To get an Afghan IP address from outside Afghanistan, use a VPN that explicitly lists Afghanistan or Kabul, connect to that location, then verify the public IP with an independent geolocation checker. The country label does not necessarily mean the VPN server is physically in Afghanistan. For example, Proton VPN documents Afghanistan as a Smart Routing location whose traffic is physically routed through London. That distinction can affect geolocation, latency, and whether a website accepts the connection.
The most clearly documented option in the available evidence is Proton VPN, because it publishes both an Afghanistan location and an explanation of its London-based Smart Routing. IceVPN and CometVPN list Kabul, while a September 8, 2026 Cloudwards guide also names HideMyAss and PureVPN. Those latter listings should be checked against current provider documentation before subscribing. No provider in this guide has been independently tested for speed, privacy, service access, or current Afghan-IP geolocation.
What an Afghan IP address actually means
An IP address is the public address websites see for your connection. When a VPN connection terminates at an endpoint associated with Afghanistan, geolocation databases may identify the address as Afghan, allowing services to show Afghanistan-specific language, content, or account options. Your device does not need to be physically in Afghanistan.
There are two different claims hidden in the phrase “Afghanistan VPN.” A provider may operate hardware inside Afghanistan, or it may advertise Afghanistan as a virtual or Smart Routing location while carrying the traffic through infrastructure in another country. Both can present an Afghan country label in some databases, but they are not equivalent.

Physical hosting versus a virtual location
Proton’s support documentation states that, for Smart Routing countries, “Instead of running servers physically inside those countries, we use servers that are, in reality, located elsewhere.” Its Afghanistan route is documented as going through London. The company’s server-location page, accessed October 13, 2026, displays Afghanistan with one city and five servers; those figures should not be described as five physical Afghan servers. See Proton’s Smart Routing explanation and its server-location page.
A physically hosted endpoint may reduce geographic ambiguity, but a virtual endpoint can still be useful if the IP is correctly classified by the service you need. Because databases differ and can change, always check the address you receive rather than relying only on a country name in an app.

The comparison is based on the cited pages, not connection tests. Proton provides the strongest disclosure about how its Afghanistan route works. IceVPN and CometVPN identify Kabul but do not, in the cited material, independently demonstrate physical hosting or a currently geolocating Afghan address. Cloudwards’ inclusion of HideMyAss and PureVPN is useful as a lead, but it is secondary coverage rather than current official confirmation.

Provider-by-provider details
Proton VPN: clearest explanation of a virtual Afghan route
Proton’s official documentation is unusually explicit: Afghanistan is a Smart Routing location, and the physical routing location is London. The location page shows one Afghan city and five servers, but those are displayed logical endpoints, not proof of five machines inside Afghanistan. This transparency lets you make an informed choice if a London-based physical route is acceptable.
To use it, install the current Proton app from the provider’s official download channel, sign in, open the location list, choose Afghanistan, and connect. Then inspect the public address with an independent geolocation service. If the result names a country other than Afghanistan, record the address and contact support before assuming the endpoint meets your requirement.
IceVPN: Kabul is listed, hosting details are not
IceVPN’s location page lists Kabul as a Pro location at its Afghanistan server-list page. The cited page does not explain whether Kabul is a physically hosted endpoint, a virtual location, or a Smart Routing label. It also does not independently establish how the assigned IPs are classified by current geolocation databases.

CometVPN: Kabul is advertised across four desktop and mobile platforms
CometVPN’s Kabul page instructs users to subscribe, install the application, and select Kabul. It describes apps for Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows. The page’s claims about real Kabul IPs, speed, privacy, and no logs are provider marketing statements; they were not independently tested here.
After connecting, check the public IP and run the same check again after reconnecting. A changing address that repeatedly maps to Afghanistan is more useful evidence than the location label alone, although no geolocation database is infallible.
HideMyAss and PureVPN: secondary-source mentions
A Cloudwards article updated September 8, 2026 lists HideMyAss and PureVPN alongside Proton VPN as possible ways to obtain an Afghan IP. The guide does not provide current official endpoint confirmation for either service. Before choosing one, open the provider’s own location documentation or app, verify that Afghanistan is selectable on your plan and device, and test the resulting address.

How to get an Afghan IP address step by step
- Define the result you need. Decide whether you need an address that geolocates to Afghanistan, a physically hosted connection inside the country, or simply an Afghanistan option in the VPN interface. These are different requirements.
- Confirm current availability. Check the provider’s official location list or app immediately before subscribing. Look for “Afghanistan” or “Kabul,” and read whether the endpoint is virtual, Smart Routed, or physically hosted. Proton’s own documentation identifies London as the physical route for its Afghanistan location.
- Check plan and platform support. Verify that the Afghanistan endpoint is included in your subscription tier and works on your operating system. CometVPN’s cited page mentions Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows; other providers may restrict locations by plan or device.
- Download from an official channel. Use the provider’s official website or the relevant app store. Avoid random APK files and browser extensions that imitate VPN brands.
- Install and sign in. Complete the app’s permission prompts, sign in, and allow the VPN profile or network extension required by your operating system.
- Select Afghanistan or Kabul. Open the location list, search for Afghanistan, choose Kabul if a city selector is offered, and press Connect. Wait for the app to show an active tunnel before opening other services.
- Check the public IP. Visit a reputable IP-geolocation lookup and note the address, country, city, autonomous-system or hosting information, and lookup date. The country shown by the VPN app is not sufficient proof.
- Test the specific service carefully. Sign in only after the address check. A site may use its own fraud or VPN-detection systems and reject a connection that geolocation databases classify as Afghan. No VPN can guarantee access to a particular streaming, banking, government, or social service.
- Disconnect when finished. Turn off the VPN when you no longer need the Afghan route, especially on mobile data, to restore your normal connection and avoid unexpected latency.
How to verify that the address is really Afghan
Use at least one independent geolocation lookup after every new provider or endpoint. Record the IP and lookup date because ownership and database classifications change. For higher confidence, compare two reputable databases; disagreement means the address is not reliably classified and may fail a location-sensitive service.
- Country mismatch: If the lookup shows the United Kingdom, the route may be reflecting Proton’s documented London infrastructure rather than an Afghan geolocation label.
- City mismatch: A Kabul selection can resolve to another Afghan city or to a nearby country. City-level data is less consistent than country-level data.
- VPN or hosting detection: A service may recognize a datacenter range even when the country is correct. Geolocation and VPN detection are separate systems.
- Private-address confusion: Addresses such as 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x are local network addresses, not the public IP websites see. Use the public address reported by the lookup site.
Troubleshooting an Afghan VPN connection
Afghanistan or Kabul is missing
Update the app, sign out and back in, and check whether the location is limited to a higher subscription tier. If the provider’s official list does not show Afghanistan, do not assume a similarly named third-party app supplies a working Afghan endpoint. A Google Play listing titled “Afghanistan VPN – Get Asian IP” includes one September 4, 2026 user review reporting that no Afghan server appeared; that single review is anecdotal, but it illustrates why an app title is not proof of availability. The listing is at Google Play.
The IP maps outside Afghanistan
Disconnect and reconnect to obtain another address, then repeat the lookup. If every address maps elsewhere, ask the provider whether the location is virtual or Smart Routed and whether its published country label is expected to appear in third-party databases. Do not describe a London-routed address as a physically Afghan server.
The target website still blocks you
Clear the site’s cookies only if you understand the account consequences, reconnect with a different endpoint, and check whether the site rejects known VPN or datacenter ranges. A correct Afghan geolocation does not override a service’s own access policy, identity checks, payment-country rules, or fraud controls. Never use a VPN to bypass a law, contract, or account rule that applies to you.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
The connection is slow or unstable
Virtual routing, international distance, congestion, and encryption overhead can all increase latency. Try another Afghan endpoint if the app offers one, use a nearby protocol option recommended by the provider, and compare performance with the VPN disconnected. No speed result is stated here because no endpoint test was conducted.
How to choose between the available options
Use these questions in order rather than choosing solely from a country list:
- Is Afghanistan explicitly selectable now? A current official app or location page is stronger evidence than an old review or an app-store title.
- Is the physical route disclosed? Proton documents London Smart Routing; the cited IceVPN and CometVPN pages do not establish physical hosting.
- Do you need Kabul specifically? IceVPN and CometVPN list Kabul. Proton’s page reports one Afghan city but the cited material does not name it.
- Can you use your device? Confirm operating-system support, simultaneous connections, and whether the location is included in your plan. These details vary by provider and can change.
- Does an independent lookup confirm the country? Test before relying on the VPN for a location-sensitive task.
- What is the provider’s privacy evidence? Separate documented policies from marketing claims. The cited material does not independently verify no-logging, speed, or security claims for IceVPN or CometVPN.
Privacy, security, and legal cautions
A VPN encrypts traffic between your device and the VPN service, but it does not make you anonymous. The provider can still observe connection metadata according to its systems and policy, and websites can identify you through accounts, cookies, browser fingerprints, payment records, or device signals.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use a current operating system, install updates, enable multi-factor authentication on important accounts, and avoid entering sensitive credentials on unfamiliar sites reached through a location-changing connection. Read the provider’s privacy policy and terms for your jurisdiction. The legality of using a VPN and the legality of accessing particular content vary by country; a VPN does not remove those obligations.
Prices, plans, app interfaces, endpoint inventories, and promotional terms are volatile. Confirm all of them at checkout and do not infer a refund, affiliate arrangement, or no-logs guarantee from a third-party article.
What the available evidence does—and does not—establish
The documented facts support a practical path: choose a provider that currently exposes Afghanistan or Kabul, connect through its app, and verify the public IP. Proton offers the clearest explanation of a virtual route through London. IceVPN and CometVPN advertise Kabul but leave physical hosting and independent geolocation unestablished in the cited pages. HideMyAss and PureVPN appear in Cloudwards’ September 2026 guide without current official confirmation in the material reviewed. Private Internet Access’ October 2026 published list does not show Afghanistan, though its own article says the app is the most current reference.
No tested measurement establishes Afghan endpoint speed, reliability, privacy behavior, streaming success, banking access, government-service access, or the percentage of addresses that geolocate correctly. Those outcomes must be checked for the provider, endpoint, device, and service you actually use.
