ASUS firmware developer Shamino reportedly said that Raptor Lake desktop engineering samples had working Digital Linear Voltage Regulator (DLVR) technology, but Intel fused the feature into bypass mode before release. Retail Raptor Lake desktop CPUs therefore cannot use DLVR, even though ASUS BIOS firmware still shows related controls.

What DLVR does

DLVR stands for Digital Linear Voltage Regulator. Reports describe Intel’s planned design as an on-die digital regulator that would work alongside the motherboard’s voltage regulation, placing additional regulation close to the processor load. The idea was to reduce CPU power consumption.

Intel patent material was reported as suggesting potential power reductions of up to 25%. That figure is a design estimate, not a benchmark result from a shipping Raptor Lake desktop processor; the reports say those retail chips shipped with DLVR disabled. The conditions behind the patent estimate were not independently established in the cited coverage.

Why ASUS BIOS shows a DLVR option

The forum question concerned a “CPU DLVR Bypass Mode Enable” setting visible in ASUS firmware on a Z690 Hero motherboard. Shamino, an ASUS firmware developer, reportedly replied that engineering samples had DLVR enabled and working, but Raptor Lake processors were fused to bypass mode before release. ASUS reportedly retained the BIOS option in case future processors supported the feature. The ROG forum discussion was posted on November 12, 2022; its response is also described in Tom’s Hardware’s November 29, 2022 report.

A BIOS menu item is only a firmware control. Its presence does not show that the processor has the hardware capability to use the feature, and it cannot undo a fuse setting in the CPU.

Can you enable DLVR on a Raptor Lake desktop CPU?

No. The reports say retail Raptor Lake desktop processors were fused to bypass DLVR, so changing the ASUS BIOS option will not activate it on those chips. The setting’s presence is not evidence of an available performance or power-saving mode.

A separate report relayed Intel’s statement that DLVR was “not a POR (Plan of Record) feature for 13th Gen Intel Core processors.” That statement, as reported by io-tech.fi, supports the conclusion that Intel did not plan DLVR as a 13th Gen Core feature. It does not establish why Intel changed course or when the decision was made.
