Yes, some Ace Hardware stores rent tools, but rental service is decided at the individual store level. Ace listings show locations advertising Tool Rental, Small Tool Rental, or Rental Equipment. Those examples do not establish that every Ace store rents tools, stocks the same equipment, or uses the same rental terms. To find out whether you can rent a particular tool, use the official store locator, open the page for your nearest store, and then call to confirm live availability and conditions.
What the answer means for your project
Ace Hardware is a network of locally operated stores, and services are tailored to the communities each store serves. A store may have a dedicated rental department, a smaller selection of hand tools, or no rental operation at all. Even when two stores advertise rentals, their inventories and policies can differ.
The practical answer is therefore conditional: Ace Hardware does rent tools at some locations, but you cannot assume that your local store rents the tool you need. A listing that mentions a rental department is evidence that the store offers some rental service; it is not a promise that a specific saw, auger, ladder, trailer, or other item is available on your project date.

How to check your nearest Ace store
- Open the Ace store locator. Search by city, state, or ZIP code. The locator provides filters for services and departments, which can narrow the results to stores advertising rental-related services.
- Choose the exact store. Do not stop at the search-results label. Open the store’s individual page and read the departments or services section. Look for wording such as Tool Rental, Small Tool Rental, Rental Equipment, or Rental Department.
- Confirm that the listing is current. Store pages and service menus can change. Treat the listing as a lead to the right location, not as a real-time inventory system.
- Call before traveling. Ask whether the exact tool is in stock, whether it is reserved for your date, and what you must bring for pickup. The store’s phone number is normally shown on its local page.
Ace’s customer-service information also directs shoppers to local store details, so the local store is the appropriate place to verify a rental rather than relying on a chain-wide assumption.

Questions to ask when you call
Have the tool name, size, model type, and intended dates ready. Rental staff can then check the correct item instead of giving a general answer about a category. Use this checklist:
- Exact equipment: Does the store rent the specific tool, and are the required blades, bits, hoses, batteries, chargers, or other accessories included?
- Availability: Is one available for the pickup date and time you need? Can the store hold or reserve it?
- Rental period: What are the available hourly, daily, overnight, weekend, or longer periods, if offered?
- Total cost: What is the rental charge, and are there taxes, cleaning charges, fuel charges, or accessory fees?
- Deposit and payment: Is a refundable deposit required, and which payment methods are accepted?
- Identification: Which identity or account documents must the renter present at pickup?
- Pickup and return: What time can you collect the tool, where do you return it, and does it need to be cleaned, refueled, or recharged?
- Operating requirements: Are there instructions, training requirements, vehicle-size limits, or a minimum age for the equipment?
- Damage and late-return rules: What happens if the tool is returned late, damaged, or with a missing accessory?
The reviewed Ace pages do not publish a universal catalog or chain-wide answers to these questions. Ask the store to state the terms for the item you are actually booking.

| Store | Location | Rental wording shown on the listing | Contact detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moore’s Ace Hardware | 10126 West Indiantown Road, Jupiter, Florida 33478 | Tool Rental; the page describes a comprehensive rental department providing access to specialized tools | (561) 935-5548; verify the current number before relying on it |
| Pacific Grove Hardware | Pacific Grove, California | Small Tool Rental | Use the current local listing for contact details |
| Big Tool Box | Centennial, Colorado | Rental Equipment and a Rental Department | Use the current local listing for contact details |
The different labels are meaningful. Small Tool Rental may indicate a narrower selection than a store advertising a full rental-equipment division, but the wording alone does not tell you which models or categories are on the shelf. Only the local staff can confirm the item and date.

Why Ace rental service varies by store
Ace states on a store page that its stores are independently owned and tailored to local communities. That structure helps explain why one location can invest in a substantial rental department while another focuses on retail sales and does not rent equipment. Local demand, floor space, staffing, maintenance capability, and the types of projects common in the area can all influence the service a store chooses to provide.
Because of this variation, a positive answer from one city cannot be transferred to another city. It is also possible for a store’s inventory or service label to change after a page was published. Check the individual page and call for the current situation each time you plan a rental.
What Ace’s published pages do not establish
The available store listings demonstrate that rental services exist, but they do not establish standardized terms across the Ace network. There is no supported chain-wide rental price, common rental period, universal deposit amount, identification rule, or single equipment list to quote. Do not budget or schedule a project using a policy from another location.
For example, a store may quote a daily rate for one tool while another location prices a similar item differently or offers only a shorter period. A deposit may depend on the equipment and the store’s policy. Accessories that are included at one location might be separate at another. Ask for the complete out-the-door amount and the return conditions before agreeing to the rental.

Plan the rental around your work
Measure and identify the job first
Describe the material, dimensions, access constraints, and power source when you call. A tool that sounds right by name may be unsuitable for the thickness of the material or the space where you will use it. If the staff recommends a different size or attachment, record the exact model or specification so you can confirm compatibility.
Allow time for pickup and setup
Rental time is not the same as productive operating time. Include the time needed to inspect the equipment, receive instructions, load it safely, transport it, assemble accessories, and clean it before return. If your work can run long, ask what extension options exist before you pick up the tool rather than assuming an automatic renewal.
Inspect the tool at pickup
With the staff present, check the body, cords, guards, switches, wheels, hoses, batteries, and listed accessories. Ask the store to note existing wear or damage on the rental record. Confirm that the tool starts and that any safety devices are present. This protects both sides when the equipment is returned.
Prepare for transport and storage
Confirm the tool’s size and weight, whether it must remain upright, and whether your vehicle can secure it. Keep loose accessories together and protect the equipment from rain, mud, and excessive heat. The store can tell you about transport requirements for that particular item.

Return it exactly as agreed
Return the complete kit by the stated deadline and follow the store’s cleaning, refueling, or recharging instructions. Request a receipt or confirmation that the return was processed and ask when any refundable deposit will be released. If a problem occurs during use, stop operating the tool and call the store for direction instead of attempting an unapproved repair.

If you are checking several nearby stores, compare the same details for each one. A lower advertised rate may not be cheaper after deposits, accessories, delivery, fuel, or extra days are included. Record the answers in a note or spreadsheet:
- Exact tool, model class, and accessories included.
- Confirmed availability for your dates and the reservation or hold policy.
- Rental period and the charge for extending it.
- Total price, taxes, deposit, and accepted payment method.
- Identification, age, account, or other pickup requirements.
- Pickup location, loading help, delivery options, and return deadline.
- Cleaning, fuel, charging, damage, loss, and late-return terms.
This comparison method works even when the stores use different service labels. It also prevents a common mistake: treating the word rental on a locator page as proof that the same equipment and price are available everywhere.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf your local store does not rent the tool
Ask whether the store knows of another nearby Ace location with a rental department, but verify that referral yourself. You can also contact an independent equipment-rental business or a specialty supplier that carries the required category. Compare the options using the same checklist above, especially the total cost and return rules.
Buying may make sense if you expect repeated use, but the rental question should be settled first. The available Ace information does not verify a chain-wide purchasing discount, affiliate offer, or product recommendation, so choose any purchase based on your own project requirements rather than assuming a rental substitute is stocked.
Bottom line
Ace Hardware does rent tools at some stores, including locations in Florida, California, and Colorado that advertise different forms of rental service. Whether your local Ace rents the tool you need can only be confirmed at the store level. Search the official locator, inspect the individual store’s departments, and call to verify the exact equipment, live availability, price, deposit, rental period, and pickup and return rules before you make the trip.
