The Pokémon GO Plus + normally needs a person to hold its main button to start and end a sleep session. A maker project with this title reportedly automates that button press, but the available description only identifies an automatic button pusher; it does not establish how the device was opened or what parts were used. Here is how the supported sleep workflow works, what automation would need to preserve, and the safety limits to consider before modifying the accessory.
What the project appears to automate
The Pokémon GO Plus + is a Bluetooth Low Energy accessory designed to connect with Pokémon GO and Pokémon Sleep. Nintendo says its sleep tracking is based on lack of movement, not on a stated clinical measurement method. The project’s apparent target is the manual action required to begin and finish a session—not a replacement for the accessory’s tracking or app-sync process.

The accessible project description mentions an automatic button pusher, but does not verify the author’s teardown path, actuator, circuit, firmware, parts list, or reliability. It would be inaccurate to name a specific mechanism or claim that the modification was demonstrated to work in particular conditions.
How stock sleep tracking works
Start and end a session
- For Pokémon GO rewards, pair the accessory with Pokémon GO, but make sure it is not actively connected for gameplay when starting the sleep session.
- Hold the main button until the indicator flashes blue and a lullaby plays.
- Place the accessory on the mattress or secure it to a pillow with the included strap and clip, following Pokémon Support’s guidance.
- When you wake, hold the main button again until the indicator flashes multicolored lights.
- Reconnect the accessory to transfer its data. Pokémon GO rewards must be collected; they are not claimed automatically.
A red flash at the end means the log was not recorded successfully or the session was shorter than 90 minutes. Pokémon Support and Niantic both state that a session under 90 minutes is not saved.
#1 Best Overall
- The packaging is Japanese, but item works the same as the US version.
- Catch Pokémon and track your rest rhythm with the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory!
- Keep track of your sleep with the press of a button
- Press and hold the central button on the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory and place it by your pillow to track your rest rhythm on the Pokémon Sleep app
- There’s a Pikachu within your Pokémon GO Plus + that can sing you lullabies and act as your morning alarm; Pikachu grows friendlier the more you sleep, unlocking even more sounds!
Placement and data retention
Mattress placement and bedding can affect whether movement is detected. Pokémon Support says moving the device closer to the body may improve detection when a setup is not recording movement properly. The support page also says Pokémon Sleep can report up to eight sessions at once, but cannot receive data that is 14 days old or older. Unpairing the accessory prevents retrieval of sleep data still stored on it.
The apps use the data differently. Pokémon Sleep uploads bedtime, wake-up time, and time spent in each sleep stage. Niantic says data shared with Pokémon GO is used for reward calculation and in-app activity display, is removed from Niantic’s servers after one week, and otherwise remains on the accessory rather than the phone.

- Spin PokéStops or throw Poké Balls automatically in Pokémon GO for hands-free gameplay (and Great Balls and Ultra Balls can be thrown too!)
What automation must preserve
Automating a press does not remove the need for a valid start and end sequence, suitable placement, a session of at least 90 minutes, and a later sync. An automation that presses at the wrong time could start a session while the user is awake, end it too early, or leave the accessory in an unexpected state. The source description does not provide results that establish how reliably its particular setup handles those cases.

If comparing ways to automate the task, consider these questions rather than assuming one approach is best:
Rank #3
- Catch Pokémon and track your rest rhythm with the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory!
- Keep track of your sleep with the press of a button
- Press and hold the central button on the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory and place it by your pillow to track your rest rhythm on the Pokémon Sleep app

- Stock manual operation: Does the user prefer direct control of the start and end cues?
- External timed button press: Can the device trigger the physical button without opening the accessory, and can the timing be adjusted or stopped easily?
- Internal modification: Does the change require opening the accessory, and is it reversible? The project’s specific method is not established by the available description.
- Workflow compatibility: Does the approach preserve the official indicator and sound cues, pairing state, and post-session sync process?
- Timing reliability: What happens if the user wakes earlier or later than expected, or a press fails?
Safety and support limits
Nintendo’s U.S. safety guidance says, “Do not disassemble or try to repair the Pokémon GO Plus +.” Nintendo also warns against using the accessory while charging, including during sleep tracking, and says to remove the charging cable when sleeping. It warns that the magnet and wireless transmitter may interfere with pacemakers or defibrillators, and advises people with those devices not to use the accessory. Pokémon Support states that the product “is not water- or damage-resistant.” Opening or altering the accessory therefore conflicts with the manufacturer’s stated guidance and may expose it to damage; the project description does not establish any manufacturer-approved modification.
