“A Gear in Need,” Act 1 Chapter 3 of Gears of War: E-Day, ends when you follow Tai to the squad’s temporary base. To finish the chapter with both collectibles, pick up Tomatoes, Canned in the warehouse before using its Exit door, then collect the Broken Lancer Bayonet beside a Drone’s body after Tai saves Marcus and before leaving the store.
How to complete A Gear in Need
The route goes from the opening attack through a collapsed apartment building to the Pay-N-Save, then follows Tai to the temporary base. The reunion cutscene at the base ends the chapter and leads into “Back in the Fold.”

Clear the opening attack
A Gear radios for help at the Pay-N-Save, and a large claw breaks through the ground to open a path for attackers. Use cover to fight the Crawlers and other enemies, advance toward the opening, and collect ammunition from fallen enemies when needed. Taking the higher ground on the right can give you a clearer firing line, but it is not required.
Cross the collapsed apartment building
- Climb the inclined rubble and jump across the gap.
- Turn right to descend the stairs, then turn right again and drop through the opening in the floor.
- Continue through the broken wall to reach the street, then follow the road toward the Pay-N-Save-marked trailer or warehouse entrance.
- Clear the Rusher near the warehouse and nearby Crawlers before going inside.
Where is Tomatoes, Canned in A Gear in Need?
It is in the warehouse’s back storage area. Move past the refrigerators and shelving, then search the second storage section for an open cardboard tray or box on the floor near a corpse and scattered supplies. The exact aisle cue varies between walkthroughs, so check the whole back section rather than relying on a particular shelf or side.

Pick up Tomatoes, Canned before interacting with the warehouse’s Exit door. Using the door triggers a cutscene and ends your chance to search the warehouse.
How to defend the Pay-N-Save
After the cutscene, fight off the Locust attackers inside the store. Move between checkout counters and other cover, and use ammunition found around the store. Short, controlled shots help conserve ammunition; the Gnasher is useful at close range when enemies push into the aisles.

Where do I find the Broken Lancer Bayonet?
After the scripted moment when Tai saves Marcus, regain control and look at the floor beside the Drone’s body, at or near your feet. Pick up Broken Lancer Bayonet before you exit the store and follow Tai. Leaving the store ends the opportunity to collect it.
Finish the chapter
Once you have the bayonet, leave the store and follow Tai down the road to the squad’s temporary base. The reunion cutscene there marks the end of “A Gear in Need.”

Xbox’s official listing identifies Gears of War: E-Day and Xbox Series X|S support. In an October 1, 2026 Xbox Wire announcement, The Coalition’s Studio Head Mike Crump said early access began that day at 8:00 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC) and worldwide launch was scheduled for October 6 at the same time. The announcement listed Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam, plus cloud gaming through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW. Availability can vary by date and region.
