Opening a suspicious calendar link does not, by itself, prove that your Apple Account was taken over. The urgent response depends on what happened next: if you entered your Apple Account password or other personal information on the site, Apple says to change your password immediately. If you only subscribed to an unwanted calendar, remove that subscription in Calendar and watch for concrete signs of account compromise.

First, identify what you did

Do not reopen the link to investigate. Work out which of these applies:

  • You opened the link but did not enter information or subscribe to anything.
  • You subscribed to a calendar or accepted an unwanted calendar event.
  • You entered your Apple Account password or other personal information.
  • You shared a two-factor authentication verification code or approved a sign-in you did not initiate.

Apple advises against following links or opening attachments in suspicious or unsolicited messages, and says to treat unexpected requests for account information as scams. Its guidance calls for an immediate password change if you believe your account was compromised or may have entered your password or other personal information on a scam website; a click alone is not proof of compromise. Apple’s scam and phishing guidance was published June 15, 2026.

If you entered your password or personal information

Change your Apple Account password promptly using a trusted Apple device if possible. On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > [your name] > Sign-In & Security > Change Password. Follow the on-screen prompts. Apple says a security delay of up to one hour may be required in some circumstances; if so, follow the trusted-device instructions rather than using a link sent by a caller or message as a workaround. See Apple’s password-change instructions, published September 29, 2026.

During the change, Apple may offer Remove Other Devices. Choosing it requires those devices to sign in again. Also ensure two-factor authentication is enabled, as Apple recommends when an account may have been exposed.

Protect verification codes and sign-in prompts

Apple Account two-factor authentication may require your password and a six-digit verification code when you sign in on a new device or on the web. Never disclose a code to someone who contacted you, and do not approve a sign-in request you did not start. Apple says it will not ask you to provide your password, device passcode or two-factor authentication code through an unsolicited support interaction or suspicious web page. Read Apple’s two-factor authentication guidance, published August 13, 2026.

If you shared a code or approved an unexpected sign-in, treat that as sensitive account exposure: change the password using the trusted-device route above. If you see concrete signs of compromise or cannot secure the account, use Apple’s official support channels rather than a phone number or link in the suspicious message.

Delete or hide a calendar in iOS 26 or later

Apple’s instructions for iOS 26 or later say to open Calendar > Calendars, tap the info button beside the unwanted calendar, then choose Delete Calendar or Unsubscribe and confirm. If it cannot be removed, deselect it to hide it. Hiding only removes the calendar from view; it does not delete the calendar or end a subscription. See Apple’s iOS 26 calendar removal instructions, published September 30, 2026.

Report an individual unwanted event

If the content is a single event from an unknown contact rather than a subscribed calendar, Apple’s iOS 26-or-later instructions say to open the event and choose Report Junk, then Delete and Report Junk.

Report the message that carried the link

Reporting does not replace changing exposed credentials or removing a calendar. Use the route that matches the original message:

  • Suspicious email that appears to be from Apple: forward it to reportphishing@apple.com.
  • Apple-looking SMS: take a screenshot and email it to reportphishing@apple.com.
  • Spam in iCloud Mail: mark it as Junk or move it to the Junk folder.
  • Suspicious message in Messages: use Report Junk.

These reporting routes are listed in Apple’s scam guidance.

What if you only opened the link?

If you did not enter information, share a code, approve a sign-in or subscribe to a calendar, the cited Apple guidance does not say that opening the link alone confirms an account takeover or prescribe a separate device-audit procedure for click-only cases. Remove any calendar subscription the link created, and pay attention to concrete signs of compromise. If those signs appear, contact Apple through its official support channels. Do not revisit the suspicious link.
