In October 2025, WIRED reported that an exposed database associated with DomeWatch, a House Democrats service, contained personal details linked to more than 450 people identified as holding U.S. “Top Secret” clearances. The database reportedly covered more than 7,000 applicants. The reporting describes exposed applicant information and clearance-holder status—not a confirmed release of classified documents. How long the database was exposed and whether anyone else accessed it remain unknown.
What was exposed?
WIRED reported that the database held information on more than 7,000 people who had applied for jobs with House Democrats over the preceding two years. Within that group, the report identified more than 450 people as Top Secret clearance holders and said personal details associated with them were exposed. Those figures describe people in the reported database; they do not establish a count of individual data records.
The report does not specify the exact personal-data fields exposed. It also does not establish what any affected person worked on, which classified programs or information they could access, or whether their personal information was later used. Clearance status alone does not show access to any particular classified material.

Were classified documents exposed?
The reviewed reporting does not establish that classified documents or operational secrets were exposed. The incident should therefore be described as an exposure of applicant personal details and information identifying clearance holders—not as a confirmed leak of classified material.

How was the database secured?
- September 30, 2025: WIRED reported that a researcher notified the House Office of the Chief Administrative Officer.
- Within hours: The database was reportedly secured. The researcher received a brief reply attributed to a House contact: “Thanks for flagging.” The report does not identify the speaker by name or role.
The reporting does not establish when the exposure began. Securing the database after notification does not show whether anyone accessed it beforehand.
What remains unknown?
- The precise personal-data fields present in the exposed records.
- How long the database was publicly accessible before it was secured.
- Whether access logs or investigators established that anyone else obtained records.
- Whether any downstream misuse was reported.
- Whether a later House incident report documented forensic findings or additional remediation.
The incident report says the exposure period and access by others were unclear. The reviewed DomeWatch FAQ and current House Resume Bank page do not provide a post-incident forensic account.

How does this relate to the House Resume Bank?
DomeWatch was described as a House Democrats service that included House information and a job board or resume bank. The current U.S. House Resume Bank page describes matching job seekers with House offices and says submitted resumes are removed after 90 days unless renewed. That is the current policy of the official House Resume Bank; it does not establish how long the separate database involved in the 2025 report retained information or how long it was exposed.
