If your hosting plan already includes cPanel, you can usually log in without buying a separate cPanel license: use the login link and credentials from your hosting provider. If you control your own server, cPanel offers a 15-day trial license for a new cPanel & WHM installation—but it is not free hosting or a free ongoing license. A demo account lets you explore the interface, but not make changes.
Which free cPanel option fits your situation?
| Route | What you need | What you can do | Duration or cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Log in through your hosting provider | An existing hosting account with cPanel access and the credentials or external sign-in method the provider enabled | Manage the website features available in your account | Depends on your hosting plan; cPanel access is not necessarily a separate purchase |
| Install the cPanel & WHM trial | A server you control, root access, a supported Linux distribution, and compliance with system requirements | Install and manage cPanel & WHM on that server | 15-day trial license; hosting and continued licensing are separate |
| Explore a demo account | A demo account enabled by a cPanel & WHM administrator | Explore the interface, but not change files or settings | Not stated in cPanel’s demo-account documentation |
These options are not interchangeable. For most people trying to manage an existing site, the provider login is the relevant route. The trial is for a new installation on a server you manage; the demo is for interface exploration.
How do I log in to cPanel?
- Find your provider’s login route. Check your hosting welcome email, customer portal, or support documentation for a cPanel link. Providers may also enable an external authentication method, so follow the sign-in instructions they gave you.
- Open the secure cPanel address. The direct service URL uses port 2083, for example
https://example.com:2083orhttps://198.51.100.1:2083. These are illustrative addresses. Use HTTPS, not an unencrypted login URL. cPanel documents these login methods in its account and server login guide and its service URL documentation. - Enter the account credentials. Use the cPanel username and password supplied or configured by your hosting provider. If the provider uses external authentication, sign in through that linked method instead.
- If the domain address fails, try the server address. DNS changes may take time to propagate. Your provider can confirm the correct server hostname or IP address.
Do not confuse cPanel with the other server interfaces: cPanel’s secure port is 2083, WHM’s is 2087, and Webmail’s is 2096. The same guide documents those separate login addresses.

What to do if you cannot get into your account
- Forgot the password? Use the hosting provider’s password-reset process. If that is unavailable, contact its support team rather than sending your password in a comment or public message.
- Do not know the username or host? Check the provider’s welcome email and customer portal. cPanel documents a process for identifying your hosting provider if you cannot determine who runs the account.
- Cannot reach the login page? Check that you are using the provider’s correct domain or server address and the secure cPanel port, 2083. Ask the provider whether the server is available and whether it permits access from your network.
- Need hosting resources, server help, or billing support? Contact the hosting company. cPanel’s documentation explains that “WebPros International, LLC does not own and cannot access the server that stores your website’s information.”
Can I get cPanel for free on my own server?
cPanel offers a free 15-day trial license for a new cPanel & WHM installation. It is a license trial, not a hosting plan: you still need a server, and continued use after the trial requires a paid license. cPanel states that “cPanel licenses do not include hosting.” See its products information and trial-license instructions.

Trial prerequisites
The current trial documentation lists AlmaLinux, Ubuntu, or CloudLinux as supported operating-system options and requires root access and compliance with the minimum system requirements. A typical public website setup also involves a domain and nameserver configuration, although cPanel can be installed and managed using an IP address or hostname. Check the current installation requirements before choosing a server; supported configurations can change.
What happens after the trial?
The trial lasts 15 days. It does not convert into free ongoing use, and it does not pay for the server or other hosting services. If you plan to keep using a self-managed installation, you will need an appropriate paid license in addition to hosting.
What does a standalone cPanel license cost?
As listed on cPanel’s official pricing page accessed October 7, 2026, the monthly direct-store prices below are license costs, not hosting costs. cPanel says direct-store monthly licenses require the server’s public-facing static IP. Prices and plan details can change, so check the current cPanel pricing page before purchasing.

| Pro | $53.99/month | Up to 30 accounts |
| Premier | $69.99/month | Up to 100 accounts; additional Premier accounts are charged separately |
For readers comparing plans, cPanel’s 2026 Store License Pricing article states that each Premier account above 100 costs $0.49 per month at prices effective December 16, 2025. Verify the current amount and terms with cPanel before relying on it.

Is a cPanel demo a free hosting account?
No. A cPanel & WHM administrator can enable demo mode for an account so visitors can explore the interface, but demo users cannot change files or settings. It is a preview, not a personal hosting account or a way to manage a live website. The administrator setup is described in cPanel’s demo cPanel account guide.
