Verdict: ADT’s business security offering is a professionally installed and professionally monitored service that can combine intrusion alarms with video surveillance, access control, automation, and app-based management. It can suit a small business that wants one provider to design and monitor a system, but there is no universal package price or equipment list. Your real cost and capabilities depend on the locations, devices, service tier, installation, monitoring, add-ons, and contract in the written quote.
What ADT’s business security system is
ADT sells its small-business security service as a configured bundle rather than a single standardized kit. The company describes systems for businesses ranging from one small operation to organizations with up to 50 employees and multiple locations. A typical deployment can combine intrusion detection, professional monitoring, professional installation, optional business video, access control, automation, and remote management through the ADT Control app.
That structure matters when you compare prices. Two businesses can both ask for “ADT business security” and receive materially different proposals because one may need only door and motion sensors while another needs cameras, controlled doors, environmental sensors, multi-site administration, and longer video retention. ADT’s Business Security Terms and Conditions state: “Service and Installation charges vary depending on system configuration, equipment and services selected.” Treat that sentence as the practical rule for budgeting.

ADT’s solutions material describes three main tiers. The labels describe the intended scope, not a guaranteed bill of materials for every business. Confirm every device, feature, fee, and limitation in the quote.

The presence of a capability on a solutions page does not prove that it is standard in your tier; ask for a line-by-line inclusion list.
AI Deterrence is described as an add-on. ADT says smart video analytics can identify a potential trespasser and use a camera’s built-in speaker to issue a real-time verbal warning. That is a vendor feature description, not independent evidence that the warning prevents intrusions or reduces false alarms.

Intrusion and environmental monitoring
The base service is intended to detect unauthorized entry and send alarm events to a professional monitoring operation. Depending on the design, a quote may also address panic alarms, flood sensors, and high- or low-temperature alerts. Those environmental functions can be important for stockrooms, server areas, restaurants, and other spaces where water or temperature damage may be as costly as theft.

- Whether recording is continuous, event-based, or selectable by camera.
- Retention duration and whether retention differs between cloud and on-site storage.
- Which analytics are enabled, and whether analytics or additional storage create recurring charges.
- How footage is exported for police, insurers, or legal requests.
- Network bandwidth, power requirements, and any local recorder or storage hardware.
- What remains usable if the internet connection or building power fails.
Two-way talk and camera sirens can help staff communicate with visitors or draw attention to activity, but the public material does not establish audio quality, alert latency, uptime, or detection accuracy. Those are subjects for a demonstration and written service terms rather than assumptions based on a feature list.
Access control
ADT’s access-control materials describe mobile credentials, keypads, and card readers. Administrators can receive access-activity alerts, lock or unlock remotely, and manage permission-based access for employees, customers, and vendors. This can centralize door permissions instead of relying on shared keys.
Have the proposal identify each controlled door, the compatible lock or reader hardware, credential type and quantity, schedules, and the process for revoking a departing employee’s access. Clarify recurring credential fees, integration with existing doors, visitor access, audit-log retention, and the local behavior of the lock if internet or power is unavailable. Remote unlocking is a consequential function; limit it to named administrators and document the approval process.
Automation and app controls
ADT says users can remotely control connected climate, lighting, and small-appliance devices, create schedules, view activity and reports, monitor live video, and manage more than one site through the app. App functions require compatible devices. The stated rationale for automation includes reducing energy use, but the available material does not provide measured savings, so treat any savings estimate in a sales proposal as a projection that needs its assumptions shown.
Before deployment, decide who may arm or disarm the system, view cameras, change schedules, unlock doors, or add users. Ask whether permissions are role-based, whether actions are logged, and how an employee’s mobile credential is disabled after a phone or employment is lost.

Do not infer that a lower monthly starting price is cheaper overall. A proposal with more equipment may have a higher installation charge but better coverage, while a low entry price can exclude cameras, controlled doors, storage, or service-plan charges that your operation actually needs.

Early cancellation and service obligations
The Complete promotion states a 36-month monitoring agreement and early-cancellation fees. Read the definition of the fee, the events that permit cancellation, relocation rules, renewal terms, and whether equipment payments continue after monitoring ends. Confirm whether the quality service plan or another maintenance obligation is required for the quoted system.

ADT’s terms make configuration-dependent charges explicit. Keep the signed quote, equipment list, promotional terms, and service agreement together; sales-page language alone is not a substitute for the contract governing your location.
Theft-protection benefit
ADT advertises up to $500 toward an insurance deductible if a burglary occurs while the system is armed, subject to the benefit’s terms. “Up to” is important: it is not an unconditional reimbursement and should not be treated as insurance coverage. Ask what documentation, exclusions, claim deadlines, and arming requirements apply.

The overview advertises a six-month money-back guarantee with conditions. The stated conditions include attempts to resolve a system-related issue and continued payment for both the quality service plan and professional monitoring at activation. Use a live demonstration and the written service-level language to evaluate operational performance. Ask how an alarm is acknowledged, how contacts are reached, how outages are detected, what repair priority applies, and whether incident records are available to you.
Questions to put in your written quote
- Which entrances, rooms, outdoor areas, and sites are covered, and which risks remain outside scope?
- Which intrusion, panic, flood, temperature, video, and response services are included at the quoted tier?
- What are the exact camera models or specifications, recording modes, analytics, retention, storage location, and export process?
- Which doors, readers, credentials, schedules, integrations, and audit logs are included in access control?
- What are the equipment, installation, monitoring, add-on, service-plan, storage, credential, tax, and early-cancellation costs over the complete contract?
- What backup power and connectivity are provided, and what alarms, cameras, locks, and app functions continue during an outage?
- Who owns recordings and access-event data, how long are they retained, and how are administrator permissions managed?
- What repair, replacement, training, and support commitments are written into the agreement?
How to compare ADT with another business-security option
Obtain comparable written proposals before deciding. A self-managed camera setup, a local alarm company, and a professionally monitored multi-site service may have very different responsibilities and costs. Compare the same coverage and contract horizon rather than comparing one provider’s monitoring headline with another provider’s equipment-only price.

The decision should rest on the written scope and five-year—or at least full-contract—cost, including equipment, installation, monitoring, service plans, storage, add-ons, taxes, and cancellation exposure. Verify outage behavior, data access, repair commitments, and the conditions on the theft-protection and money-back benefits before signing. If the proposal answers those questions clearly and covers your actual risks, ADT may be a practical managed-security choice; if it does not, keep comparing until another provider offers a more transparent and operationally suitable quote.
