Activision’s “all in” comment describes an active Nintendo partnership—not merely a one-off port. The companies have launched a co-marketing campaign around Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Nintendo is using a mainstream first-person shooter to broaden its platform’s audience, and the game is scheduled to launch natively on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 23, 2026.
What Activision means by “all in”
Tyler Bahl, Activision’s chief marketing officer, said the company is “rebuilding this relationship” with Nintendo. He pointed to a co-marketing campaign already launched with Nintendo and described the partnership as broader than a single release.
Bahl said Nintendo “has been all in,” meaning Nintendo is actively cooperating on the game’s return, promotion and longer-term platform strategy. He also suggested that the relationship could expand to other Activision properties, mentioning potential future titles such as Spyro. That is an indication of interest, not a confirmed Spyro announcement.

Bahl characterized Nintendo’s stated strategy as reaching a broader spectrum of players by adding a first-person shooter. In this context, “age up their customer” is an executive description of audience expansion: Nintendo wants its platform to appeal not only to its traditional family-oriented and younger audiences, but also to older players who already play major shooter franchises.

Is the Switch 2 version being developed natively?
GamesRadar reports that Infinity Ward and Digital Legends are developing the Switch 2 edition natively rather than treating it as a simple conversion of an older-console build. Infinity Ward co-studio head Jack O’Hara described development as “smooth” and said, “Things just work.”

Native development matters because it allows the team to target Switch 2 hardware directly, instead of carrying forward the constraints of PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. It does not by itself guarantee identical resolution, frame rate or visual settings across systems; those technical specifications had not been established in the cited reports.
Will Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 support crossplay?
O’Hara said crossplay is currently supported between Switch 2 and the other platforms. He added a qualification: “But we’ll see at launch exactly where the mix ends up.” That means crossplay is an announced development feature, while the final participating-platform mix could still change before October 23.

Why Call of Duty is returning after the Wii U era
The last Call of Duty release on Nintendo hardware was Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wii U in 2013, according to GamesRadar’s historical account. The long gap ended after a 10-year agreement involving Microsoft, Nintendo and Activision.

GamesRadar reported that the agreement secured Call of Duty releases on Nintendo platforms and required “full feature and content parity” with other versions. The commitment formed part of the regulatory path for Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. That contractual context helps explain why the Switch 2 release is being positioned as a full product with campaign, multiplayer and DMZ, rather than a reduced spin-off.
Activision’s “companion experience” idea
Bahl framed Switch 2 ownership as complementary to playing on another system. He gave the example of carrying his Switch 2 while traveling and playing Modern Warfare 4 in transit. The intended value is portability: a player can use the Nintendo version away from a television while remaining part of the wider Call of Duty ecosystem.
This positioning also explains why Activision emphasizes a native build and crossplay. The Switch 2 edition is meant to stand alongside other current-generation versions, not necessarily replace them for players who prioritize the highest-end graphics or a fixed-console setup.
