For the Sony A7S II (ILCE-7SM2), Sony’s sensor-cleaning procedure calls for a camera blower, not a brush. Use a plain manual blower gently to dislodge loose dust without touching the sensor. Save a cleaning brush for the camera body and lens; if dust remains after blower cleaning, Sony advises contacting a service facility.
Does the Sony A7S II need a sensor brush?
No. Sony’s A7S II Help Guide describes blowing dust from on and around the sensor surface, without touching it. Sony’s broader sensor-cleaning guidance assigns brushes to the camera exterior and lens, while recommending a blower for the sensor area. A brush should not be swept across the A7S II’s sensor.
So, if you are choosing between a sensor brush and a blower for loose dust, the blower is the manufacturer-supported first choice. Sony does not identify a particular brand or model as tested or endorsed.

Choose a plain manual camera blower
Sony says a blower is not supplied with the A7S II and specifies a commercially available camera-cleaning blower. Its general camera-care guidance prefers a plain hand-squeezed blower over a brush blower for this task. Use gentle air rather than forceful bursts.

Avoid spray-type blowers: Sony warns that they may scatter water droplets inside the camera. If you have a brush blower with a removable brush and intend to use it as a blower, Sony’s general guidance says to remove the brush first so dust on it is not blown toward the camera.
Keep brushes for the exterior and lens
Sony’s camera-cleaning guidance describes using a larger brush gently on the camera surface and a smaller brush for corners and delicate exterior parts. A camera-cleaning brush may also be used gently on the lens. Do not press hard, and do not use either brush on the image sensor.

How to use a blower on the A7S II
Work indoors where there is little wind or dust, as Sony recommends in its general sensor-cleaning guidance. Follow the A7S II’s model-specific sequence:

- Turn the camera off.
- Remove the lens.
- Hold the camera slightly face-down so loosened dust can fall out.
- Use a camera-cleaning blower gently on and around the exposed sensor surface. Keep the blower tip within the lens-mount area: do not insert it into the cavity beyond the mount, and do not let it touch the sensor.
- Attach the lens again when finished.
Sony also warns against blowing too hard or subjecting the camera to shock while cleaning. Its Help Guide states: “Do not insert the tip of the blower into the cavity beyond the lens mount area, in order to make sure that the tip of the blower does not touch the image sensor.”

What if the dust does not come off?
If dust remains after the blower procedure, Sony’s A7S II Help Guide says to consult a service facility. Sony’s general guidance likewise advises contacting its service centre when dust is not removed. Camera shops may offer professional sensor cleaning, but no particular provider is specified here.
The cited Sony instructions do not provide an A7S II-compatible wet-cleaning procedure, sensor swab, or fluid recommendation. Do not assume that a swab kit is Sony-approved for this model. If you are considering one, check the kit maker’s compatibility information and instructions; for persistent dust, Sony’s stated next step is service.
