Neither DoorDash nor Uber Eats is reliably cheaper everywhere. Your total depends on your address, merchant, basket, delivery or pickup choice, local fees, promotions, and membership eligibility. To find the better option for your order, compare the same items and quantities through checkout in both apps.
How to compare DoorDash and Uber Eats prices fairly
Use the same restaurant or store, delivery address, items, quantities, and fulfillment method in both apps. Apply a membership only if you have it and the order qualifies; count a promotion only if you can actually redeem it. Compare the complete checkout total, not just the delivery fee shown on a listing.
- Item prices
- Delivery fee and service fee
- Other charges, such as a small-order or long-range fee
- Tax and tip
- Any valid promotion or membership benefit
Both services describe fees that can vary by order, so a static national price ranking would be misleading. DoorDash outlines its fees in its fee help page; Uber explains its charges in its fee help page.
What fees can DoorDash or Uber Eats charge?
DoorDash: fee rules vary during the 2026 rollout
DoorDash announced a fee-model update on July 23, 2026, with rollout beginning in most U.S. markets in late July. Under the announced design, the delivery fee is fixed per merchant, while the service fee varies with delivery effort. DoorDash described it this way: “Delivery Fee varies by merchant, but is a fixed fee.” The fee model is not uniform nationwide during rollout; DoorDash’s help page lists California, Chicago, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York City, Puerto Rico, and Seattle as initially excluded areas.

In locations not yet using the new model, DoorDash’s help page describes the prior treatment: a 15% service fee on most orders and 5% on most eligible DashPass restaurant orders. These figures are limited to the conditions and locations stated by DoorDash, not a permanent national formula. Check the fees displayed for your address and order.
DoorDash says its own analysis found that over 70% of recent orders would have had the same or lower fees under the update, with a median saving of $0.78 per order. Those are company-reported figures about its recent orders, not independent measurements or guaranteed savings for an individual order. See DoorDash’s July 23, 2026 announcement.

Uber Eats: several variable fees may apply
Uber Eats says delivery fees can change with the merchant, location, demand, and courier availability. Its service fee can vary with factors including basket size. Depending on the order, additional charges may include long-range, small-order, delivery-adjustment, marketplace, or priority-delivery fees. Taxes and legally or merchant-required charges may also apply. Uber says applicable fees appear in the order flow, so inspect checkout before placing the order.
Does pickup change which app is cheaper?
It can. Uber Help says service fees do not apply to pickup orders or deliveries handled by restaurant staff. DoorDash Help lists pickup as an option with zero fees. Availability depends on the merchant and location, and fee savings do not guarantee the lowest total: item prices and offers can differ between an app or website and the merchant. How DashPass and Uber One affect the comparison
Memberships can change the checkout math, but only for eligible orders. Merchant participation, qualifying subtotals, local fees, and current account terms matter; neither service can be declared the better membership for everyone.

DoorDash’s listed DashPass price and eligibility details are on its DashPass help page. Uber’s dated benefit change is in its Uber One notice. Because order frequency, merchant use, local charges, and qualifying subtotals differ, the published information does not establish a universal break-even point.

Which service has better ordering features?
Uber Eats group orders
Uber Eats documents a group-order option in which an organizer shares a link so others can add items. The organizer can set an optional deadline or spending limit, then either pay for the whole order or let guests pay their own share. See Uber’s group-order instructions.
DoorDash feature comparison
The available official information establishes the Uber Eats group-order controls described above, but does not establish whether DoorDash currently offers matching controls. That is not enough evidence to call either service categorically better for group orders.

Which should you use?
For a specific order, choose the app with the lower checkout total for the same basket and fulfillment method, after accounting for benefits you actually qualify for. If pickup is convenient, compare pickup totals separately from delivery. For a group, Uber Eats has documented link-based ordering and payment choices; for other features or locations, verify what each app offers in your account.
