“Add a keyboard” can mean changing a Windows typing layout, connecting an external keyboard, or replacing the built-in keyboard. Choose the path that matches your goal: a layout changes how keys are interpreted, a USB keyboard adds external input, and an internal replacement depends on your exact HP model.

Add a keyboard layout in Windows
If you want to type in another language or use a different key arrangement, add a Windows layout rather than buying hardware. HP’s instructions cover the language and keyboard-layout settings, but menu names and steps can differ by Windows version. Use HP’s current keyboard troubleshooting guide for the relevant directions.
A layout changes how Windows interprets keystrokes. It does not physically alter the laptop keyboard or provide keys that are not present on it.
Connect an external keyboard
For a quick way to keep using a laptop whose built-in keyboard is unreliable, connect a USB wired keyboard to an available USB port. HP recommends this as a way to continue using the notebook during keyboard troubleshooting. It is an external workaround, not an installation inside the laptop.

HP’s cited diagnostic guidance says Bluetooth devices are not supported for that keyboard test. That limitation applies to the diagnostic test; it does not establish that Bluetooth keyboards cannot connect to HP laptops in general.
Test the built-in keyboard before arranging repair
Run the Keyboard Test in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to check the built-in keyboard. Treat the result as diagnostic information, not automatic proof that the keyboard assembly must be replaced. If the keyboard remains unusable, use an external keyboard while you identify the right repair path.

Check the exact HP model before replacing hardware
There is no universal internal keyboard upgrade procedure or interchangeable part for all HP laptops. First identify the laptop’s exact product number, then open its HP product-support page and locate the matching maintenance and service guide and replacement-parts information. HP’s support catalog provides documentation for specific products and families, such as the guides for the HP Notebook 15-db0005dx and the HP 15-ac000 Notebook PC series. These examples are not guides for other models.

Use caution with stuck keys
If the notebook is under warranty, HP advises against removing a stuck key and recommends contacting HP for service. Damage caused while removing a key may not be covered. For an out-of-warranty notebook, HP describes a limited cleaning attempt, but warns that not every key is removable and longer keys may use a stabilizing metal rod. Avoid forcing a keycap off when you do not know how it is attached.
