Administrators should prioritize Palo Alto Networks’ PAN-OS CVE-2026-0310, which can let an unauthenticated attacker disrupt VM-Series firewalls or potentially execute code as root on PA-Series firewalls. HPE has also released updates for vulnerabilities in Aruba AOS-CX, but administrators must check HPE bulletin HPESBNW05134 rev.1 for the affected and fixed switch versions before choosing an upgrade. These are separate vendor advisories and patch tracks.
Palo Alto PAN-OS: prioritize CVE-2026-0310
Palo Alto Networks published its PAN-OS advisory on September 9, 2026. CVE-2026-0310 is a buffer overflow in XML processing. An unauthenticated attacker with network access to a device’s management web or dataplane interface can cause a denial of service on VM-Series firewalls or potentially execute arbitrary code as root on PA-Series firewalls. Panorama is also listed as impacted.
Palo Alto rates the issue HIGH at 7.2. Its risk discussion gives CVSS-B scores of 9.2 for PA-Series risk and 8.7 for VM-Series risk; these are vendor severity scores, not measures of how often attacks occur. The vendor says: “The risk is highest for PA-Series hardware firewalls as there is a risk of arbitrary code execution” (Palo Alto Networks, September 9, 2026).

| Installed PAN-OS 10.2 release | Fixed version listed |
|---|---|
| 10.2.7 | 10.2.7-h37 or later |
| 10.2.10 | 10.2.10-h40 or later |

For other branches, Palo Alto lists PAN-OS 12.2.3 or later for the 12.2 branch, plus branch-specific fixes for 12.1, 11.2, and 11.1. The exact target depends on the installed release within those branches, so confirm the matching row in Palo Alto’s CVE-2026-0310 advisory before upgrading.
Cloud NGFW and Prisma Access customers are upgraded during their next scheduled maintenance cycle, according to Palo Alto. Contact the vendor’s support team or account team to request an earlier maintenance window.

PAN-OS CVE-2026-0309 affects a narrower configuration
CVE-2026-0309 is a command-injection flaw rated MEDIUM at 4.0 by Palo Alto. It allows an authenticated administrator to bypass restrictions and run arbitrary commands as root, but the described exposure requires both a configured Luna HSM and PAN-OS CLI access.
Check whether the Luna HSM condition applies
- Open the firewall’s web interface.
- Go to Device > Setup > HSM.
- Review the displayed HSM settings. Settings indicating a Luna HSM configuration mean the condition described in the advisory may apply.
Palo Alto says limiting CLI access to a small group reduces risk, and reported no known malicious exploitation of CVE-2026-0309 at the time of its advisory. That statement applies to this issue and the time of publication; it does not establish the exploitation status of CVE-2026-0310.

Aruba AOS-CX: consult the HPE version matrix before upgrading
HPE’s separate September 2026 bulletin, HPESBNW05134 rev.1, is titled “Multiple Vulnerabilities in HPE Aruba Networking ArubaOS-CX (AOS-CX).” HPE says it released updates. The indexed bulletin identifies CVE-2026-73749 as unauthenticated buffer-overflow vulnerabilities that can lead to remote code execution, and CVE-2026-73756 as sensitive information disclosure through a man-in-the-middle attack against an API endpoint.
The affected and fixed AOS-CX version table is not established here. Check HPESBNW05134 rev.1 directly and match the switch’s installed release to HPE’s version matrix before selecting a target. The PAN-OS version guidance above does not apply to Aruba switches.

Do not confuse the AOS-CX advisory with ClearPass
Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager is a separate product with a separate notice. Canada’s Cyber Centre advisory AV26-909, dated September 10, 2026, identifies ClearPass versions through 6.11.14 and 6.12.8 as affected and links to HPE bulletin HPESBNW05130 rev.1. Those ClearPass version details are not AOS-CX upgrade guidance.
