Samsung Sound is reportedly scheduled to stop working after March 31, 2027. According to Android Central and Android Authority, an alert in the app tells users to register their sound device in SmartThings to continue using existing settings. Samsung’s U.S. support page also gives SmartThings setup instructions for compatible soundbars and speakers, but Samsung has not published a model-by-model feature-parity guide in the cited material.

When is Samsung Sound shutting down?

The reported end date is March 31, 2027. Android Central reported on October 2, 2026, that Samsung Sound users were seeing an in-app notice saying the app would remain available “until March 31, 2027.” Android Authority reported the same date on October 1, 2026. These reports attribute the date to the app notice; it should not be treated as a date announced on a public Samsung shutdown page.

The notice also says: “Simply register your sound device in the SmartThings app to continue using your existing settings.” It identifies SmartThings as the destination for Samsung Sound’s audio-control functions. The notice does not say users need to replace their soundbar or speaker.

What should Samsung Sound users do?

You can keep using Samsung Sound while it remains available, or start setting up the device in SmartThings now. Samsung’s U.S. support instructions describe SmartThings as an option when Samsung Sound is unavailable or a device is incompatible.

Check the controls available for your device after setup.

What Samsung Sound does—and which devices it covers

Samsung describes Samsung Sound as an app for enhanced control of compatible Q-Series soundbars, Wi-Fi speakers and Music Frame. Samsung’s 2026 U.S. audio announcement says the app can manage sound and group speakers across its audio lineup, including Q-Series soundbars and Music Studio Wi-Fi speakers. Samsung Singapore’s Music Studio guide describes grouping, Group Play and Stereo modes, as well as advanced audio settings.

These features and device categories do not establish universal support: compatibility depends on the product model and market. Samsung Australia’s support page, updated August 20, 2026, lists Android 12 or later and iOS 13.0 or later for Australian-variant devices. Those operating-system details are regional, not universal requirements.

What to expect from the move to SmartThings

Samsung’s support instructions provide a practical registration route, and the in-app message reported by Android Central points users to SmartThings. But the cited information does not include a model-by-model comparison of Samsung Sound and SmartThings. In particular, it does not establish that every Samsung Sound feature is available for every supported product after migration.
