Affinity Studio is now targeted to launch on iPad in November 2026, according to an Affinity mailing reported by AppleInsider on October 14, 2026. No specific launch day has been published. Affinity’s public FAQ still says there is no release date and labels iPadOS as “coming soon,” so November should be treated as a reported release window rather than a guaranteed App Store date.
What is coming to iPad
The new Affinity Studio is a unified creative app from Affinity by Canva. Instead of maintaining separate iPad apps for different jobs, it brings three workspaces into one application:
- Pixel Studio: photo editing and other raster-based work.
- Vector Studio: illustration, logos and vector design.
- Layout Studio: page composition and document-production tasks.
The desktop version already runs on Windows and macOS. The iPad release is the forthcoming platform version. The official download information describes the core app, including its tools, customization and export features, as free. Canva premium is optional and can add Canva AI capabilities, including generative features inside Affinity; it is not required for the core Affinity application.
How certain is the November date?
The strongest current timing claim comes from an Affinity mailing that, according to AppleInsider’s October 14, 2026 report, “pinned November down as the release date.” That wording establishes a month, not a day. There is no confirmed preorder, launch-day announcement or final App Store listing in the available public information.

At the same time, Affinity’s public FAQ says: “We don’t have a release date for the new Affinity on iPad yet, so recommend continuing to run V2 independently while you enjoy the new Affinity on desktop.” The same FAQ describes the platform status as “iPadOS coming soon!” Because the mailing and FAQ have not been brought into alignment, the accurate description is November 2026 target window, exact date unannounced.

What existing Affinity iPad users should do
The current Affinity V2 iPad applications remain available to people who already own them, but Serif says those V2 apps will not receive future updates. They can continue to serve as a short-term production environment while the new app is pending.

File compatibility is the most important limitation. The new desktop Affinity can open files created in V2. The older V2 applications cannot open newer Affinity .af files. If a project must move between desktop and iPad before the unified app arrives, keep that project in a V2-compatible workflow and retain an original copy. Moving the file into the newer format can make it inaccessible in the older iPad software.

- Save a separate copy before opening or converting the project in the new desktop Affinity.
- After the iPad release, test a duplicate file first rather than converting a production original.
- Check Affinity’s release notes and App Store information for the final compatibility rules.
Apple Pencil and iPad hardware questions
Apple Pencil support is a reasonable expectation for Affinity’s iPad workflow, but the new unified app’s final input specification has not been published. The existing Affinity Designer 2 iPad listing documents pressure, tilt and angle sensitivity for Apple Pencil. That is evidence of Pencil support in the current product family, not a complete specification for Affinity Studio.

Do not choose an iPad based on an assumed minimum model, memory capacity or operating-system requirement. None of those final requirements has been announced for the unified app. Screen size, keyboard use, touch controls and Pencil generation may affect comfort, but compatibility should be checked against the official App Store listing when it appears. The same caution applies to buying an “Apple Pencil for iPad”: confirm the Pencil generation and the iPad model together before purchase.

Wait for Affinity Studio
Waiting makes the most sense if you want one application that handles raster editing, vector design and page layout, or if you want to avoid investing in a workflow that may need to be rebuilt after launch. The trade-off is uncertainty about the exact November day and final hardware requirements.

Continue with Affinity V2
V2 is the practical choice for existing owners who need immediate access to established iPad files. Its drawback is that Serif has ended future updates, and V2 cannot open newer .af documents.
Use a separate iPad creative workflow
Another app may be preferable when you need a confirmed installation today, a known Pencil implementation or a specialized feature that has not yet been documented for Affinity Studio. Compare alternatives on release certainty, raster/vector/layout coverage, file interoperability, touch and keyboard ergonomics, and total cost rather than on the November headline alone.

What to check when the app is released
- The exact App Store launch date and supported iPadOS version.
- The minimum iPad model, RAM and available storage.
- Whether all three studios are included at launch and which V2 features have carried over.
- Supported Apple Pencil generations, pressure and tilt behavior, touch gestures and keyboard shortcuts.
- How files move between V2, desktop Affinity and the new iPad application.
- Which Canva AI tools require a premium plan and whether those tools are available in every region.
