2 documents signals from activity on its software marketplace, including product and category page views, competitor comparisons, pricing engagement, and review consumption or contribution. Those actions are close to the information-gathering behavior that precedes many software purchases.

Best contextual fit

G2 is most naturally aligned with B2B software vendors whose categories and competitors are represented on the marketplace. A pricing-page engagement or comparison action can provide more product-specific context than a generic topic surge. It will not capture every buyer, and activity on a review site does not reveal whether the visitor has budget, authority, or a live project.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Integrations and interpretation

G2 says its Buyer Intent data integrates with platforms including 6sense and Demandbase. When routed into another system, inspect how the destination matches domains, handles subsidiaries, deduplicates accounts, and timestamps events. G2’s description of signals as “verified” should be read as product positioning, not as an independent accuracy certification.

Bombora Company Surge: topic-level movement across the B2B web

What a surge represents

Bombora Company Surge is designed to identify increased research activity for selected topics across the B2B web. The emphasis is change in topic interest, not a specific visit to your website or a confirmed comparison of your product.

How 6sense users encounter it

Bombora states that its data is embedded in 6sense for segmentation, predictive models, and sales intelligence. Bombora says every 6sense customer receives access to 12 topics, while additional topic coverage options are available. Because packaging can change, confirm the actual topic list, geography, lookback, and export rights in your agreement.

When it is useful

  • When your go-to-market motion depends on discovering accounts before they arrive on your site.
  • When a defined topic taxonomy is more valuable than a vendor-specific page visit.
  • When marketing needs to segment audiences by changing subject interest and sales needs an additional prioritization signal.

A topic surge still requires account-fit checks. A company can research a subject for competitive intelligence, hiring, journalism, education, or an existing supplier relationship rather than a new purchase.

Demandbase: keyword intent alongside account intelligence

Documented inputs

Demandbase describes keyword-based intent from a B2B publisher bidstream and direct engagement with a company’s website. Its AI and NLP determine relevance and trends. The platform can also import third-party signals from Bombora, G2, and TrustRadius.

Probabilistic modeling

Demandbase explicitly characterizes intent as probabilistic and notes that its model methodology may change. Keep the model version, date range, topic settings, and source mix with any score used in a forecast or performance review. A change in methodology can look like a change in buyer interest if the surrounding context is not recorded.

AI Insights

A separate AI Insights feature summarizes activity for users who need a narrative view rather than a raw event stream. Confirm current plan availability and exactly which sources the feature summarizes before making it part of a standard operating procedure.

Potential fit

Demandbase may suit teams evaluating account intelligence, keyword intent, and orchestration together. That is a conditional fit based on the documented feature set, not a claim that it will outperform the other products for every segment.

Which approach fits your buying motion?

If your immediate question is… Start by examining… Why
“Which software accounts are actively comparing products or prices?” G2 Buyer Intent Its documented events occur on a software research marketplace and include product, category, competitor, pricing, and review actions.
“Can we combine account scoring with multiple internal and external signals?” 6sense Its predictive company-activity model combines CRM, marketing automation, web, keyword, native, and partner inputs.
“Which accounts are showing broader interest in a topic before they visit us?” Bombora Company Surge Its documented focus is increased topic research activity across the B2B web.
“Can keyword intent and account orchestration live in one intelligence workflow?” Demandbase Its documentation covers publisher-bidstream keywords, direct website engagement, imported partner signals, and account workflows.

These are shortlist hypotheses. Validate them against your region, target account list, category coverage, privacy requirements, and existing systems.

Six tests to apply to every vendor

1. Provenance

For each signal, ask where the observation originated: your own web property, a review marketplace, a publisher or bidstream network, a partner feed, or a model built from several sources. Require users to see the source and event type rather than only a colored score.

2. Granularity and identity matching

Determine whether the product identifies a company, account, location, buying group, or named person. Ask how it handles subsidiaries, parent companies, agencies, remote workers, shared IP addresses, privacy controls, and accounts without a matching domain. A precise event assigned to the wrong account is operationally worse than a less detailed event assigned correctly.

3. Recency and history

Document refresh frequency, lookback period, event timestamp, decay rules, and historical retention. 6sense documents daily score updates; the comparable refresh behavior for other products must be confirmed in their current configuration. Do not treat a daily score refresh as proof that every underlying event is new.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Contextual precision

Inspect topic definitions, keyword controls, language support, exclusions, competitor terms, and methods for filtering irrelevant activity. A broad topic may maximize reach while a narrow topic may produce fewer but more interpretable accounts. Ask to see the underlying pages, terms, or categories that caused a flag.

5. Operational fit

Map the path from signal to action: CRM field, marketing-automation segment, advertising audience, sales alert, task, or account plan. Confirm integration direction, latency, permissions, deduplication, write-back behavior, and what happens when an account cannot be matched. A signal that cannot reach the team responsible for acting on it has little practical value.

6. Proof and governance

Require an evidence trail, consent and privacy controls appropriate to your jurisdictions, role-based access, retention rules, and an export for audit. Agree in advance how you will measure lift against a baseline or control. Vendor case studies can illustrate a use case, but they are not neutral evidence of expected performance.

How to run a defensible pilot

  1. Define one decision. Choose a concrete use, such as prioritizing named-account outreach, suppressing low-fit advertising, or identifying accounts for a specific topic. Avoid testing every workflow at once.
  2. Freeze the audience and fit rules. Record the industries, employee ranges, regions, account tiers, exclusions, and opportunity stages that qualify an account before any score is viewed.
  3. Capture a baseline. Measure current meeting creation, opportunity conversion, sales response, pipeline progression, or another outcome using the same account definition you will use after deployment.
  4. Instrument the evidence. Store source, topic or keyword, event time, matched domain, score or surge status, model version where available, and the action taken. Do not retain only a changing aggregate score.
  5. Use a comparison group. Hold out a suitable portion of the audience or compare with a documented historical baseline. The goal is to learn whether the signal improves prioritization, not merely whether users open the dashboard.
  6. Review false positives and misses. Sample high-scoring accounts that did not progress and low-scoring accounts that did. Classify failures as poor fit, wrong identity match, stale activity, irrelevant topic, duplicate activity, or a genuine model miss.
  7. Test the handoff. Follow a signal through the CRM, marketing, advertising, and sales process. Check latency, ownership, alert volume, suppression logic, and whether representatives can see enough evidence to act responsibly.
  8. Set a continuation rule. Expand only if the pilot shows useful incremental outcomes, acceptable governance, and a workload the revenue team can sustain. Otherwise narrow topics, change matching rules, or stop the use case.

Common failure modes and fixes

A high score is treated as a sales-ready lead

Why it happens: A single number appears more certain than the underlying evidence. Fix: require fit, first-party engagement, contact or buying-group context, and CRM history before assigning sales priority.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Anonymous activity is assigned to the wrong company

Why it happens: Shared networks, privacy tools, subsidiaries, and stale domains weaken identity resolution. Fix: audit matched domains, maintain parent-child account rules, and create a review path for ambiguous matches.

Topic volume is mistaken for product interest

Why it happens: A company may study a topic for hiring, education, competitive intelligence, or an existing supplier. Fix: combine topic activity with product-category fit, known contacts, first-party behavior, and opportunity history.

Old activity keeps triggering action

Why it happens: Users cannot see the event timestamp, lookback, or decay behavior. Fix: expose recency in the workflow, set expiration rules, and distinguish a new surge from a persistent historical score.

Overlapping partner feeds inflate confidence

Why it happens: The same underlying behavior may appear through native and partner sources. Fix: preserve source attribution, deduplicate where possible, and avoid counting multiple feeds as independent confirmations unless their provenance is genuinely different.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Model changes break trend reporting

Why it happens: A vendor changes methodology, taxonomy, or matching logic. Fix: record model and configuration changes, annotate dashboards, and avoid comparing scores across versions without a calibration check.

The alert stream overwhelms sales

Why it happens: Every signal is routed without account tiers, ownership, or a response policy. Fix: set thresholds by use case, cap alerts, assign an owner, and route lower-confidence activity to nurture or advertising instead of immediate outreach.

What to ask during a demo or security review

  • What exact event, page, keyword, topic, or source produced this account signal?
  • How is an anonymous or subsidiary event matched to an account, and can we inspect unmatched activity?
  • What are the refresh interval, lookback window, decay rule, and historical-retention policy?
  • Which topics, languages, geographies, and account types are covered in our package?
  • Can we import our own first-party events and export source-level evidence?
  • How are duplicate events and overlapping partner feeds handled?
  • What happens when a CRM account is merged, renamed, or deleted?
  • Can administrators restrict access, honor consent requirements, and delete or retain data by policy?
  • How are model, taxonomy, and methodology changes announced and versioned?
  • Which integrations write back to CRM, marketing automation, advertising, and sales-engagement systems, and how quickly?

Bottom line for a 2026 shortlist

Choose by signal provenance and operating motion, not by the largest score or the most impressive dashboard. G2 is the most directly tied to software-marketplace evaluation actions. Bombora is centered on topic-level increases across the B2B web. 6sense combines native and partner data with a daily 0–100 predictive company-activity score. Demandbase pairs keyword and bidstream intent with direct website engagement, imported partner data, and account orchestration.

Whichever platform you shortlist, require account matching evidence, visible timestamps, topic context, governance controls, and a pilot measured against a baseline or control. A useful intent signal narrows where your team investigates; it never replaces verification that a real buying group, with a relevant problem and sufficient fit, is moving toward a purchase.
