Averatec’s D1005 was announced in July 2009 as a 22-inch all-in-one desktop with an original MSRP of $799. Its launch configuration paired an Intel Pentium E5200 processor with 3 GB of memory, a 320 GB hard drive, and Windows Vista Home Premium. Those price and specification details describe the 2009 launch, not a current product or offer.
What Averatec announced
TriGem USA announced the Averatec D1005 on July 17, 2009. The company presented it as a space-saving desktop for home users, businesses, and college-bound students. In the announcement, TriGem USA vice president of sales Henry Hewitt said, “Our latest offering was designed with the college student and business professional in mind.” That was the company’s positioning, not an independent assessment of who would benefit from the PC.
The all-in-one format integrated the computer with its display, which the company said would save desk space. The announcement described the intended benefit; it did not provide measurements or a comparison demonstrating how much space the D1005 saved.

What the D1005 was marketed to do
TriGem promoted the D1005 for everyday browsing, social networking, home and business software, games, and online video. That list was marketing copy rather than a published performance assessment. TechCrunch’s launch-day writer questioned whether the system could handle HD video, writing, “I question its HD video capability, but it’s hard to say one way or the other.” The comment was an individual opinion, not a benchmark or a resolved finding.
