In the United States, its repair workflow may flag a phone that appears to have been refurbished by an organization other than Samsung. For a fuller picture, check Samsung service information, compare the phone’s identifiers with its records, run diagnostics, review warranty details, and ask the seller for documentation. Each check answers a different question; none alone proves a complete repair or refurbishment history.
1. Check Samsung’s repair information
In Samsung’s US repair workflow, you may see the message: “It appears your product has been refurbished by an organization other than Samsung. We will be unable to provide repairs and suggest you contact the place of purchase.” If it appears, treat it as a useful indication that Samsung’s service system identifies the phone as refurbished by a non-Samsung organization. The workflow does not establish that every refurbished phone will trigger the message, so its absence is not proof that a phone is new or Samsung-refurbished.

2. Compare the phone’s IMEI and serial number
Find the IMEI or serial number on the phone and compare it with the information on the box, carrier account, or bill of sale if available. Samsung lists the handset, packaging, carrier account, bill of sale, Samsung Members, and dialing *#06# as possible ways to find an IMEI or serial number. Availability and exact steps can vary by device and carrier.

A match helps confirm that the records and handset identify the same device. It does not reveal the phone’s repair or refurbishment history.
3. Run Samsung diagnostics
- Open the Samsung Members app and choose Support or the diagnostics option available on your version.
- Select Phone diagnostics, then choose Test all or run individual tests.
- Alternatively, on Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later, open Settings > Device care > Diagnostics > Phone diagnostics > Test all.
Menu names and layouts vary by model and software version. Samsung recommends Members diagnostics for checking hardware and software issues; the functions available to test can also vary by model and market. A passed test means the tested function reported no problem at that time. It cannot establish whether a component is original or whether the phone has previously been refurbished. 4. Review Samsung account and warranty details
Sign in to your Samsung account and check My Products for the product and warranty information Samsung has on file. Samsung’s US support guidance says to submit proof of purchase for review if the warranty date is wrong. Warranty records can help with service follow-up, but Samsung does not describe them as a refurbishment detector. See Samsung’s My Page support information.

If you are buying the phone or deciding whether to keep it, ask the seller for the receipt, a clear description of any refurbishment, disclosure of repairs or replacement parts, and written return and warranty terms. Keep the answers and documents with your purchase records. A cosmetic inspection can reveal visible wear, but appearance alone cannot establish whether hidden repairs were made or which parts were used.
