Review AI-generated Android changes as proposals, not finished work: compare them with the requested behavior, inspect the diff, run tests at the appropriate level, and verify on a device when device behavior matters. Google cautions that generated code can be inaccurate and should be carefully tested for errors, bugs, and vulnerabilities before you rely on it.

Start by checking what the change was meant to do

Before evaluating whether generated code is well written, establish whether it implements the right behavior. Compare the original request and acceptance criteria with the changed files, then trace how the change affects relevant Android components and app states.

  • Identify the user-visible behavior or bug fix the change is supposed to address.
  • Check whether loading, error, empty, boundary, and recovery states are handled where applicable.
  • Look for assumptions about Android APIs, lifecycle events, permissions, and data handling.
  • Compare the implementation with the project’s existing architecture and conventions.

Specific prompts, relevant project context, and smaller reviewable tasks can make generated changes easier to assess. They do not remove the need to verify the result. See Google’s Android Studio prompting guidance.

Review the diff before accepting changes

Read every changed file rather than relying on an agent’s summary. Inspect dependency and build-file changes as well as application code; a small source edit can introduce a new permission, library, or configuration assumption. Android Studio Agent Mode asks developers to review and approve changes, and its ability to build or inspect an app is supporting evidence—not approval of correctness. Google’s Agent Mode documentation describes these capabilities.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
  • Check that the code matches the requested behavior rather than merely compiling.
  • Inspect permission checks, sensitive data paths, and failure handling.
  • Look for lifecycle and API-level assumptions that could differ across supported devices.
  • Confirm that generated tests assert meaningful outcomes and would fail if the behavior were wrong.

Google’s Android Studio FAQ advises: “Use discretion and carefully test all code for errors, bugs, and vulnerabilities before relying on it.” It also describes Gemini as experimental and makes users responsible for their use of code and coding explanations. Read the Android Studio FAQ.

Choose tests by what the change depends on

The key distinction is whether the behavior can be tested without Android framework execution. Isolated logic can often be checked with local JVM tests; integration, Android-dependent behavior, and functional UI interactions may require instrumented tests on an emulator or hardware device.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Test approach Best suited to What it does not establish by itself
Local JVM tests Logic that does not depend on Android framework behavior, including code tested with suitable test doubles. That Android integration or real UI interaction works on a device.
Instrumented tests on an emulator or device Integration, Android-dependent behavior, and functional UI flows that cannot be represented adequately with test doubles. That every supported device, API level, or build variant behaves correctly.
Compose test APIs Testing Compose UI behavior with Compose’s dedicated testing support. Cross-app interactions or all device-specific integration scenarios.
UI Automator UI interactions that cross app boundaries or involve system UI. That underlying logic is correct unless the test asserts the relevant outcome.

These approaches serve different needs rather than forming a single ladder where one replaces all the others. Android’s testing documentation covers test fundamentals and instrumented tests.

Run tests for the affected module and build variant

Use the Android Studio test runner when its IDE workflow and result views suit the change. For finer module and variant targeting, command-line execution can be more explicit; command-line tests also fit continuous integration. Android supports adb-based test execution for additional control. The correct target depends on the project’s modules and configured variants, so do not assume a passing test task covered every app configuration. See Android Studio test execution guidance.

  1. Identify the module and build variant touched by the change.
  2. Run the relevant local tests for isolated logic.
  3. Run instrumented or UI tests for the Android integration and interaction the change affects.
  4. Check the test results and confirm which variant and environment actually ran.

Verify on a device when the behavior is device-dependent

Use an emulator or connected hardware when the change depends on Android behavior that a local JVM test cannot represent—for example, a permission flow, system integration, or actual UI interaction. Android Studio’s agent can deploy to a connected device, inspect the screen, capture screenshots, check Logcat, and interact with the running app. Treat what it observes as evidence to examine: a screen that appears plausible does not prove the requested behavior or its edge cases are correct. Android supports both emulators and physical devices for testing; hardware is not mandatory for every workflow. Android’s testing overview describes available testing workflows.

Use generated tests as drafts, not proof

An AI agent may generate Kotlin or Java unit tests, but test code can be incomplete or assert the wrong thing. Review each assertion: does it check the behavior the request requires, cover relevant edge cases, and fail when the implementation is incorrect? A test that only exercises code or confirms a value was returned may provide little assurance if it never checks the expected outcome. Google’s warning to validate generated code applies to generated tests as well. Android Studio’s FAQ sets out that general caution.

Account for Android Studio Journeys’ preview limitations

Android Studio Journeys lets developers describe UI flows in natural language and evaluate assertions based on what the AI sees on a device. Google documents Journeys as a Preview feature; project journeys require Android Gradle Plugin 9.0.0 or higher. They run against configured variants, and permissions are granted by default during a journey. If permission denial is an important case, test it separately rather than assuming a journey covered it. Google’s Journeys documentation describes the feature and its requirements.

Check what project context the assistant can access

Before an assistant receives source code or project context, review the current data terms and your organization’s policy. Android Studio describes context awareness as opt-in and supports .aiexclude files to restrict context. Its documented data-use terms differ among free use, personal API key or Google One use, and Enterprise cases. Avoid exposing secrets or sensitive source unless sharing is approved under the applicable policy. Consult Android Studio’s data and privacy documentation, last updated August 20, 2026.

Decide when the change is ready

Accept an AI-generated change only when the implementation matches the intended behavior, the relevant tests have run against the appropriate module and variant, and any device-dependent behavior has been checked in a suitable environment. The right test matrix depends on the app’s APIs, supported Android versions, build variants, and the risk of the change; there is no universal test count that establishes correctness.
