Seamless Planet Takeoffs SFSE (Beta) aims to hide Starfield’s loading screen during planetary takeoff, keeping you in the cockpit as your ship rises. It does not eliminate the underlying cell load, and the handoff may still be noticeable. The Nexus Mods listing showed version 1.4, updated October 10, 2026; the mod remains a beta experiment, not a complete fix for Starfield’s travel transitions.

What the takeoff mod changes

Starfield’s takeoff and landing transitions have drawn criticism for interrupting the sense of continuous space travel. In a July 21, 2026 article, PC Gamer contrasted those transitions with the seamless transitions in No Man’s Sky; that is the article’s comparison, not a measured player consensus or technical benchmark. PC Gamer’s report on the mod

Created and uploaded by 0xBobby, Seamless Planet Takeoffs SFSE (Beta) targets the visible loading transition when taking off from a planet. Its description says it spawns the ship above the landing site; PC Gamer reports that the player stays in the cockpit while the ship rises through the atmosphere. The aim is to make takeoff feel more continuous by masking the transition, not by removing the game’s underlying load.

PC Gamer reports that players may still notice the switch between game cells. The mod author also warns that how seamless the transition appears depends on the planet’s atmosphere and weather, adding: “The seamlessness of the transition will depend on the atmosphere and weather of the planet, I am working on making the transition even smoother.”

What it does—and does not—cover

Experience What to expect
Planetary takeoff The mod attempts to mask the loading screen and keep you in the cockpit as the ship rises; a cell handoff may still be perceptible.
Planetary landing Seamless landings are not promised. The creator describes them as much more complex and says the chances of implementing them are “pretty much 0.”
Visual smoothness Results vary with planetary atmosphere and weather, according to the mod author.

The listing does not claim to remove loading transitions throughout the game. For landings, 0xBobby writes: “I may attempt that, but the chances of it happening are pretty much 0.” PC Gamer separately quotes the creator as saying, “It probably won’t ever happen, at least not from me,” in reference to seamless landings.

Requirements and platform compatibility

The mod listing specifies these dependencies:

  • Required: Starfield Script Extender (SFSE).
  • Required: Address Library for SFSE Plugins.
  • Optional, but recommended: Fly Closer To Planets in Cruise Mode. The mod author warns that without it, the ship may teleport upward when entering cruise mode after takeoff.

Because the mod requires SFSE, its practical compatibility is limited by SFSE’s platform support. Nexus’s Starfield Vortex extension documentation says SFSE is Steam-only and does not work with the Xbox Game Pass version. Vortex supporting Steam and Xbox Starfield installations does not make an SFSE-dependent mod compatible with Game Pass. Check the mod’s live requirements and confirm your game version before installing. Nexus Mods’ Starfield extension documentation

Beta status and installation notes

The Nexus listing labels the mod beta. Its changelog records fixes involving crashes, weather effects, camera problems, inability to shoot in some situations, and quest-related crashes or softlocks. Those updates show active bug-fixing; they do not establish that every issue is resolved.

If you use Vortex, its Starfield extension page lists Vortex 1.9.10 or later as a requirement; LOOT sorting requires Vortex 1.12.0 or later. The extension documentation also describes Starfield’s separate Data folders and an optional folder-junction method, and warns that cloud-sync services such as OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox can cause issues with that method. These are general Vortex and Starfield installation notes, not additional requirements stated for this particular mod. Starfield Vortex Extension

Should you install it?

It may suit Steam players who want planetary takeoffs to feel less interrupted and are comfortable trying a beta mod with the required SFSE components. Treat the result as a visual improvement that can vary by planet—not as proof that loading has disappeared or that every takeoff will be smooth.
