CHOICE’s listing supplies the measurable headline specifications: pocket springs, 222 springs per square metre, 11 layers, 36 kg and 28 cm. Those details are more useful for comparing like-for-like products than assuming a higher spring count or a named foam automatically means better support.
Firm, medium, plush or super firm?

The CHOICE-listed queen configuration is labelled firm. It is the variant associated with the 51% unused comfort result, so buyers should not transfer that score to the medium, plush or super-firm versions. A firm label can feel different depending on body weight, sleeping position, foundation and the amount of upholstery above the springs.

Forty Winks’ listing showed queen medium and plush variants in addition to firm. Availability can vary by store and date. A softer label does not prove better pressure relief for a side sleeper, and a firmer label does not prove better spinal support; both are reasons to test the actual surface.
Super firm
A.H. Beard’s product page names a super-firm choice. The available evidence does not provide a separate CHOICE score or price for it. Confirm that the retailer has the same model generation and that the quoted price includes the intended size.
How to test the feel in a shop
- Wear ordinary sleep clothing and lie in your usual sleeping position for at least several minutes.
- Test the exact firmness and size you plan to order; do not rely on a display mattress with a different label.
- Check whether your shoulders and hips sink comfortably while your midsection remains supported.
- Turn over and sit on the edge to assess movement and edge stability.
- Ask the salesperson to identify the model, firmness, construction and return policy on the paperwork.

Size and fit: resolve the dimension discrepancy
CHOICE lists the tested queen mattress as 203.5 × 150.5 × 28 cm. A.H. Beard’s product page gives queen dimensions of 2030 × 1530 mm, equivalent to 203 × 153 cm. The width differs by 2.5 cm and the length by 0.5 cm between the published sources.

A small width difference can matter on a tightly fitted frame, a platform with side rails or a storage base.

The manufacturer says: “We don’t offer change-of-mind returns but can adjust mattress support levels after purchase for a nominal fee.” That statement should be checked against the retailer’s written terms before payment; a retailer may have its own process, and a support adjustment is not the same as a full return or refund.
Ask these questions before signing:
- Is the mattress covered by the manufacturer guarantee from the delivery date or another defined date?
- What evidence is required for a workmanship or materials claim?
- Does the guarantee require a specified base, centre support or rotation schedule?
- What exactly does “support adjustment” involve, what does it cost and who performs it?
