Microsoft Edge extensions can add password management, ad blocking, translation, task capture, price tracking, screen recording, and writing tools without replacing the browser. The ranking below follows the feature-based list published by TechYorker. One important date note: that page was published on May 17, 2026, even though its title refers to 2025. Treat this as an editorial ranking of the named extensions, not as a contemporaneous 2025 benchmark or a Microsoft-certified list.
Availability, permissions, pricing, and publisher support can change. Before installing an extension, check its current Edge Add-ons listing, publisher name, update history, requested permissions, and privacy policy.
15 best Edge extensions ranked by features
The ranking emphasizes the main job each extension performs and the feature that makes it useful. “Best” depends on your workflow: an extension that needs access to every webpage may be appropriate for ad blocking but excessive for a simple shopping tool.

1. uBlock Origin — best for ad and tracker blocking
uBlock Origin is ranked first for its filter-list approach to blocking advertisements and trackers. It is useful when intrusive scripts slow down pages, clutter the screen, or interfere with reading.
#1 Best Overall
- USB-C 2-in-1 storage OTG: The Lexar JumpDrive Dual Drive D40E features USB Type-A and Type-C connectors in a slim, portable form factor for easy device compatibility
- Transfer speeds up to 100MB/s: Based on internal testing, performance may vary depending upon the host device, interface, and usage conditions. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes
- Plug and Play: Widely compatible with USB Type-C smartphones, tablets, laptops, Macs, and traditional Type-A devices, no software installation required. The 360° swivel design allows for easy switching between connectors without the hassle of losing a cap
- Durable & Compact: The Lexar D40E USB memory stick features a metal enclosure, withstands temperatures from 0° to 50° C (32°F to 122°F), and is lightweight at 26g with dimensions of 70.4 x 16.9 x 11.7mm
- Security & Warranty: Securely protects files using an advanced security software solution with 256-bit AES encryption. Backed by a Lexar 3-year limited warranty
Ad blockers can also cause failures. A site may refuse to load, hide content, or display an anti-ad-blocking message. If that happens, temporarily disable installed ad-blocking extensions and test the page again. Do not assume that a broken website is an Edge problem before testing this.
2. Bitwarden — best password manager
Bitwarden provides a browser-accessible vault and a password generator. Its value is greatest when you stop reusing passwords and let the extension generate and fill unique credentials.
Because a password manager handles highly sensitive information, install only the version published by the expected provider. Review its requested permissions and use a strong, unique master password. Enable additional account security where available.

3. Microsoft Editor — best for routine web writing
Microsoft Editor checks spelling and grammar while you write in supported websites. It suits email, online forms, messages, and documents where you want basic corrections without opening a separate editor.
Writing extensions may inspect text entered into webpages. Avoid enabling broad access casually on banking, medical, legal, or confidential business sites. Use Edge’s site-access controls to limit where the extension can run.
4. Dark Reader — best for custom dark themes
Dark Reader applies dark themes to websites and can make bright pages more comfortable at night. A site that already provides a carefully designed dark mode may look worse after an extension overrides its colors.
If pages display incorrectly, disable appearance-changing extensions one at a time and test the page after each change. Edge also includes built-in readability options: select the book icon in the address bar, or press F9, for Immersive Reader where supported. You can also use Settings and more (…) > Zoom.

5. OneNote Web Clipper — best for research capture
OneNote Web Clipper is designed for saving webpages and articles into OneNote. It is useful for collecting source material, instructions, receipts, or reference pages without manually copying each section.
Before saving sensitive pages, check what the clipper captures. A full-page clip can contain more information than the visible paragraph you intended to keep.

6. Grammarly — best for tone and rewrites
Grammarly goes beyond basic spelling checks with tone feedback and rewrite suggestions. It can be helpful when a message needs to sound more concise, formal, friendly, or direct.
It overlaps with Microsoft Editor, so most users do not need both active on every site. Running two writing assistants can produce competing underlines and duplicate suggestions. Keep one enabled broadly and restrict the other to selected sites if necessary.

7. Todoist — best for saving webpages as tasks
Todoist turns a webpage into a task, making it useful for follow-up work: replying to an article, checking a product later, completing an application, or revisiting documentation.
Use task metadata consistently. A saved URL without a due date, project, or short action can become another unprocessed bookmark. The extension is most useful when the captured page becomes a clearly defined next step.
8. Pocket — best for a cross-device reading list
Pocket saves articles and pages for later reading across supported devices. It is a better fit than a normal bookmark when the goal is to maintain a queue of reading rather than preserve a permanent reference.
Check whether the page is being saved successfully before closing the tab, particularly on sites that require a login or load content dynamically.

Honey can test promotional codes during checkout. It is convenient when a store supports multiple codes and you do not want to search manually for each one.
Coupon extensions need shopping-site access to detect eligible checkout pages. Review the extension’s permissions and remember that an apparent discount may have exclusions, minimum purchase requirements, shipping conditions, or expiration dates.
10. Rakuten — best for activating cash back
Rakuten is intended to make cash-back activation available from participating shopping sites. The extension can reduce the chance of forgetting to activate an offer before buying.

Loom provides a quick way to record a screen and share the resulting video. It can be more efficient than writing a long explanation of a software problem or demonstrating a workflow through screenshots.
Screen-recording extensions may request permission to view screen content, camera, microphone, or browser tabs. Start and stop recordings deliberately, and check the audience or sharing setting before sending a link.
12. Immersive Translate — best for bilingual webpages
Immersive Translate presents translated webpage content alongside the original, which is useful when you need to compare wording or navigate a foreign-language site.
Machine translation can misinterpret technical, legal, medical, and contractual language. Use the original text for decisions where precision matters.
13. SponsorBlock — best for skipping marked YouTube sponsorships
SponsorBlock skips community-marked sponsored segments in YouTube videos. It can make long videos easier to watch when the sponsorship is separate from the main content.
Because segment markings are community-submitted, coverage and accuracy can vary. A segment may be missed, incorrectly marked, or include content you would prefer to hear.
14. Keepa — best for Amazon price history
Keepa adds price-history charts and alerts for Amazon products. This helps distinguish a genuine price reduction from a temporary change in the displayed price.
Compare the correct product variant and seller. Size, color, condition, marketplace, shipping, and membership pricing can all affect whether a historical price is a useful comparison.

- If the icon is not visible, select Settings and more (…) > Extensions.
- Select Get Extensions for Microsoft Edge.
- Search for the extension and select Get.
- Select Add extension.
- Edge displays a confirmation that the extension was added.
You can also install extensions directly from the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store. Do not install a lookalike extension from an unverified publisher simply because the name and icon appear familiar.

After installation, select Extensions > Manage Extensions. Microsoft documentation also shows the singular label Manage extension in some Edge support instructions.
To restrict a specific extension:
- Open Extensions > Manage Extensions.
- Select Details under the extension.
- Under Site access, choose On specific sites and enter the permitted URLs.
- Choose On click if the extension should work only when you activate it.
From the extension menu, select More actions (…) beside the extension > This can read and change site data. Depending on the Edge version, the choices can include When you click the extension, On [current site], and On all sites.
The Details page can also expose Automatically allow access on the following sites, Allow in InPrivate, and Allow access to file URLs. Turn on InPrivate or file-URL access only when you understand why the extension needs it.
How to disable, update, or remove an extension
Disable or enable
- Select Extensions.
- Select Manage Extensions.
- Use the toggle beside the extension.
Remove
- Select Extensions.
- Select More actions (…) beside the extension.

What “managed by your organization” means
On a work or school computer, administrators can force-install, block, allowlist, or restrict extensions by permission and website. To inspect the local extension and policy state, enter edge://extensions and edge://policy in the address bar. A briefcase icon beside an extension’s enable/disable control indicates that it is managed by your organization.
Relevant policy names include ExtensionSettings and ExtensionInstallForcelist. Microsoft says an apparently managed extension on an unmanaged personal computer can sometimes indicate malware. Run a full Microsoft Defender or reputable antivirus scan and report the issue through Settings and more (…) > Help and Feedback > Send feedback > Send.
Microsoft documents these commands for deleting Edge policy keys. Use an elevated PowerShell or Command Prompt window only after identifying the cause and backing up important data:

FAQ
Are all 15 extensions currently available in the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store?
The supplied sources do not verify current store availability for every extension. Search the live Edge Add-ons store and confirm the publisher before installing.
Can Chrome extensions be installed in Microsoft Edge?
Edge can install many Chrome Web Store extensions. The required permission setting, label, and compatibility should be checked in the current version of Edge because they can change.
How do I limit an extension to one website?
Open Extensions > Manage Extensions > Details. Under Site access, select On specific sites and enter the permitted URL. You can also use the extension menu’s This can read and change site data control.
Why did Edge disable my extension?
Edge may disable an extension that attempts to change important browser settings, such as the search engine, New Tab page, or site preferences, without permission. Open Settings and more (…) > Extensions > Manage extension and check its toggle.
Which Edge extension is best for writing?
Microsoft Editor is suited to spelling and grammar assistance, while Grammarly adds tone and rewrite suggestions. They overlap, so running both broadly may create duplicate or conflicting suggestions.
What should I do if an extension says it is managed by my organization?
On a managed work or school device, contact the administrator. On a personal computer, inspect edge://extensions and edge://policy, then run a full Microsoft Defender or reputable antivirus scan if the extension is unexpected.
The Bottom Line
There is no universally best Edge extension. uBlock Origin and Bitwarden address two broadly useful needs, while the remaining choices are workflow-specific: writing, reading, shopping, recording, translation, or site research. Install from a verified store listing, inspect permissions, restrict site access where practical, and disable extensions one at a time when a page or browser setting starts behaving unexpectedly.
