To clone a voice for singing with AI, start with a singing-voice tool that explicitly supports custom voice training or singing voice conversion. LyricToMelody AI supports custom singing-voice training from uploaded or recorded vocals and can generate sung drafts from lyrics or MIDI. SoulX-Singer is a research-oriented toolkit for cloning, converting, and generating singing voices, with melody or MIDI conditioning. The workflows differ: one is a web songwriting workspace; the other is a self-hosted project whose full local control centers on Linux.

Speech cloning is not automatically singing cloning. A tool that makes a speaking voice sound like a reference does not establish that it can preserve sung pitch, lyrics, timing, or vocal expression. The two tools above have singing-specific capabilities in their directory descriptions; this does not establish support for every genre, language, vocal range, or production style.
Prepare A Voice Sample And Song Part
- Use a voice you have permission to clone. For the cleanest comparison, make the reference a solo vocal without backing instruments or other singers. The exact recording format and minimum sample length are not established for these two workflows, so check the relevant tool’s documentation before recording or uploading.
- Choose a short phrase from the song and settle its lyrics, melody, and timing first. For LyricToMelody AI, you can build a sung draft from lyrics or MIDI. For SoulX-Singer, melody or MIDI can condition singing synthesis, and the toolkit includes lyric editing.

Build A Singing Voice Workflow With SoulX-Singer
- Review the SoulX-Singer project and its documentation before setting it up. It is research-oriented, and its full local-control workflow centers on Linux and self-hosting; the directory does not establish a one-click consumer installation path.
- Prepare a voice reference and a melody or MIDI guide for the singing part. The project documents zero-shot synthesis for unseen singers with melody or MIDI conditioning, plus singing-voice conversion. Its supported reference format and input requirements are not stated here, so follow the project documentation.
- Use the lyric-editing workflow to set the words, then condition the singing synthesis on the melody or MIDI guide. A useful first test is a short, plainly sung phrase with a simple melody; compare the output against the guide for words and melodic movement. The documented capabilities do not establish a specific genre preset or universal performance quality.
- If you are converting an existing vocal, use the singing-voice conversion workflow and consult the project instructions for vocal input and extraction. Vocal extraction and dereverberation are listed capabilities, but the exact sequence and supported file formats are not established here.

How To Pick Between The Two

- Choose SoulX-Singer if you want a singing-focused research toolkit with voice conversion and melody- or MIDI-conditioned synthesis, and can work with a Linux-centered self-hosted setup.
- If your priority is a particular genre, language, vocal register, DAW, or file format, confirm it with the vendor or project documentation. Those specifics are not established for both tools here.
Get Permission And Check Usage Terms
Clone only your own voice or a voice whose singer has authorized the use. Check each platform’s current terms for your input recordings, generated vocals, and intended release. LyricToMelody AI lists commercial rights on paid plans; SoulX-Singer lists commercial use as allowed. Those directory descriptions do not settle every rights question for a particular recording, model, or distribution channel.
If you plan to release music, Spotify’s September 2025 policy announcement said vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist authorizes it and described support for DDEX AI disclosures in credits. Spotify announced an AI Persona badge in August 2026 for artist identities that may be AI-generated rather than a real person.
