Adaware Antivirus has been discontinued: Adaware Support says it is no longer for sale and no longer receives definition updates. Adaware still promotes a separate Windows download called Adaware Privacy, but its advertised features should not be confused with independently verified antivirus protection.
What happened to Adaware Antivirus?
Adaware Support states that “Adaware Antivirus and all previous software versions have been officially discontinued.” The FAQ, dated December 12, 2025, says the product is no longer available for purchase, definition updates are no longer supported, and downloads and license transfers are no longer supported. That means the legacy Antivirus product should not be treated as a maintained security choice. Without definition updates, it cannot be relied on to keep its malware signatures current.
Can you still download, install, or update Adaware Antivirus?
Adaware’s answers to questions about downloading, reinstalling, activating, purchasing, and updating definitions say the Antivirus product is discontinued. Its support site also retains legacy material, including a standalone installer, Rescue USB, command-line scanner, and removal tool. Their presence does not reverse the discontinuation notice or establish that the software is maintained. Adaware’s legacy Fix my PC resources should not be taken as a recommendation to install old Antivirus software for current protection.

What is Adaware Privacy?
Adaware currently promotes Adaware Privacy as downloadable Windows software. The vendor describes it as offering ad blocking, tracker protection, malicious-site blocking, email leak checks, camera and microphone protection, and website whitelisting. The product page lists breach monitoring for up to five email addresses and VPN access as Pro features. These are Adaware’s feature descriptions, not independent findings about detection, privacy, or performance. See Adaware Privacy’s product page.
The company’s page also describes the suite as including antivirus and PC-performance functions, but the available product description does not establish current independent malware-detection results. Browser and website blocking features are not, by themselves, evidence of comprehensive file and system malware scanning.

What are Adaware Privacy’s system requirements?
Adaware lists Windows support and minimum specifications of a Pentium-class processor, 64 MB of RAM, and 10 MB of storage. The page does not clearly tie those requirements to a software version, so they should not be read as confirmation of compatibility with a particular current Windows release or configuration. Adaware’s product page lists the requirements.
What Adaware’s history does—and does not—tell you
In its press kit, Adaware says the brand was formerly known as Lavasoft and has provided security solutions since 1999. The press kit identifies Adaware as a registered trademark of Avanquest Software. How to assess a current security product
If you are choosing protection for a Windows PC, check whether the product is actively maintained and receiving security updates, and confirm that it covers the threats you care about. A browser-focused blocker may help with ads, trackers, or risky sites, but that is a different scope from scanning files and the system for malware.
- Look for a clear current support and update policy.
- Confirm the supported operating systems and version-specific requirements.
- Distinguish the vendor’s feature claims from independent testing of malware detection, false positives, and system impact.
No current independent detection, false-positive, or performance results are established here, so there is not enough evidence to rank Adaware Privacy against other products.
