ABLIC’s European growth plan began with automotive: in February 2024, the company said it would strengthen that business with sales and field application engineers based at its Frankfurt office. By March 2026, President Seiji Tanaka said ABLIC had expanded its distributor network, invested more in field engineering and other resources, and was beginning to see new projects emerge. The company also said it had started selling its batteryless water-leak sensors in Europe and the United States.
What changed between ABLIC’s 2024 plan and its 2026 update?
The shift is from a stated plan and local groundwork to company-reported expansion and early project activity. The interviews do not quantify European revenue, market share, confirmed customer wins, or how many projects have converted into business.

Why was Frankfurt central to the 2024 strategy?
ABLIC’s 2024 interview framed Europe first as an automotive opportunity. Having sales representatives and field application engineers (FAEs) in Frankfurt gave the company a local presence for customer-facing sales and technical support. The interview also discussed plans to expand automotive products on its e-commerce site and make sample delivery more responsive; those were plans, not confirmation that each change was completed.
Automotive suppliers often need to demonstrate robust development processes and meet customer quality expectations. ABLIC said it had obtained development-process certification under ISO 26262, a functional-safety standard, and was addressing the VDA 6.3 process audit. The company’s statement does not establish the certification’s precise scope or current validity, and it should not be read as saying that the VDA audit had been passed.

What does ABLIC say has progressed since then?
In the March 2026 account of an interview conducted the previous day, Tanaka described a broader European automotive support network: more distributors, greater investment in FAEs and other resources, and new projects beginning to emerge. This is a company-reported early indicator, not a disclosed count of projects or proof of customer wins or revenue growth in Europe.
The update also reported company-wide financial figures. Tanaka said ABLIC’s operating profit margin was above 30% and projected sales to increase by more than 10% in FY2025 compared with FY2023. The margin is the company’s reported figure; the sales comparison is a projection, not an audited result established by the interview. Neither figure isolates European performance.
How do batteryless water-leak sensors fit the European opportunity?
In 2024, ABLIC described CLEAN-Boost sensors as using small amounts of electricity generated by water, avoiding a battery in the sensor. At the time, its packaged sensor-and-receiver product was being sold in Japan, with overseas sales under consideration. By March 2026, ABLIC said overseas sales had begun in Europe and the United States.

ABLIC reported a communication range of approximately 100–200 m and said the sensor’s maximum operating temperature had increased from 60°C to 85°C. These are company-reported specifications, not independently verified test results in the cited interviews.
The company identified possible settings where wiring can be difficult or disruptive: water-cooled data centers, historic-building retrofits, infrastructure, and factories. These are proposed application areas, not evidence that the product has been adopted in each one. The sources describe an industrial monitoring product and its overseas rollout, but do not establish consumer retail availability or a specific purchase channel.

ABLIC describes itself as an analog semiconductor business serving automotive, medical, industrial, and other applications. Tanaka’s 2026 interview grouped its priorities into five areas: lithium-ion battery protection ICs; automotive power-management ICs; medical and high-voltage applications; Hall-effect (magnetic sensor) ICs; and batteryless water-leak sensors using CLEAN-Boost technology.

The same interview discussed automotive secondary-battery monitoring, 48V auxiliary-battery power management, automotive DC-DC converters, and analog front ends for monitoring large-scale storage batteries that were under development. These product areas provide context for the company’s wider strategy; the stated European expansion remains focused chiefly on automotive support and the overseas sensor rollout.
Company background
ABLIC’s history traces through a business that branched off from Seiko Instruments in 2016 as SII Semiconductor Corporation and took the ABLIC name in 2018. Its company page says it joined the MinebeaMitsumi Group in April 2020. In April 2023, Tanaka said ABLIC merged with Samurai Semiconductor Corporation to augment semiconductor design capability, including work on analog front ends for large battery monitoring.
