More than 450 Witcher 3 mods were newly released or updated in the first two days after the Remastered update launched on PC—but that is a community activity count, not proof that every mod works. PC Gamer’s Wes Fenlon reported the figure on October 1, 2026, after reviewing Nexus Mods activity. CD PROJEKT RED says mods containing XML, script or w3strings files did not work when the update launched on September 29 and may need updating with REDkit.
What the 450-mod count does—and does not—mean
Fenlon’s October 1 count covers mods newly released or updated since the PC launch on September 29. It offers a timely indication of how quickly mod authors responded, but CD PROJEKT RED has not published an official count of compatible mods, and the tally does not mean that each item was tested or confirmed to work.

PC Gamer named examples including The Witcher 3 Mod Manager, Fast Travel From Anywhere, Boat Races, No time for Gwent, Complete Animations Redux, Sort Everything, AutoLoot Advanced Settings, HUD Scaling Fix (All Aspect Ratios), Enhanced Camera, Hoods, New Clouds and Increased Creature Loot. Treat those as examples reported on October 1, not a current or definitive compatibility list. PC Gamer’s report is a snapshot that can become outdated as authors update their work.

CD PROJEKT RED says mods containing XML files, script files or w3strings did not work when the update released. The company says REDkit includes a way to update those mods, but that does not mean every older mod has already been adapted. Check each mod’s page and version notes for explicit support for the Remastered build. CD PROJEKT RED’s mod support guidance explains the file-type issue.

Install and check mods in the game
- Open The Witcher 3’s Mods menu and sign in to your CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Link the account to mod.io, find a mod and subscribe to it.
- Restart the game, then open the Installed section to check that the mod is installed and enabled.
Subscriptions sync across platforms, but a platform ignores mods it does not support. Uploading mods is handled through mod.io. CD PROJEKT RED says script mods must be created through REDkit; textures, bundles and similar content can be made using other methods.
Console mods and cross-progression have extra limits
If you play on console, look for the mod’s Available on consoles tag; a PC mod is not automatically available on PlayStation or Xbox. For cross-progression, CD PROJEKT RED says the same set of mods must be enabled on both platforms. If a mod is missing or incompatible on the device where you open the save, the save may not load correctly. Modded console saves disable trophies and achievements. Remastered availability, saves and changes
The Remastered update launched on September 29, 2026. CD PROJEKT RED describes it as a free upgrade for eligible owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is also available to purchase on Battle.net and the Microsoft Store; eligible owners of the original Nintendo Switch version can claim it for Nintendo Switch 2. Existing saves remain compatible, but the skill-system overhaul resets skills. CD PROJEKT RED also documents a way to revert to an earlier game version, with the method depending on platform. The update’s other listed changes include enhanced visuals and performance, PC path tracing, PS5 Pro support, an overhauled skill system and animations, improved combat and a refreshed interface. What REDkit changes for mod authors
The REDkit changelog lists tools relevant to the update, including script blobs that can allow scripts to run on consoles, new DLC mounters, finer-grained XML overrides and changes intended to make Gwent mods and new cards easier to create. These are capabilities for mod development, not a guarantee that any particular mod will work on every platform or be available on consoles. The REDkit changelog records the tool changes.
