To set up an Agmundr Zombie Apocalypse server, select one exact pack release, keep Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge aligned for every player, use that release’s own server files or server pack, and allocate at least 8GB of RAM. Agmundr’s project guidance recommends 12GB or more. A documented 1.6.8 server-pack ZIP is available, while a separate server artifact for the newer 1.7.5 release is not clearly identified, so do not mix files between those versions.
What an Agmundr server is running
Agmundr – Zombie Apocalypse is a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge modpack created by shripp. It is an apocalypse-focused pack built around survival pressure, custom classes and difficulty settings, special zombies, Create technology questlines, realistic body damage, seasons, world-generation changes, decoration content, weapons and armor systems. The project description says its quest system is intended to teach players how the game’s systems work while they survive.

The project listing describes the pack as containing more than 240 mods. A separate technical analysis counted 305 mod projects in release 1.7.5, which may reflect how individual dependencies and projects are counted rather than a contradiction in gameplay content. Treat the release’s own manifest as the authoritative file list.

All players must use the same Minecraft 1.20.1 version and the same Forge release family as the server. “Almost the same” is not sufficient: a different Forge build, pack release, manifest or override set can prevent a client from joining or can produce a world with missing content.

How do I set up an Agmundr Zombie Apocalypse server?
Use this order whether you are installing on your own computer or preparing files for a managed host. It keeps the release, loader and configuration together and avoids the most common cause of modded-server failures: combining files from different pack versions.
- Choose one exact Agmundr release. Write down the release number, Minecraft version and Forge version shown in that release’s files and notes. The current project information lists 1.7.5 as the newest release, but the documented server ZIP is for 1.6.8.
- Check the release’s file list for a server artifact. Open the CurseForge files for the release you selected and look for a server pack or server-specific download. Read the release notes at the same time. Do not assume that a server ZIP for another release is compatible.
- Prepare a clean server directory. Use a new, dedicated folder rather than an existing vanilla or unrelated modded-server folder. This prevents old configuration files, mods and world data from being loaded accidentally.
- Install the matching Forge server files. Follow the installer and startup instructions supplied with the selected release. The exact command line and Java runtime requirement are not identified in the available project information, so use the release notes or your host’s current Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge instructions instead of copying a command from an unrelated version.
- Apply the matching manifest and overrides. Extract or upload the manifest, configuration, scripts and overrides that belong to the same Agmundr release. Preserve their directory structure. Never copy a client folder over the server directory blindly; client-only files and mismatched overrides can cause crashes or missing registry entries.
- Set the memory ceiling. Allocate at least 8GB of RAM. The project recommends 12GB or more, which is the sensible starting point for a group server. Leave operating-system memory outside that allocation so the machine can still run its services.
- Start the server once. The first start should create configuration files and present the Minecraft EULA prompt. Stop the process after that initial generation, accept the EULA only if you agree to it, and edit settings you understand before the next start.
- Test the selected pack locally. Confirm that the server reaches a ready state, creates a world and loads the expected mods. Join with a client installed from the identical pack release and Forge family before inviting other players.
- Back up before changes. Stop the server and copy the world, configuration and release-specific files before changing settings or upgrading. Keep at least one backup from the last known-good release.
- Give players one installation target. Tell every player the exact Agmundr release and Forge version. A client on 1.7.5 should not be pointed at a 1.6.8 server, and a client with a manually edited mod folder should not be treated as equivalent to the official pack files.
Where is the Agmundr server pack?
The documented server download is listed in the Agmundr project’s CurseForge files as Agmundr – Zombie Apocalypse-v1.6.8serverpack.zip. The listing identifies it as a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge server pack, uploaded March 18, 2026, with a size of 1.1GB.

The available project information does not clearly identify a separate server-pack artifact for release 1.7.5, even though 1.7.5 is listed as the latest release. Before building a 1.7.5 world, inspect the 1.7.5 files and release notes for an official server download or host-specific installation method. If no matching server artifact is provided, do not rename or edit the 1.6.8 ZIP and call it a 1.7.5 server.

What must stay together
- The Agmundr release number.
- The Minecraft 1.20.1 version.
- The corresponding Forge loader build.
- The release manifest and dependency list.
- Configuration and override files from that same release.
- The client installation used by every player.
This grouping matters because a modpack release can change dependencies, configuration defaults, world-generation settings or scripts without changing the Minecraft minor version. Keeping only the game version aligned is not enough.
How much RAM does Agmundr need?
The Agmundr project publishes three memory figures: 8GB as the minimum server allocation, and 12GB or more as both the recommended and ideal allocation. These are starting points, not a guaranteed player-capacity table. Actual use depends on loaded chunks, view and simulation distances, world-generation activity, entity counts, automation and the number of players online.

Planning memory without inventing a player limit
No independent benchmark or player-capacity study establishes how many players a specific allocation can support. Do not convert the figures above into a promised player count. Instead, watch startup logs, memory usage, tick responsiveness and the effect of exploration after the world is live. If the host offers memory in megabytes, confirm how it converts the plan’s advertised amount and ensure the process limit is not lower than your target.

On a self-hosted machine, 12GB assigned to Java does not mean the machine needs only 12GB total. The operating system, backups, monitoring and any other services need headroom. A host plan that advertises 8GB or 9GB may therefore be suitable only if its total machine resources and workload are appropriate.
Self-hosting an Agmundr 1.20.1 Forge server
Self-hosting gives you direct control over the files, world backups and upgrade schedule. It also makes you responsible for the hardware, network reachability, firewall rules, operating-system updates and recovery plan.
What self-hosting requires
- A machine that can keep at least 8GB assigned to the server while retaining memory for the operating system.
- Stable storage for the 1.1GB 1.6.8 server pack, extracted files, logs, backups and the growing world.
- A network path that allows invited players to reach the server, with firewall and router configuration handled by you.
- Time to install Forge, apply the pack files, monitor the process and perform backups.
- A rollback plan before changing releases or deleting configuration files.
Safer first-start routine
- Stop any old Minecraft server process and verify that the new folder is empty.
- Install only the Forge and Agmundr files for the release you selected.
- Start once to generate the EULA prompt and default configuration.
- Stop, review the generated files and change only settings you can identify confidently.
- Start again and wait for a clean ready state before opening the server to players.
- Join with a matching client, test a short exploration run and create the first backup.
The exact Java version, startup command and configuration-key names are not published in the available official evidence. Use the current release notes or your hosting provider’s documentation for those details; do not assume a command written for another Forge pack will work for Agmundr.

Agmundr server hosting: when a managed host is easier
Managed Minecraft hosting can remove much of the installation and networking work. Look for a provider that offers the exact Agmundr release, Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, enough memory and a backup mechanism. One-click installation is convenient, but it does not eliminate the need to verify the resulting version.

These listings are service options rather than physical products. Availability, pricing, regions, included backups and affiliate or promotional terms can change. Check the provider’s current control panel and plan page at the time you deploy. If a host installs a different release than the one your players downloaded, stop and correct the version before creating a permanent world.

The client reports missing mods or registry differences
First compare the client and server release numbers, then compare their Forge builds. Reinstall the exact Agmundr release on the client instead of adding individual mods by hand. If the server directory contains files from two releases, restore the clean directory or rebuild it from the selected release’s manifest and overrides.

The server pack cannot be found for 1.7.5
Check the 1.7.5 files and release notes again. The documented ZIP is for 1.6.8, and the available project information does not establish a separate 1.7.5 server file. Do not substitute the older ZIP. Use an officially documented server method for 1.7.5 or choose 1.6.8 for both server and clients.
The server stops during first startup
Read the first error rather than the final cascade of messages. Confirm that the Forge files, manifest and overrides came from one release, that the process has at least the memory you assigned, and that the server is running in its intended directory. Remove only files you can identify as generated or incorrect, and restore the clean backup if the configuration has become uncertain.

Check that the server finished loading, that the network and firewall path is open, and that players are using Minecraft 1.20.1 with the same Forge family and Agmundr release. A successful client launch does not prove compatibility with the server’s exact files.
An upgrade damages the world
Stop the server, restore the pre-upgrade world and configuration backup, and return every player to the previous pack release. Test the new release in a separate world before attempting another migration. Keep the old installation intact until the new one has loaded and been tested successfully.
Release-selection checklist
- Have you selected 1.6.8 or 1.7.5 deliberately rather than mixing them?
- Does the server use Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge?
- Did you obtain a server artifact or installation method documented for that same release?
- Are the manifest, overrides, configuration and client files from one release?
- Is the server allocated at least 8GB, with 12GB or more preferred?
- Have you completed a clean first start and accepted the EULA knowingly?
- Can you restore the world and configuration from a backup?
- Have you verified the host’s current release, memory, storage, region and terms if using managed hosting?
Bottom line
An Agmundr server is reliable when version discipline comes first: Minecraft 1.20.1, the matching Forge build, one exact pack release and that release’s own manifest and overrides. Budget 8GB as the floor and 12GB or more as the project’s recommendation. The 1.6.8 server-pack ZIP is documented and 1.1GB, but it is not a substitute for an as-yet-unidentified 1.7.5 server artifact. Self-hosting offers control; managed hosting offers easier deployment. In either case, verify the release before generating a world and back up before every change.
