Abelina is a surreal, hand-crafted adventure platformer from solo developer Gabe Askew and publisher Indieformer. It is planned for release on Windows PC through Steam in Q1 2027, with a public demo planned for November 2026. The game replaces combat with climbing, jumping, route-finding, exploration and conversations in a strange afterlife.
Abelina Steam release date and demo
Steam currently lists Abelina as “not yet available” with a planned Q1 2027 release for Windows PC. No exact launch day, price or physical edition has been announced. A contemporaneous announcement says a public demo is planned for November 2026, although its final contents and availability details have not been specified. What kind of game is Abelina?
Abelina is an afterlife adventure built around traversal rather than fighting. Steam describes a world where “There is no combat, instead you explore a vast world and a mature story about carrying life’s baggage into the afterlife.” Nothing encountered can be fought, so progression depends on movement, observation and decisions about which route to take.

Traversal replaces combat
Players climb, jump and choose paths through terrain that becomes more demanding the farther they travel from camp. Routes branch, dead-end and sometimes offer alternatives when a passage is sealed. The challenge is reading the environment and executing movement, not defeating enemies or improving a weapon loadout.
Exploration and resource interactions
The developer’s site describes gathering resources through timed interactions, including timed hits used to break open gourds. These activities add a light skill check to exploration without turning the game into a combat system. The official site presents the setting as “neither heaven nor hell, but … a primitive new world.”

Story: Vasily’s life after death
The player follows Vasily, who has been dead for some time and wakes in Abelina, an unfamiliar settlement in the afterlife. A small community of other after-lifers tends gardens, carves masks and largely avoids confronting what their world means. After a tragedy, Vasily leaves for the wilderness frontier.
Companions who were left behind gradually catch up at campfires. Those meetings create a conversational structure in which memory, purpose and unresolved personal history emerge through the people Vasily encounters. The story therefore treats the afterlife as a place where characters still carry the consequences of their former lives, rather than as a simple reward or punishment realm.

World, creatures and visual style
Abelina uses hand-crafted surreal environments instead of realistic scenery. Lantern-like plants hang overhead, coral-like pools glow from below, and some groves appear to illuminate themselves with their own flora. The contrast between beautiful biomes and unsettling subject matter supports the game’s atmospheric, darkly humorous tone.

- Phosphorescent goats
- Giant beetles that can be ridden
These creatures are part of the setting and traversal identity, not a list of combat targets. SteamDB’s metadata categorizes the project with adventure, 3D platformer, exploration, atmospheric, dark fantasy, dark humor, mythology and nature tags; those labels describe its intended presentation rather than confirmed launch features. Who is making Abelina?
Gabe Askew is credited as the solo developer and is identified as a CG-animation veteran. Indieformer is the publisher, while Ryan Holladay is credited for music and sound. The official press kit calls Abelina “a hand-crafted afterlife adventure” in which “You died, and you woke up in a strange world you’re only beginning to understand.” Production and credit information is available in the official press kit and on Gabe Askew’s site.

What has not been announced
Official materials currently identify only a digital PC Steam release. There is no announced price, boxed edition, soundtrack product, guide or art book, merchandise, or collectible. There is also no confirmed console version. Treat any retailer listing or physical-product claim that appears before an official announcement as unverified.

What to expect from the November 2026 demo
The planned demo should provide the first public hands-on look at Abelina, but its scope, supported languages, save behavior and distribution details have not been published. The reliable information at present is the planned month—November 2026—not a guaranteed date or a promise that the demo will represent every system in the final game.
