If you want an image-led space to gather references, generate variations, and shape early visual ideas, Adobe Firefly Boards is the Adobe tool to try. Adobe describes it as an infinite canvas for mood boards, storyboards, and collaborative concept exploration. It is not a universal replacement for Figma, Obsidian Canvas, or Miro: each is aimed at a different kind of work.
What is Adobe Firefly Boards?
Firefly Boards is Adobe’s visual workspace for collecting and exploring creative directions. Adobe says you can bring in images and sketches, search stock imagery, generate assets, and arrange them on a shared canvas. Its product materials also describe remixing, collaboration, presentations, and image and video workflows, with paths into Adobe tools such as Photoshop on the web and Adobe Express for further editing.
That makes Boards most relevant when the work is still exploratory: assembling references, making mood boards or storyboards, and trying visual directions before moving into production. Adobe’s description establishes the intended workflow, not an independent assessment of output quality or performance.
Is Firefly Boards free?
Adobe says people with an Adobe account can access Boards, and its mood-board page describes free use. But free access has limits. Adobe Help, last updated February 2, 2026, says plans without premium features are limited to three boards; plans that include premium features have unlimited boards. Generative features use credits, and premium features—including partner-model image and video generation—require a Creative Cloud subscription that includes premium-feature access. Check the current terms for your region and plan before relying on a specific board allowance, model, or generation volume.

| Tool | What it is positioned for | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Adobe Firefly Boards | AI-assisted moodboarding, visual concept exploration, collaboration, and presentation on an infinite canvas. | You want to collect or generate imagery, remix visual directions, and continue into Adobe creative workflows. |
| Figma | Design work for websites and products. | Your canvas is part of a downstream product or web design workflow, not just a place to collect inspiration. |
| Obsidian Canvas | Visual organization of notes and media in an Obsidian vault. Obsidian says Canvas is free with Obsidian and uses the open JSON Canvas format. | You want a visual surface connected to durable notes and local files. |
| Miro | A collaborative digital whiteboard and infinite canvas with brainstorming features. | Facilitating a live team workshop or whiteboarding session is the main job. Miro’s current Free plan lists three editable boards. |
Product positioning and current plan details come from the vendors: Adobe Firefly Boards, Figma Design, Obsidian Canvas, and Miro’s brainstorming tool. Miro’s board allowance, like Adobe’s, can change with plan terms.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhich tool fits your task?
- Choose Firefly Boards for image-first ideation, mood boards, and visual exploration where generating or remixing assets is central.
- Choose Figma when the visual work is product or website design and needs to continue within a design workflow.
- Choose Obsidian Canvas when your priority is arranging notes and media alongside the knowledge you keep in an Obsidian vault.
- Choose Miro when the central task is a collaborative whiteboard session or team brainstorming.
These tools overlap at the level of placing material on a canvas; that alone does not make their workflows interchangeable. There is no basis here to claim one is categorically better or that using Boards means you can stop using the others.

What to know before relying on Boards
- Board limits and AI credits are separate. Adobe Help gives the three-board limit for plans without premium features, while generative features consume credits.
- Partner models have an additional condition. Adobe says premium features, including partner-model generation, require a Creative Cloud subscription with premium-feature access.
- Capabilities are vendor-described. Adobe presents generation, remixing, collaboration, presentation, and handoff to other Adobe apps as product capabilities; these descriptions are not independent comparative test results.
Adobe’s Firefly product page also publishes a testimonial attributed to Michael Meurer, Global Design Lead: “Adobe Firefly unleashed our creativity. It’s a magic machine that helps us play, explore, and innovate, without compromising speed or safety.” That is Adobe’s own attributed testimonial, not independent evidence of performance.
