Yes, AI-written code can be safe to deploy—but not simply because an AI produced it. Treat it like any other code: understand what it does, have a qualified developer review it, test it, run appropriate security checks, and release it through the same accountable controls as other changes. The decision should depend on the code’s behavior, access, and potential impact—not its origin alone.
Can you trust AI-generated code?
There is no blanket safety guarantee for code from an AI coding assistant. Generated code may work as intended, contain defects, mishandle security-sensitive inputs, or introduce problems through its dependencies or configuration. Review the actual change and the conditions in which it will run.
Research has found security weaknesses in sampled code from AI coding tools. A 2025 revised empirical study by Yujia Fu and colleagues examined 733 snippets associated with GitHub Copilot, Amazon CodeWhisperer, and Codeium. It reported weaknesses in 29.5% of the sampled Python snippets and 24.2% of the sampled JavaScript snippets, spanning 43 CWE categories. Read the study.
Those figures describe that study’s sample and methods; they are not estimates of how often all AI-generated code is vulnerable, nor a prediction about a particular project, model version, prompt, or release. The study also reported that static-analysis warning messages helped Copilot Chat fix up to 55.5% of identified issues. That finding does not mean an AI-assisted repair is secure without independent validation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What should you check before deployment?
Use a process that examines the change and its operating context rather than relying on a single scanner or asking the assistant whether its own code is safe. NIST’s Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF) provides a lifecycle baseline; the practical checks below apply those principles and should be adapted to the repository and risk.
- Establish intended behavior and trust boundaries. Identify what the change should do, what data it handles, which callers or services it trusts, and what privileges it can use.
- Have a developer who understands the change inspect it. Check that the implementation matches the requirement and look for unsafe input handling, missing authorization, accidental exposure of secrets, risky dependency changes, weak error handling, and insecure configuration where relevant.
- Run the project’s tests. Include the tests appropriate to the change, such as unit, integration, or regression tests. Passing tests provide evidence about tested behavior, not proof that every security issue is absent.
- Run available security analysis and triage findings. Use the repository’s established static analysis and dependency or other relevant security checks. Investigate warnings; do not treat an AI-generated fix as verified until it has been reviewed and checked again.
- Use the normal review and release gates. Keep ownership and approval clear, follow the team’s deployment controls, and ensure there is a recovery or rollback path appropriate to the change’s impact.
The scrutiny should reflect what the code can access and what a failure would mean. A small, isolated change with limited privileges is different from code that handles sensitive data, authorizes transactions, or runs with broad production access.

Does code written by AI need human review?
It needs review by someone qualified to judge the change’s behavior and risks. The reviewer should assess the code, tests, dependencies, and runtime context—not approve it based on the assistant’s explanation or on the fact that automated checks passed. Human review is part of accountable engineering; it does not replace testing or security analysis.
Are there special risks when building an AI system?
Distinguish an AI-generated application-code suggestion from development of an AI model or AI-enabled system. NIST’s SP 800-218A describes risks in AI model and system development that can involve interactions among system code, model parameters, and data. It discusses untrusted training data, tampering with model weights or parameters, and injection-style attacks when user queries are not adequately sanitized. These are relevant to building AI systems; they should not be assumed to apply automatically to every ordinary code-completion suggestion.

NIST describes AI model and system development as iterative work involving model code, training data, and other parameters. Its SP 800-218A is a community profile intended to be used with SP 800-218, the SSDF; it should not be used on its own. See NIST SP 800-218A and the SSDF publications page.
