Use an LED face mask as often and for as long as its own instructions specify. There is no universal schedule: manufacturer guidance ranges from every other day to daily or three to five times a week. Think in weeks, not days, when judging results; consistency matters, but extra sessions are not shown to make results arrive sooner.
How often should you use an LED face mask?
Follow the schedule for your exact model. Session length, frequency and intended treatment vary, so one mask’s directions cannot be applied to another. The examples below illustrate why checking the manual matters.
| Device or guidance | Schedule and session length | Results guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Philips ReAura LTM7100/00 | Every second day. Age Care and Blemish Care sessions are 10 minutes; Daily Glow is five minutes. Philips instructions | Philips recommends at least eight weeks for Age Care and at least four weeks for Blemish Care; results vary by person. [c001] |
| Therabody TheraFace Mask Glo | Daily, pre-programmed 12-minute routine, as described by Therabody for its 12-week study. Therabody product information | The company describes a study of 104 subjects; 87% said their skin looked and felt smoother. The page does not state the study year, and the 87% figure is a participant perception, not an independent effectiveness rate for LED masks generally. [c004] |
| Sesderma Radiant Light Therapy mask | Three to five times weekly, for five, 10 or 15 minutes. Sesderma product information | Sesderma says visible results may appear after 28 days with consistent 10–15-minute sessions three to four times weekly. This is the manufacturer’s model-specific claim. [c005] |
| Clarins myLEDmask2 | Every other day for six to eight weeks, as described by Clarins. Clarins guidance | The cited guidance gives a course duration; it does not establish a universal date for results across masks. [c006] |
| American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) overview | Most at-home photobiomodulation devices require consistent use several times weekly. AAD guidance | The AAD says skin benefits may take 8–12 weeks. Follow the instructions for your specific device. [c003] |
When can you expect to see results?
Allow several weeks of consistent use, and treat any timeline as an estimate rather than a guarantee. Philips specifies at least four weeks for its ReAura Blemish Care mode and at least eight weeks for Age Care; the AAD’s broad overview says many at-home devices require 8–12 weeks. These timelines refer to different guidance and should not be treated as interchangeable.
A randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled study published in 2025 evaluated a home-use mask combining 630 nm LED and 850 nm IRED for crow’s-feet appearance. It enrolled 60 adults aged 30–65 and reported significant differences at weeks 8, 12 and 16. That result is specific to the studied mask, participants and outcome; it does not establish the same timeline for other devices or concerns. Read the study [c002]

- Purpose: Identify the concern the device is intended to address, such as blemishes or the appearance of fine lines.
- Protocol: Check minutes per session, sessions per week and recommended course length in the current instructions.
- Technical details: Note wavelengths when disclosed, along with any other device specifications the manufacturer provides.
- Evidence type: Distinguish a controlled study from a manufacturer’s report or survey. A participant’s opinion that skin felt smoother is not the same measure as an objective clinical outcome.
- Study fit: Check the number and characteristics of participants, the outcome measured and how long they were followed. Evidence for one mask and one outcome does not automatically apply to another product or concern.
Safety and practical use
Read your device’s safety directions and use the eye protection it specifies. The AAD advises reviewing technical information such as wavelength, irradiance, fluence and treatment time. If you have photosensitivity or a photodermatosis, consult a dermatologist before using an at-home light device. Stop use and seek medical evaluation if your skin worsens or you develop new hyperpigmentation, pain or unusual photosensitivity. AAD safety guidance [c003]
