The safest beginner loop in the current Acts of Blood demo is simple: start with a short punch or kick string, wait for the nearest enemy to commit, counter the incoming strike when the timing is clear, convert the stagger into a compact combo, then reposition. Dodge attacks that are unsafe to counter—especially the chainsaw boss—and use finishers only after checking that another enemy cannot interrupt you. Pushes, weapons, and rage are there to restore space or create a decisive opening, not to replace readable positioning.
Acts of Blood is a third-person brawler set in the fictional city of Bandapa. This guide covers the playable Steam demo, which includes an apartment hub, a warehouse story stage, and replayable arena modes. Eksil Team has announced a December 4, 2026 Steam launch, so exact frame data and the complete launch moveset may still change.
The three-minute beginner loop
Think of every encounter as a repeating five-part cycle rather than a long button-mashing string:

Use a short punch or kick sequence to test range and attract a manageable number of enemies. Do not commit to a long string while several opponents are already inside striking distance.
- Read the closest threat. Watch for an enemy to begin an attack. Counter only after that commitment is visible; pressing the button continuously turns a timing tool into a gamble.
- Convert the stagger. A successful counter gives you a short punish window. Spend it on a compact combo, a knockdown, or a finisher if the target is isolated and another enemy is not about to hit you.
- Reposition. Move so the remaining enemies stay in front of you. If one opponent is drifting behind your camera, stop attacking and turn or push before continuing.
- Choose safety over style. Dodge attacks that cannot be countered reliably. The demo walkthrough specifically recommends dodging the chainsaw boss rather than trying to counter it, then attacking during a clear opening.
This loop is more reliable than trying to memorize a maximum-damage sequence. The current demo’s patch history improved hit reactions, enemy stagger, boss pacing, enemy waves, artificial intelligence, ranged behavior, and dodge/counter response, so reactions are easier to read than in earlier builds. Treat those timings as demo-current rather than guaranteed launch frame data.

How do I parry in Acts of Blood?
The game uses a counter/parry as a timed punish. Let the enemy begin its attack, press the counter input during the incoming strike, and immediately use the resulting stagger. Holding the button or tapping it randomly will not give you a dependable defense.
Counter timing, step by step
- Face the enemy whose attack you intend to answer. If two opponents overlap, create space first with movement or the push action.
- Watch the attack start rather than the enemy’s idle animation. The useful cue is the commitment into the strike.
- Press counter as the blow arrives. A successful timing produces a stagger; do not wait through the entire animation and expect a punish window to remain open.
- Use a short punch or kick combo, or a finisher on a staggered or downed target.
- Release the engagement and re-establish a position where the next attacker is visible.
When a counter appears not to work
First check the demo build and your bindings. The official v0.9.7 notes (April 5, 2026) record a fix for an unresponsive counter button. Older demo input behavior could also conflict with weapon pickup when counter/parry was assigned to right-click. If a prop will not equip, assign interaction to a separate input instead of sharing the counter binding.
There is no authoritative published frame-data table for the demo. That means you should learn the visual commitment of each enemy instead of relying on a universal number of invulnerability or active frames.
When should you dodge instead of counter?
Dodge when an attack is unsafe to answer, when several enemies are collapsing on your position, or when leaving the attack lane gives you a better punish angle. The objective is not merely to retreat; it is to leave the threat’s path and emerge where the enemy cannot immediately surround you.
Dodge through space, not blindly backward
- Use a lateral or forward escape when there is room to pass the attacker. This can put you beside or behind the target for a safer follow-up.
- Avoid backing into the crowd. Retreating without checking the arena edge often trades one attacker for three.
- Turn the camera after the dodge. Your next decision depends on knowing whether a second opponent is already in range.
- Return to offense only after the threat finishes. A dodge is successful when it creates a readable opening, not when it merely postpones the same problem.
The chainsaw boss rule
For the chainsaw boss in the current demo walkthrough, dodge rather than counter. Punish only during a clearly safe opening after the chainsaw attack has ended. Do not generalize that instruction to every boss or assume the full game’s bosses will share the same timing; the available evidence establishes this specific demo encounter.

What is the best beginner combo?
There is no officially published best damage string or complete launch combo chart. For a first run, the best combo is the shortest sequence that reliably converts a stagger without trapping you in an animation while another enemy is active.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Use two combo families
- Punch strings: use them as your default close-range conversion after a counter. They are quick to start and easy to stop when the next attacker approaches.
- Kick strings: switch to kicks when you need a different rhythm or height and when a repeated punch pattern is being dodged.
- Finishers: reserve them for a staggered or downed target after a quick safety scan. They are powerful commitments, not neutral defensive actions.
Practice both families in the apartment hub and in low-pressure arena waves. The official v0.9.7 notes added two punch combo-set moves, one kick combo-set move, new finisher moves, and experimental cinematic finishers. Those additions make variety useful, but they do not remove the need to stop a string when the crowd closes in.
A safe conversion pattern
- Counter the committed attack.
- Use a short punch string and stop before the animation becomes a liability.
- If the target falls or remains staggered, use a finisher only when the other enemies are outside immediate reach.
- After the hit, turn toward the group instead of chasing a distant target.
If an opponent dodges the same sequence repeatedly, change rhythm or switch from punches to kicks. Repeating one long string teaches the enemy’s movement pattern and leaves you committed when the attack misses.
How do I control crowds in Acts of Blood?
Crowd control starts with geometry. Keep enemies in one readable lane, stop anyone from getting behind the camera, and interrupt the most dangerous threat before returning to hand-to-hand combat.
Rank #3
- Versatile compatibility: supports Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One X/S consoles and PC Win10 and above (including the game platform Steam).

- Plug and Play Convenience: Wired USB connection (removable) for easy setup and instant play without the need for additional drivers.
- Customizable experience: Includes 2 custom backbuttons that allow users to eliminate false triggers and improve their gaming experience.
- Impressive gameplay: Provides a pulsating vibration trigger and an asymmetric vibration grip motor for intense tactile feedback.
Use the push action to open a lane
The official notes add a push action mapped to Q on keyboard or left stick on a controller. Push when two or more enemies are compressing your space, when a rusher is about to flank you, or when you need a clear line to a ranged attacker. Once the lane opens, face the most immediate threat and keep the group in front of you.
Prioritize targets by danger
- Ranged enemies: interrupt or disable the shooter so you are not countering a melee strike while projectiles arrive from off-screen.
- Rushers and grapplers: stop the enemy that can force you into a crowd or pin you in place.
- Nearest committed attacker: if no special threat is active, counter the enemy whose strike is already beginning.
- Isolated staggered target: convert it only after the group is stable enough to allow the animation.
Weapons and environmental objects
In arena waves, a weapon or environmental object can interrupt a ranged enemy or rusher and provide stopping power. Use it to break the firing line, then return to hand-to-hand combat when the group is readable again. Public notes do not establish final weapon classes, ammunition counts, reload timing, or durability, so do not build a permanent weapon-economy strategy around the demo.
Do not spend a long finisher while another enemy is active unless the animation is clearly safe. A downed target is not worth trading your own health for an uninterrupted cinematic.
Rage: when to spend the resource
The demo walkthrough describes rage as a burst-damage resource that fills while you maintain a hit chain. Because it is earned through continued offense, do not spend it automatically at the first available charge.
Good rage windows
- An elite enemy that will otherwise take several risky exchanges.
- A gunner problem where burst damage can remove the shooter before more projectiles arrive.
- A boss punish window that is clearly open after the boss finishes an unsafe attack.
Weak rage windows
- A fight that is already won by a normal stagger and short combo.
- A crowded position where activating a long animation leaves other enemies behind you.
- An uncertain boss opening, especially during the chainsaw encounter where the demo’s rule is to dodge first.
Rage is therefore a timing resource, not a panic button. Maintain the chain only while you can still see the threats; breaking contact to survive is preferable to losing health for a charge you cannot safely convert.

Where do I spend skill points?
Spend skill points in the apartment hub between outings. The v0.9.5 official notes moved the skill tree to the hub, so do not search for an upgrade screen during a mission.
A practical first-demo order
- Survivability or health: gives you more room to learn counter and dodge timing without ending a run after one mistake.
- Attack speed or reliable combo options: makes the counter-to-combo conversion easier and shortens the time you remain committed.
- Additional finishers: add damage and variety once your basic defense and positioning are dependable.
This is a practical beginner order, not an official optimal build. If you are already consistently surviving but failing to finish elites, move an attack or finisher upgrade earlier. If crowds are the problem, keep survivability ahead of damage until you can reliably push, turn, and regain a clear lane.
What changed in the current demo?
Patch context matters because older videos can show different timing, stagger behavior, or available moves.
| Build | Date | Changes relevant to combat |
|---|---|---|
| v0.9.5 | December 27, 2025 | Added two arena levels; made attacks feel heavier; allowed brute grapples to be escaped with repeated counter presses; improved hit reactions, enemy stagger, boss pacing and phase transitions, enemy waves, artificial intelligence, ranged behavior, and dodge/counter response; moved the skill tree to the hub. |
| v0.9.7 | April 5, 2026 | Added new and improved cinematic finishers, new finisher moves, two punch combo-set moves, one kick combo-set move, an elite enemy, a more grounded combat feel, a counter-button fix, and an additional enemy-spawn fix. |
If a guide recorded before these versions tells you that the skill tree is mission-based, that counters are unresponsive, or that a particular combo is unavailable, its instructions may describe an older build.
Brutes, grapples, ranged enemies, and elites
Brute grapples
The v0.9.5 notes state that brute grapples can be escaped with repeated counter presses. This is a specific escape behavior, not permission to mash counter during ordinary attacks. Save the repeated presses for the grapple state, then return to deliberate timing once you are free.

- Multi-Platform PC Gaming Controller: Working with Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices via Bluetooth, wired, and wireless dongle connections.
- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
Ranged enemies
Ranged enemies change the order of operations. Break the firing line with a push, weapon, or environmental object, or close the distance while keeping the shooter visible. A melee counter is much less valuable if a second enemy can shoot during the recovery.
Elite enemies
The v0.9.7 demo update adds an elite enemy. Treat an elite as a reason to improve target priority and rage timing rather than as proof that a single combo is mandatory. Separate it from the group, counter only attacks you can read, and spend rage when the resulting opening is secure.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Arena-wave plan
- At the wave start, locate ranged threats and exits. Know where you can dodge before the screen fills.
- Keep the group together in front of you. Use the push action early, before a flank forms.
- Interrupt the shooter or rusher. A weapon or object is worthwhile if it restores a readable melee exchange.
- Counter one committed attacker. Convert with a short string; do not chase a target across the arena while the wave remains active.
- Use a finisher only on a safe isolation. If another enemy is active, continue with short attacks or reposition instead.
- Spend rage on the problem target. Elite, gunner, and boss windows have more value than ordinary enemies already near defeat.
Arena repetition is useful practice because it lets you isolate one skill at a time: first camera control, then push timing, then counter conversion, and finally rage management.

Common mistakes and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| You counter constantly and still get hit. | The counter is being used as a button to hold rather than a response to an attack commitment. | Wait for the strike to begin, then press once during the incoming hit. |
| A finisher starts and another enemy interrupts it. | You converted damage before checking the rest of the crowd. | Push or reposition first; finish only when the target is isolated or the animation is clearly safe. |
| You keep getting surrounded after a successful combo. | The camera and body position were left facing one target while others moved behind you. | Stop the string early, turn toward the group, and keep enemies in one lane. |
| The chainsaw boss punishes every counter attempt. | The demo encounter is designed around dodging the chainsaw attack. | Dodge the attack and punish only during the safe opening afterward. |
| A weapon will not pick up when counter is bound to right-click. | Older demo input behavior can conflict with the interaction action. | Assign interaction to a separate binding and verify the current build. |
| A grapple will not release with one counter press. | The brute escape behavior requires repeated counter presses. | Press counter repeatedly during the brute grapple state, then resume normal timing. |
| A long punch string is repeatedly dodged. | The opponent has learned the repeated rhythm or the string is mismatched to range. | Stop earlier and switch between punch and kick families. |
How the main play styles compare
| Play style | Safety | Space control | Damage conversion | Resource and upgrade dependence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Counter-first | High when attacks are readable; poor against unsafe or unusual attacks. | Limited unless followed by movement or a push. | Short combo or finisher after a stagger. | Benefits from survivability and reliable combo upgrades. |
| Dodge-first | Strong against attacks you cannot safely counter, including the demo chainsaw boss rule. | Good when the dodge passes through or beside a threat; weak if it retreats into a crowd. | Requires a punish angle after the dodge. | Depends more on positioning practice than on a specific move. |
| Push-and-reset | Safe when a crowd is closing, provided you do not wait too long. | Best direct lane-opening tool; keeps enemies in front. | Lower immediate damage, but improves the safety of the next combo. | Works with the current push action; no special build is required. |
| Weapon-assisted | Useful for interrupting ranged enemies or rushers. | Can break a firing line or stop a dangerous target. | Stopping power varies by object; final classes and ammunition rules are not established. | Do not assume a finalized weapon economy from the demo. |
| Rage burst | Risky if activated in a crowded or uncertain position. | Does not replace positioning. | Highest value against elites, gunners, or a boss punish window. | Requires maintaining a hit chain to fill the resource. |
What is confirmed, and what may change at launch?
The confirmed playable evidence is the Steam demo: an apartment hub, a warehouse story stage, and replayable arena modes. Official patch notes establish the combat and progression changes listed above. Eksil Team announced that Acts of Blood launches on Steam on December 4, 2026, with Big Fan Games publishing alongside the studio.
Do not treat the following as finalized until launch documentation confirms them:
- Exact parry, counter, and dodge frame counts.
- A complete launch combo chart or a universally optimal damage string.
- Final weapon categories, ammunition, reload timing, or durability.
- Whether every boss follows the chainsaw boss’s dodge-first rule.
- Whether demo balance, enemy behavior, or skill costs remain unchanged.
No independently published gameplay statistic is established in the available material. The practical recommendations in this guide are therefore based on the current demo’s observed loop and official patch notes, not on a benchmark or laboratory measurement.
Quick Recap
Five rules to remember on your first run
- Counter after an enemy commits; never mash counter as a permanent shield.
- Dodge attacks that are unsafe to counter, especially the demo’s chainsaw boss.
- Use short punch and kick strings, then finish staggered targets only after a safety scan.
- Push to open a lane and keep the crowd in front of you.
- Spend skill points in the apartment hub, and expect timings or move availability to change before the December 4, 2026 launch.
