Focal’s Celestee is a wired, closed-back premium headphone with a strong build and clear, natural-sounding mids—but its weight, fit, limited soundstage and current availability matter as much as its sound. Focal’s product page currently says the Celestee is no longer available, so buyers should assess the actual condition, seller support and warranty of any remaining or used pair rather than rely on its launch-era price.
What is the Focal Celestee?
The Celestee is a wired, closed-back over-ear headphone, released on December 18, 2020 according to SoundGuys. Focal describes it as suitable for home and portable listening. It is not a wireless travel headset: it has no built-in microphone or active noise cancellation.
Focal’s current product page lists the Celestee as no longer available. Availability can differ by retailer and region, so this status does not prove that every remaining-stock or secondhand listing has disappeared. Check the seller’s stock, condition, return terms and warranty directly. SoundGuys listed a price of $999 USD when it reviewed the headphone; that is historical context, not a current price quote.
Specifications and what they mean
These are Focal’s published specifications, not independent measurements or a guarantee of how loud or balanced the headphone will sound with every source.

| Frequency response | 5 Hz–23 kHz |

Focal says the 35 Ω impedance supports use with a portable audio player. It does not mean every phone or player will provide the same volume or sound quality. The cable ends and earcup inputs are marked left and right; connect matching sides. The product sheet describes a Navy Blue semi-aniline leather finish with Soft Copper accents.
How does the Celestee sound?
Reviewers describe a broadly warm presentation with particularly clear mids and vocals, but they do not portray it as an all-purpose neutral reference. RTINGS found the midrange exceptionally neutral while noting weak low bass, subdued treble and a small, closed-off perceived soundstage. SoundGuys reported a measured frequency response that departed from its target curve, particularly around 100 Hz. Those assessments use different review methods and reference points, so they are best read as listening and measurement findings—not as a prediction of every listener’s experience.

Bass and treble
If you want strong sub-bass or prominent treble, the Celestee’s reported balance may not be your preference. RTINGS describes low bass as weak and treble as subdued. Its comparisons say Focal’s Stellia has stronger bass accuracy and more neutral treble, while the closed-back Elegia can reproduce more low bass.
Mids and soundstage
RTINGS praises the Celestee’s midrange and vocal clarity. Its closed-back design, however, does not create the expansive presentation some listeners seek: RTINGS characterizes the perceived soundstage as small and closed-off. If a broad, open presentation is more important than isolation, RTINGS says the open-back Clear Mg offers a larger soundstage, with more leakage and less isolation than the Celestee.

Fit, build and isolation
RTINGS praises the construction and describes the fit as comfortable. SoundGuys also found the construction solid and the materials attractive, but flags the 430 g weight and clamping force as potential problems, especially for people with larger heads. Comfort is therefore a personal-fit question, not a guaranteed strength. Try the Celestee before buying if possible, or make sure a seller offers a workable return policy.
Closed-back earcups provide some passive isolation, but they are not a substitute for active noise cancellation. RTINGS found that the Celestee does not block low-frequency engine rumble well and can leak some sound at high volume. It has no microphone, so it is not a complete headset for calls or gaming chat.

Who should consider the Focal Celestee?
- Consider it if you want a wired, closed-back headphone, value its materials and build, and prefer clear mids and vocals.
- Try it first if you are sensitive to weight or clamping force, or have a larger head.
- Look elsewhere if you need wireless connectivity, a microphone, active noise cancellation, strong engine-noise reduction, or a wide-open soundstage.
- Compare carefully if buying used or remaining stock: current price, condition, seller support and warranty are more useful than the original list-price context.
Alternatives and how to compare them
These distinctions reflect reviewer comparisons, not a claim that one model is best for every listener. Choose based on the feature that matters most to you.
| Model | Reviewer-noted difference from the Celestee | Consider it if… |
|---|---|---|
| Focal Azurys | RTINGS says it trades leather padding for fabric and adds an inline remote and microphone. | You want a microphone and inline controls. |
| Focal Stellia | RTINGS says it offers stronger bass accuracy and more neutral treble. | You want a different bass and treble balance. |
| Focal Clear Mg | RTINGS describes it as open-back, with a larger soundstage, more leakage and less isolation. | Soundstage matters more than keeping sound in or out. |
| Focal Elegia | RTINGS says it is also closed-back and can reproduce more low bass. | You want a closed-back Focal with more low-bass capability. |
| Beyerdynamic DT 700 PRO X | SoundGuys identifies it as a lower-cost closed-back alternative with replaceable parts. | You want to compare a less costly option and value replaceable parts. |
Before choosing, compare fit and weight, bass and treble balance, isolation versus soundstage, microphone and controls, repair or replacement-part options, and the actual price and warranty available to you.

Does the Focal Celestee need burn-in?
Focal recommends a running-in period and describes an optional method of playing bass-rich music for at least 24 hours at relatively high volume. SoundGuys rejects burn-in as a performance requirement and suggests that perceived change may instead come from the fit adapting. That is a difference between manufacturer guidance and reviewer interpretation; there is no need to use prolonged high-volume playback to enjoy the headphones.
Care, replacement cushions and warranty
Focal’s manual says to disconnect the cable before storage. The ear cushions can be removed and clipped back on by aligning their five pins. For replacement parts, the manual advises contacting a local retailer; confirm genuine cushion availability and compatibility before ordering. Warranty terms are handled by the official Focal distributor in the buyer’s country, so check the relevant distributor’s terms for your region and purchase.
Verdict
The Focal Celestee is a well-built wired closed-back headphone whose clearest strengths in reviewer assessments are its construction and vocal-friendly mids. Its weight and clamp will not suit everyone, its soundstage is limited, and its passive isolation does not tame low engine rumble. It is worth considering when those trade-offs match your needs and you find a well-supported listing at a price you consider reasonable; Focal currently marks the model as unavailable, so verify the specific seller and warranty before committing.
