“Copyright-free” is not a single, clear permission. For music you plan to put in a video, podcast, game, or monetized post, check the specific license: who may use the track, for which projects, on which plan, and whether attribution or other limits apply. “Royalty-free” generally describes how payment works; it does not, by itself, mean the music has no copyright or can be used without conditions.

What “Copyright-Free” And “Royalty-Free” Tell You

People often use “copyright-free” to mean music they can reuse without negotiating a separate license for every project. But a service may retain ownership while granting you permission to use a download. Musicful, for example, says its downloaded tracks come with a non-exclusive, perpetual license, while Musicful retains ownership. That is a license to use the music under stated terms, not a transfer of ownership.

“Royalty-free” also does not automatically mean free to download, unrestricted, or cleared for every kind of use. Product pages may use the phrase alongside plan limits or commercial-use terms. Read the actual permission attached to the track and your account plan, and check the vendor’s current terms if the page does not answer your intended use.

What To Check Before Using A Track

  • Your project: Confirm the license covers the actual use, such as a monetized video, podcast, client project, advertisement, game, or streaming release. Permission for personal use does not establish permission for commercial use.
  • Your plan and download: Check whether commercial rights apply to the plan you used to generate or download the track. Some services explicitly reserve commercial use for paid plans; free access alone is not proof of commercial permission.
  • Attribution and restrictions: Look for attribution requirements, download or distribution limits, and exclusions for particular media or projects. If terms do not say, ask the vendor rather than assume.
  • Proof: Save the applicable terms and any license certificate or download record. OpenMusic AI says each song comes with a license for proof; Sunp says certificate access is part of the paid-plan path. Check the vendor’s site for the current details.
  • People and source material: If a track uses an identifiable voice, cover, reference recording, or sample, check that you have the necessary consent and that the platform’s terms allow the intended use. A service’s commercial-use statement does not by itself establish consent for someone else’s voice or material.

How AI Music Rights Differ From Permission To Use A Track

A platform license and copyright ownership answer different questions. A license describes what the service permits you to do with a generated track. Copyright asks what parts of the work qualify for protection and who may claim them.

The U.S. Copyright Office’s January 2025 report says music generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable, prompts alone do not make a person the author, and human-authored parts of a mixed work may be protected. Applicants registering work containing more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material must disclose it and describe the human author’s contribution. These are U.S. copyright findings; they do not replace the platform’s license or establish the rules elsewhere. U.S. Copyright Office: Copyright And Artificial Intelligence

Eleven Music Generated tracks are described as cleared for broad commercial use, but commercial rights vary by subscription tier. The Free plan is limited to personal use. Check the subscription terms and exclusions. The product listing says commercial rights exclude film, TV, and studio games.
Soundverse AI Beat Maker Beats are described as royalty-ready, and a commercial license is available for releasing and monetizing tracks. Check which plan provides the license and its scope; the free tier starts with 1,000 tokens upon signup.
Loudly Loudly describes its generated music as royalty-free and commercially licensed. Its free generated tracks are limited to 30 seconds, and paid licensing rights depend on plan terms. Check the plan terms and the allowed use for the particular download.
Mureka Mureka describes downloads as royalty-free and says tracks can be downloaded with full commercial rights for use across platforms and projects. Check the applicable plan and current license terms for your project.
SimpleLofi SimpleLofi describes its music as copyright-free and says its beats are safe for monetization on YouTube, Twitch, and other platforms. Check the vendor’s current terms for the exact license, plan, and permitted uses; those details are not established here.
Musicful Musicful says downloads receive a non-exclusive, perpetual license for content such as videos, podcasts, and audiobooks, including monetization. It retains ownership of generated tracks and says it provides a commercial license certificate. Check the plan terms: Free and Basic are described as non-commercial, while commercial use is limited to Standard and Pro.
OpenMusic AI OpenMusic AI describes generated tracks as royalty-free and intended for commercial use, and says each song comes with a license. Check the license attached to your song and the plan terms governing downloads and commercial use.
Songin.ai Paid-plan music is described as usable commercially. The Free plan is for personal use only and provides watermarked MP3 downloads. Check the paid plan’s terms and the license for your downloaded track.
Tunee Tunee says generated music and videos have a full commercial license. Free users may use music for personal projects with attribution. Tunee also says copyright law for AI music is evolving and it cannot guarantee copyright protection. Check its terms for your intended use.
Sunp Sunp describes paid plans as the route to commercial use, certificate access, and repeatable project use under its current License Agreement. Check the License Agreement and plan terms before commercial publishing.

A Practical Workflow For A Video Or Podcast

  1. Write down where the music will appear. For example: “background music in a monetized YouTube video” or “intro music in a client podcast.” The more specific the use, the easier it is to compare against the license.
  2. Pick a musical brief that fits the job. A prompt could be: “Instrumental background music for a calm product tutorial, with a gentle pulse, no vocals, and a clean ending.” This is a creative brief, not a license condition, and it does not guarantee a service can produce those details.
  3. Check the service and plan before generating or downloading. Confirm commercial use, attribution, platform coverage, and any excluded media in the current terms. If using an identifiable voice, cover, sample, or reference audio, confirm consent and the platform’s rules for that material.
  4. Keep the permission with the project files. Save the track, the terms that applied, and any certificate or proof the service provides. If the license is unclear about your specific project, ask the vendor before publishing.
  5. Review platform rules separately. A music license does not guarantee that an upload will qualify for monetization or meet a platform’s disclosure rules. YouTube requires disclosure for realistic altered or synthetic content that could be mistaken for a real person’s performance. Its inauthentic-content policy addresses mass-produced, repetitive, or template-based uploads, rather than AI use by itself. TechCrunch: YouTube Clarifies Policies Around AI Content

When The License Is Not Enough To Settle The Question

A license can grant permission under a service’s terms without guaranteeing that an AI-generated track is copyright-protected, unique, or free of every possible dispute. The U.S. Copyright Office’s findings address copyrightability in the United States; they do not establish the law in every country. For a high-stakes release, or where a voice or source recording belongs to someone else, get clear consent and review the relevant platform terms before using the material.
