This is an archival version of the list for 2022. “Top” means a useful mix of major news outlets, specialist Westminster coverage, party-focused sites, fact-checking, and public-policy analysis—not an objective ranking. RSS addresses can change, so test a feed before building a large subscription list.

Some publishers provide several feeds—for example, separate feeds for a newspaper’s home page, politics section, opinion section, or live blogs. Subscribe to the narrowest relevant feed rather than adding every available category.
Which feeds should you choose?
For a neutral news baseline
Start with BBC Politics, then add either The Guardian, Sky News, or The Independent. One general-news feed plus one additional outlet is usually enough for routine updates. Adding all four may produce repeated coverage of the same speech, reshuffle, or poll.

For Westminster detail
PoliticsHome is more specialised than a general news site. Pair it with the official UK Parliament feed if you want both political reporting and primary information about debates, bills, committee work, and parliamentary business.
For policy rather than political drama
The Institute for Government and Constitution Unit are useful counterweights to daily headlines. Their articles tend to explain how institutions work, what a policy change means in practice, and where constitutional or administrative problems may arise.

For party-specific coverage
Party-focused feeds are deliberately not neutral news sources. ConservativeHome, LabourList, and Lib Dem Voice can be valuable for understanding each party’s arguments and internal concerns, but read them alongside reporting from an independent outlet.
How to add the feeds
Feedly
- Open Feedly and select Follow Sources or + Add Content.
- Paste the complete feed URL, including
https://. - Choose the matching publication and select Follow.
- Create a folder such as UK Politics so the feeds do not mix with technology or general news.
Inoreader
- Select Add in the left sidebar.
- Paste the feed address into the search box.
- Open the matching RSS result, then select Subscribe.
- Use folders or tags to separate News, Parties, and Analysis.
Thunderbird
- Open File → New → Other Accounts.
- Choose RSS News & Blogs, enter a name, and select Continue.
- Select Finish, then right-click the new RSS account and choose Subscribe.
- Paste a feed URL into the subscription field and select Add.
Check a feed when it does not work
An RSS URL may open as raw XML, download as a file, or display an XML error in a browser. Those behaviours are not automatically failures. The important test is whether an RSS reader can parse the response and find recent items.

A 301 or 302 redirect is often fine because RSS readers usually follow redirects. A persistent 404, an HTML error page, or an empty feed indicates that the address should be removed or replaced.

RSS limitations to keep in mind
- Feeds can be delayed. A publisher may update its website first and publish the RSS item several minutes later.
- Feeds may contain summaries only. Select the item title to read the full article on the publisher’s site.
- Paywalls still apply. RSS can show a headline and excerpt but does not bypass a subscription requirement.
- Opinion is not reporting. The Spectator, party sites, campaign groups, and think tanks each have an editorial perspective.
- Duplicate stories are normal. Use reader filters, folders, or keyword rules if one event fills your feed.
- Old URLs can disappear. Publishers redesign websites, rename sections, or replace RSS with email and app notifications.

What is the best UK political RSS feed for beginners?
BBC News – Politics is a sensible starting point because it covers major UK political developments in a broad, accessible feed. Add the Institute for Government or Full Fact if you also want policy explanation or claim checking.
Are these feeds politically neutral?
No. The BBC and large news organisations aim for broad news coverage, while party sites, opinion publications, campaign groups, and think tanks have distinct viewpoints. Use more than one editorial source for contentious stories.

Can I read these feeds without installing an app?
Yes. Many modern browsers no longer provide a built-in RSS interface, but you can use a web-based reader such as Feedly or Inoreader. You can also open a feed URL directly to inspect its XML.
Why does an RSS URL show code instead of articles?
RSS is an XML data format, not a normal web page. Raw XML in a browser is expected. Add the URL to an RSS reader, which converts the XML into a readable list of headlines.
Does RSS bypass newspaper paywalls?
No. A feed may expose a headline, summary, or selected full text, but the publisher can still require a subscription to read the complete article.
How can I avoid receiving the same political story repeatedly?
Subscribe to one or two general-news feeds, then add specialist analysis rather than every national newspaper. Most RSS readers also let you create folders, mute keywords, or mark duplicate headlines as read.
