Error 0x80190190 means HTTP 400 Bad Request, while 0x801901F7 means HTTP 503 Service Unavailable. In practical terms, the first usually indicates that a request was rejected as invalid or malformed; the second indicates that a required service was unavailable, overloaded, down, or temporarily throttling requests.
These codes are commonly reported with Persona 5 Royal installed through Xbox Game Pass or Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and Windows 11. They can also appear during Microsoft Store or Xbox operations. Neither code proves that the Store cache or Windows system files are corrupted, so start by identifying whether the failure is game-specific, network-specific, or service-side.

What the two error codes mean
| Code | HTTP mapping | Likely failure class |
|---|---|---|
0x80190190 |
400 Bad Request | Invalid request, authentication or account state, configuration, proxy/TLS interference, or a client-side request problem |
0x801901F7 |
503 Service Unavailable | Temporary service outage, overload, upstream failure, or throttling |
The mapping comes from Microsoft’s Xbox/GDK error definitions. It is more useful than treating both messages as a generic “Microsoft Store corruption” error. The product shown on screen may be Store, Xbox, or a particular game, while the failed HTTP request may involve authentication, licensing, content delivery, or an online game feature.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFirst: check whether Xbox services are down
Before resetting Windows apps, check the official Xbox service-status page at xbox.com/status. Look specifically at Games and gaming, as well as any Store, account, or sign-in notices.
#1 Best Overall
If the status page reports a limited or major outage, local repairs will not resolve a server-side 503 response. Wait for the service to recover and try again. This is particularly important for 0x801901F7; the code itself is consistent with a temporarily unavailable service.
Persona 5 Royal: disable Thieves Network
If the popup appears inside Persona 5 Royal, older reports associate the recurring error with the game’s online Thieves Guild or Thieves Network feature. The following is a game-specific, user-reported workaround—not a universal fix for Xbox or Microsoft Store errors.
- Open Persona 5 Royal.
- Open the game’s Configuration or settings menu.
- Go to Network Functions.
- Disable Thieves Network or Thieves Guild, depending on the label shown in your version.
- Close the game and restart Windows.
- Launch the game again and test it with the network feature disabled.
This may prevent the online feature from connecting, so it is a workaround rather than a repair. If the same code occurs while downloading or installing the game, disabling this setting cannot help until the game can start; use the Store and network checks below instead.

Because 0x80190190 represents a bad request, check the conditions that can make a Store or Xbox request invalid before performing destructive repairs.
- Sign out and back in. Sign out of the Microsoft Store and Xbox app, close both applications, restart Windows, and sign in again with the account that owns the game or Game Pass entitlement.
- Try another network. Connect the PC temporarily to a phone hotspot or another Wi-Fi connection and repeat the same download, installation, or sign-in operation.
- Check the clock. Open Settings → Time & language → Date & time and enable Set time automatically. An incorrect clock can interfere with authenticated HTTPS requests.
- Review proxy settings. Go to Settings → Network & internet → Proxy. Under Manual proxy setup, make sure Use a proxy server is off unless your organization requires it.
- Consider managed-network interference. VPNs, TLS inspection, enterprise policies, restrictive firewalls, and security software can alter or reject Store and Xbox requests. If this is a work or school PC, the administrator may need to check the policy rather than removing it yourself.
If the operation succeeds over a hotspot, the result points to a difference in the original network, proxy, TLS inspection, or policy. It does not by itself prove that DNS is the cause.

Reset Microsoft Store safely
Resetting the Store is reasonable when Store operations fail locally, but it should be treated as a troubleshooting step—not as the meaning of either HRESULT.
Windows 11
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Store.
- Click the three-dot menu and select Advanced options.
- Click Reset, then confirm.
Windows 10
- Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features.
- Select Microsoft Store.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Click Reset.
You can also run the built-in Store cache reset:
wsreset
- Press Win+R.
- Enter
wsreset. - Press Enter.
A blank or black command window may appear briefly and close. Microsoft Store should then launch. If nothing changes, continue with the app-specific repair rather than repeatedly clearing the cache.
Repair or reset Persona 5 Royal
Use Repair before Reset. Repair is intended to fix the app while preserving its data; Reset removes app data and may require you to sign in again.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Persona 5 Royal.
- Click its three-dot menu and select Advanced options.
- Click Repair and test the game.
- If Repair fails, return to the same page and choose Reset.
Do not use Reset casually if you need local settings or other app data. The exact data affected can depend on how the game is packaged and where its saves are stored, so confirm that important saves are synchronized or backed up first.
Uninstall and reinstall the game
If the game installation itself is incomplete or damaged, reinstalling is more appropriate than repeatedly resetting the Store.

- New characters and confidants
- new story elements with a new semester at shujin Academy
- new story Arc, cutscenes and alternate endings
- new locations to explore

- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Open the three-dot menu beside Persona 5 Royal.
- Select Uninstall, then select Uninstall again to confirm.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Microsoft Store or the Xbox app and reinstall the game.
This will not correct a current Xbox service outage. If the reinstall fails with 0x801901F7 while Xbox reports an incident, wait and retry later.
Re-register Microsoft Store only if normal repair fails
A commonly published advanced step is to re-register Microsoft Store from an elevated PowerShell or Windows Terminal session. It is a third-party troubleshooting command, not a Microsoft-documented requirement for these two codes, and it should not be the first action.
Open Windows Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin), run the following command, and restart Windows:
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppxManifest.xml"}"
If the command reports deployment errors, record them rather than repeatedly rerunning it. App registration can be affected by Windows configuration, permissions, or an incomplete update.
Reset Windows Update components as a last resort
Some guides recommend resetting Windows Update working directories when Store or Xbox components appear stuck after an interrupted update. This is not a code-specific explanation for 0x80190190 or 0x801901F7, so reserve it for systems with broader Windows Update or component-installation problems.

Which fix should you use?
| What you observe | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Xbox status shows a Games and gaming outage | Wait for the service to recover, especially for 0x801901F7 |
| Error appears in Persona 5 Royal while using its online feature | Disable Thieves Network/Thieves Guild and restart Windows |
| Store or Xbox works over a hotspot but not your normal connection | Check VPN, proxy, TLS inspection, firewall, and network policy |
| Store fails locally but services are operational | Run wsreset, then reset Microsoft Store |
| Only Persona 5 Royal fails to launch or install | Use Repair, then Reset or reinstall if necessary |
| Several Windows components fail after an interrupted update | Consider the Windows Update reset commands as an advanced step |
FAQ
Are 0x80190190 and 0x801901F7 caused by Microsoft Store corruption?
Not necessarily. Microsoft’s Xbox/GDK mapping identifies 0x80190190 as HTTP 400 Bad Request and 0x801901F7 as HTTP 503 Service Unavailable. Store corruption is only one possible local explanation, not what the codes prove.
What does 0x80190190 mean?
It maps to HTTP 400 Bad Request. The server rejected the request as malformed or invalid. Account state, authentication, configuration, proxy or TLS interference, and other client-side conditions can contribute.
What does 0x801901F7 mean?
It maps to HTTP 503 Service Unavailable. The required service may be down, overloaded, temporarily unavailable, or affected by an upstream failure or throttling.

Does disabling Thieves Guild fix both errors everywhere?
No. Disabling Thieves Network or Thieves Guild is a reported workaround for Persona 5 Royal cases involving the game’s online feature. It is not a universal fix for unrelated Store, Xbox, or Windows Update failures.
Will wsreset delete my installed games?
The wsreset command clears the Microsoft Store cache and does not serve as an uninstall command for Persona 5 Royal. If you use the Store’s Reset option or the game’s Reset option, review the warning because app data may be removed.
Should I reset Windows Update immediately?
No. The Windows Update commands are an advanced, general repair step for update-component problems. They are not a Microsoft-confirmed explanation or required fix for these two error codes.
The Bottom Line
Begin with the Xbox service-status page and a hotspot test. If the error is inside Persona 5 Royal, disable Thieves Network/Thieves Guild and restart Windows. For local Microsoft Store failures, run wsreset and reset the Store; for a game-specific installation problem, use Repair before Reset or reinstall. Treat re-registration and Windows Update component resets as later, qualified troubleshooting steps—not automatic cures for HTTP 400 or HTTP 503 responses.
