A phone workflow can turn a photographed college notice into searchable text, possible deadlines, and reminders—but OCR and deadline interpretation are separate steps. On-device OCR can recognize text without sending the image to a server; a student should still verify each proposed date and the action attached to it before relying on a reminder.
What Aakhri Tareekh does—and what it cannot promise
“Aakhri Tareekh” means a final date or deadline. The idea is an offline-first assistant that helps students capture college notices, find dates, and create reminders. A practical flow is capture or import, recognize the printed text, flag candidate deadlines, review and correct them, then save a reminder. A PrintSummary overview describes photographing or importing school handouts, organizing them with OCR, tracking deadlines, and setting local reminders: PrintSummary overview.
That workflow is a product example, not evidence that any app reliably understands every college notice. The available sources provide no measured accuracy rate or validated benchmark for extracting deadlines from college notices. Treat a suggested deadline as a draft, not an authoritative reading.

OCR and deadline extraction are different jobs
OCR turns visible marks into text
Optical character recognition (OCR) reads characters from an image—for example, turning a photographed line into searchable text. Apple’s Vision framework supports text recognition on-device, including offline use cases. Apple states: “In all cases, all of Vision’s processing happens on the user’s device to enhance performance and user privacy.” See Apple’s Vision text-recognition documentation.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Deadline extraction interprets the text
A later step must decide whether a recognized date is actually a deadline and what it applies to. A notice might contain several dates, such as an event date and a form-submission date; context determines which one should trigger a reminder. OCR can also misread a character, while interpretation can select the wrong date or miss a condition. These are possible failure modes, not quantified results from the cited sources.
For that reason, a useful interface should show the candidate date alongside the notice text that supports it, let the student correct it, and ask for confirmation of the action and reminder time. Do not assume that because OCR ran on-device, every later interpretation also did.

How to make a notice searchable and actionable
- Capture or import the notice. Photograph the page or choose an existing image in an app that supports importing.
- Run OCR. The app converts the visible writing into text. Check the recognized text against the image, especially dates, times, and punctuation.
- Review proposed deadlines. Confirm the date, the required action, and any condition such as a submission method or cutoff time. If the app cannot show the source wording, read the notice directly before proceeding.
- Create the reminder. Choose when to be reminded, then confirm the saved date and reminder in the app or calendar where it will appear.
- Keep the notice available. Retain the original image or document so you can check the wording if the requirement changes or a reminder seems unclear.
PrintSummary describes OCR organization, deadline tracking, and local reminders in its overview. Those listed features illustrate the workflow; they do not establish an accuracy guarantee for other apps or for every notice.
What “offline” means for privacy
Offline processing means the relevant operation can run without sending the document to a remote service. Check separately where the original image, recognized text, and any extracted deadline are processed and stored. An app may perform OCR locally but use a network service for another feature, so “on-device OCR” alone does not settle the privacy question for the entire workflow.

PrintSummary’s privacy policy says images and OCR text remain on the device and are not sent to external APIs. It also says users can choose to share a JSON backup. These are claims about that product, not a general guarantee about OCR apps; read the app’s own policy and settings: PrintSummary Privacy Policy.
Cloud document services are a different model. Google Cloud’s Enterprise Document OCR describes text and layout extraction, with options including language detection, image-quality assessment, and rotation correction: Google Cloud Enterprise Document OCR. Microsoft describes prebuilt document processing that combines OCR with deep learning to extract predefined fields from supported document types: Microsoft’s prebuilt document processing overview. These services are useful examples of document processing, but their cited descriptions do not establish offline operation.

How to evaluate an app for college notices
- Offline capability: Can OCR and any date interpretation you intend to use work without a network connection? Test the actual workflow rather than assuming all features share the same processing location.
- Data handling: Where are images and extracted text stored? Are they transmitted to a service, and can the app export or share them?
- Language and layout support: Does it handle the languages and page formats on your notices? Apple documents on-device text recognition; Google documents additional OCR features, but these examples are not a head-to-head comparison or proof of support in a particular phone app.
- Review and correction: Can you inspect the recognized text and the wording behind a proposed deadline? Can you fix a misread date before creating a reminder?
- Reminder control: Can you verify the saved deadline, action, and alert time after creation?
When OCR or deadline extraction looks wrong
PrintSummary’s support page uses the phrase “OCR or deadline extraction looks inaccurate” and recommends bright lighting, holding the camera parallel to the page, and rerunning OCR: PrintSummary Support.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- If the text itself is wrong, retake the photo in bright light with the phone parallel to the paper, then rerun OCR where the app supports it.
- If the text is right but the deadline is wrong, inspect the surrounding sentence and correct the proposed date or action. That is an interpretation problem, not necessarily a camera or OCR problem.
- If the notice remains ambiguous, do not rely on an automated reminder as the sole source. Check the original notice or ask the issuing office to clarify the requirement.
The support guidance does not quantify how much these adjustments improve results. Nor do the cited sources establish a rate for missed deadlines or a validated accuracy figure for an offline college-notice extractor.
